Dear Readers,

If you see the contents of my patreon page this morning, you will notice there is no content including the Weaver Option anymore. This is a deliberate policy on my part. While I was at first believing the new policies of Games Workshop didn’t concern my work, recent conversations on several boards have made me believe otherwise.

Yes, the Weaver Option is a crossover and about Taylor and her merry (or not so merry in case of Leet) band of parahumans, but no one but a fool wouldn’t pretend it isn’t a story in the w40k galaxy. And changing all the names and the locations until they do not include anything belonging to Games Workshop would be akin to rewrite an entire story altogether...which I don’t have the motivation to do, and I don’t think many readers would enjoy very much.

I am only a single person, and while I believe being on the other side of the Channel would protect me somewhat (yay for French-English rivalry!) several debates with writers more aware of libel laws than I am made sure I understood that the Patreon website would not protect me from the eventual fall-out, and I am not willing to endure a DMCA, have my patreon page blocked, and the Weaver Option in limbo.

First because I have not the money to engage in a judicial battle against Games Workshop, a battle I would almost certain lose, by attrition if anything, and besides as much as it pains me to acknowledge, it is their universe. How long they will have supporters when sites like lexicanum and the warhammer wiki are unable to fulfil their guidelines is their problem, but for now I have no choice but to comply officially with their guidelines. And this brings us to the second reason.

I love the Weaver Option, and I enjoy very much writing it and giving a ray of hope in these complicated years. I have grown to really love my story, and so much I don’t want to risk it or to see it banned or whatever fate Games Workshop has in mind for those who challenge their injunctions.

So effective this morning, I removed the Weaver Option contents this website contained.

It is not the end of this story. I firmly intend to continue the writing of the current Weaver Option chapter and more besides (though the last days have played havoc in my brain, on my sleep, and on my nerves, as I’m sure you will understand).

The Weaver Option will continue. But to comply with the regulations and survive, it can’t continue on patreon like the current schedule planned for. I don’t like it, but like many things in life, current events do not leave much any leeway. Aside from the stress it generates, the Weaver Option is at the top of the list on fanfiction-stories involving the w40k universe (top 10 for sure, which I thank you for) and if the gaze of the malevolent Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors hasn’t stared that way, it will only be a question of days/months before it does.

I prefer to abandon the potential infringement possibilities before they catch up with me and destroy everything I’ve worked on these last few years. I will modify the current chapters (or try to) so that the patreon mention is removed in the author’s notes, and the images using licensed information will be either modified or removed.

Now for the future...I am going to find new solutions for patreon and to reward my faithful readers to be rewarded for their support worthy of the Star of Terra. It is going to take a few days to find new solutions and arrange it however, since I am not neither a God-Emperor nor a Seer, and I didn’t see this issue coming. Thus I beg you to give me a few more days before I send a new series of messages to indicate how the fanfic stories and a certain no-longer-authorised story on patreon will continue.

I repeat, the Weaver Option will continue. If the planet broke before the Guard did, I can certainly continue the writing and the good fight...it will just have to change to adapt the conditions.

Thanks for your understanding and Ave Imperator!

Makes sense. Protect yourself. I'm just glad that the story isn't going away, which was the major concern when I first saw this post. Let us know if you switch to subscribestar or something like that and I'm pretty sure most of us will migrate pretty quickly. Stay safe, Brother.

I Support you whatever your decision is. I've only ever read Weaver Option and never your other stories, so I suppose now is the time to start.

Mordart

Fanfiction should fall under the parody clause. I think on a month when this panic settles down weaver option will be back on here. That or GW will begin imploding like blizzard entertainment

Antony444

Thanks. Though as someone reminded me correctly, End of Times is also a problem. It is ASOIAF world, but I have poured too many warhammer content (fantasy, not w40k) in it.

Antony444

Unfortunately, it does not...for now. So I prefer to be careful. As for GW...well, I'm sure as hell not going to buy new codexes any time soon, believe me.

Well since Lord Antony has been declared heratic and traitor to Games Workshop and all loyal to him will follow even into the eye of terror, we should get a proper Traitor Warband name. Too bad the 'Word Bearers' is already taken.

Confused

Well fuck(excuse my language) and while I'm not surprised by this move given what's happening across the whole 40k/Fantasy fandom(just look at TTS) it doesn't mean I'm not upset over this and the pure idiocy of GW(I could rant but this isn't the place for that). But it does ease my worry knowing that you'll continue this work so I hope all will be well as you figure out your next step and I hope you know I at least will still be here eagerly awaiting your next chapter!

Antony444

Yeah, we have standards. Since I am a writer, the Scribes of Treachery has some appeal...

Albino87

It is bad that it is coming to this. I have been following Weavers Option from when it only did have a couple of chapter and I remember how your number that follow you here exploded after I did mention the Weaver Option on Spacebattle in a crossover story of Worm and Harry Potter ( A Wand for Skitter). We can only hope that this will blow over soon.

Anonymous

Antony, I love all your stories. Whatever solution you find I will follow you there. GW really shot their feet off with their latest changes.

ZeroNu

Thanks for the hard work on your part Antony I can only hope GW will pull their head out of their backside but how knows how long that will take.

I always appreciated how well you conveyed the grand scale of warhammer in your writings, better than GW in my opinion. The epic logistics, storytelling and political drama is wonderful and a treat to follow. I can’t imagine how you keep track of so many moving parts across so many stories but you are a truly gifted writer. I tried a few W40k novels after binging Weaver option and they just didn’t compare. Hope you are well, we are all in your corner.

Antony444

Thanks, your compliments warm my heart totally not made of artificial components!

Silver Wolf

Well that sucks at the very least you haven’t been forced to stop due to the changes GW have made like TTS.

Antony444

I prefer to take steps before the axe strikes...and I am lucky in that regards that yes, fanfiction remains authorised unlike the video-animations (which are GW's future cash-cows and thus are forbidden).

I’ve seen other patreons host material on mega or google docs that can’t be hosted on patreon directly. That might be an option.

Richard Paull

GW really is ruining everyting recently. First TTS now this? I wasn't a big fan of Cadia Falling either :P

ranmalav

I will support you anyway. Please countinue to deliver this blessed content, i am able to bleed some green for this pleasure :)

I'll continue my support. I'm a huge fan of Weaver Option and The Odds Were Never In My Favor. Just for clarification will you be removing Weaver Option from FF and AltHistory?

Antony444

No, absolutely not! I thought I made that clear. I will also try to reveal the unbetaed chapters as per the previous schedule, though it is going to take a bit of time to work up a new one.

Forgottenone

Sad to hear and let's be honest GW should have tried to hire you.. then somehow sell your story.

ScreamingMidgit

"All the rage I have ever felt has risen from my flesh like a steam of disbelief." I'm still going to support you though.

Antony444

Ha! Ha! Ha! Can't say you would have been wrong...though they have the Black Library already for authors, so it isn't like that they don't have plenty of authors ready to accomplish the will of the Ordo Hereticus. It's more on the animation-video thing they're really going all out to end the market. Warhammer+ (their anime channel) is coming online soon, and one must crush the heretics before that happens...

Hey man! I love your Weaver Option and I’m extremely sad that GW it’s taking this route just to promote W+. I’ll still support your Patreon fully. This fic and The Odds have brought me hours of joy. You’re a terrific writer! I’m just wondering it’s the only thing that going to change the fact that we won’t get snippets before you put the full chapter to ff.net? And have you thought about copying your stories to Ao3? If GW goes crazy and starts taking fanworks down anything in Ao3 it’s going to be protected by their lawyers at no cost to you. I don’t know if you knew that already but I have seen so many works disappear from many websites that are protected on Ao3. Best of luck in this trying times!

Antony444

Thanks for the support! It is possible I will update everything to a03 in the future, yes. But for some reason I never seem to find the time...except for the late stories I've begun this year.

s22132

No worries; do what you have to do in order to keep your work safe. :)

Regan

I love the weaver option so much. I will continue to support you here as long as the weaver option continues mate

Honestly? You could start a discord! (If, of course you have the time/motivation/want to do so!) You could have different roles based on whether they're a sub or not, and ping people who have it where they want to be pinged for certain stories to go to a google doc or something. Either way, no matter your decision, I'll support you! *insert shut up and take my money meme here*

Hi Anthony, this isn't so bad. As long as you establish a way to inform subscribers of new published content, the method to achieve that is immaterial.
