Announcement - Bad News/Good News (Patreon)
Content
Dear Readers,
If you see the contents of my patreon page this morning, you will notice there is no content including the Weaver Option anymore. This is a deliberate policy on my part. While I was at first believing the new policies of Games Workshop didn’t concern my work, recent conversations on several boards have made me believe otherwise.
Yes, the Weaver Option is a crossover and about Taylor and her merry (or not so merry in case of Leet) band of parahumans, but no one but a fool wouldn’t pretend it isn’t a story in the w40k galaxy. And changing all the names and the locations until they do not include anything belonging to Games Workshop would be akin to rewrite an entire story altogether...which I don’t have the motivation to do, and I don’t think many readers would enjoy very much.
I am only a single person, and while I believe being on the other side of the Channel would protect me somewhat (yay for French-English rivalry!) several debates with writers more aware of libel laws than I am made sure I understood that the Patreon website would not protect me from the eventual fall-out, and I am not willing to endure a DMCA, have my patreon page blocked, and the Weaver Option in limbo.
First because I have not the money to engage in a judicial battle against Games Workshop, a battle I would almost certain lose, by attrition if anything, and besides as much as it pains me to acknowledge, it is their universe. How long they will have supporters when sites like lexicanum and the warhammer wiki are unable to fulfil their guidelines is their problem, but for now I have no choice but to comply officially with their guidelines. And this brings us to the second reason.
I love the Weaver Option, and I enjoy very much writing it and giving a ray of hope in these complicated years. I have grown to really love my story, and so much I don’t want to risk it or to see it banned or whatever fate Games Workshop has in mind for those who challenge their injunctions.
So effective this morning, I removed the Weaver Option contents this website contained.
It is not the end of this story. I firmly intend to continue the writing of the current Weaver Option chapter and more besides (though the last days have played havoc in my brain, on my sleep, and on my nerves, as I’m sure you will understand).
The Weaver Option will continue. But to comply with the regulations and survive, it can’t continue on patreon like the current schedule planned for. I don’t like it, but like many things in life, current events do not leave much any leeway. Aside from the stress it generates, the Weaver Option is at the top of the list on fanfiction-stories involving the w40k universe (top 10 for sure, which I thank you for) and if the gaze of the malevolent Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors hasn’t stared that way, it will only be a question of days/months before it does.
I prefer to abandon the potential infringement possibilities before they catch up with me and destroy everything I’ve worked on these last few years. I will modify the current chapters (or try to) so that the patreon mention is removed in the author’s notes, and the images using licensed information will be either modified or removed.
Now for the future...I am going to find new solutions for patreon and to reward my faithful readers to be rewarded for their support worthy of the Star of Terra. It is going to take a few days to find new solutions and arrange it however, since I am not neither a God-Emperor nor a Seer, and I didn’t see this issue coming. Thus I beg you to give me a few more days before I send a new series of messages to indicate how the fanfic stories and a certain no-longer-authorised story on patreon will continue.
I repeat, the Weaver Option will continue. If the planet broke before the Guard did, I can certainly continue the writing and the good fight...it will just have to change to adapt the conditions.
Thanks for your understanding and Ave Imperator!
