Mordart

Nice treat for this insomniac. Thank You.

This was fantastic

it's amazing

Boris Michenski

Well... when you think the limits of epic awesomness/madness is reached... you just realise, that the limit was just a door to be opened. I've one questionwhich truly burns me: as Taylor is about to fight the Queen of Blade... does it means she will truly become Eldar Empress?! Some heads will just explode from it. (By the way poor Taylor, she really has no time to properly sleep). So Dorn came and is gone, looking for his brother. Good luck man, come back with him. And just what is in the gift, that Taylor send to Word Bearers? Nano Swarm or something like that?

Anonymous

Will be interesting to see how the duel turns out. Lelith has been hyped up so much that I don't really see a way this turns out well for Taylor, especially since the next chapter is apparently named after her. Fulgrim died a bit too easy imo, but I can understand why he would overextend like that, not like anybody was expecting a Gloriana. Interesting to see Gotrek, wonder how he will feature in the story. Didn't know 40k had slayers, but I guess squats aren't a very developed part of the lore and it isn't a stretch that there would be some of those. Bit disappointed that Dorn just left like that, though I can understand it. Him making Taylor the apparent leader of all the Imperial Fist successor chapters sounds like something that will give the High Lord conniptions if she survives the coming battle, though I guess her sainthood might resurrect her. Lastly making a handy dandy shortcut between Nocturne and Terra was cool, I believe Nocturne is pretty close to Nyx so it might come in handy if a certain High Lord gets uppity sometime in the future.

Antony444

Taylor can indeed be 'Aeldari Empress'...as long as she doesn't get horribly murdered during the duel. No one in the Aeldari Empire was willing to say winning against the Queen of Blades was a requirement. In fact, several Emperors and Empresses (including the last crowned heads before the Fall) avoided doing it entirely and decided to support other traditions. They knew fully well Aenaria Eldanesh would have murdered them in less than ten seconds. The gift sent to the Word Bearers is going to make the list of comments on every website explode, I can guarantee it. And no, it's not a nanomachine swarm.

Antony444

Well, when an Eldar believes a duel between she and the Emperor of Mankind would be the greatest thing in the last million years, it's fair to say your chances to win this one are...not good. Keep in mind where Fulgrim is concerned that he was alone, fighting a part of the swarm, Dorn, several Space Marines and a good part of an army...alone. As for the Primarch, well he considers rightly the Khan passes above everything else, and it's not exactly like the Imperium is in danger of death right now. And yes, the Nocturne liaison exists...though it is going to remain a big secret for the time being.

Anonymous

The hype is real. Holy shit is it real.

Anonymous

how long until next chapter ?

Antony444

Difficult to say. I will try to begin the writing this month, but I intend at least to write a Odds chapter and one another story-update before that.

Anonymous

So... if the Queen of Blades considered the Emperor to have "potential" then how the bloody ******* **** can Taylor even survive against her?! By the God Emperor I can't wait for next chapter! Escalation is just being redefined with every chapter you write!

frank schellingerhout

nice chapter thx for writing it love the view of the state of the legions will be interesting to see how taylor will get out of the duel

Anonymous

I can't wait for when their all back at pavia and everybody has had a meal and a nap and the command staff just sits down and looks at each other and someone just goes "well, that fucking sucked"

Antony444

The Emperor has psychic powers, but no swarm. Taylor is forced to 'borrow' to the Emperor for the former, but she definitely has the latter. Will it be enough? Answer in the next episode...and thanks!

Antony444

"In fact, boss, now that we think about it, the Death Star was a very reasonable battle."

Anonymous

One think I noticed is the Raven Guard legionaries, if they managed to save even a small amount of Raven Guard geneseed and they can get it to their brothers in the current time it will be a great boon for them to have geenseed from before Corax tried experimenting with their. Even a small number of pure Raven Guard geenseed would be welcome in their situation

Anonymous

We’re there any Iron Hands with the István survivors? They and their successors wold be overjoyed to witness Fake-Fulgrim to be repeatedly stabbed in the face with a null blade. Also I wonder how much that poison analysis STC will speed up Calw‘s efforts to find a cure for Papa Smurf. And finally does Taylor now have a Dawi Slayer in her command and does that mean that in this story Warhammer Fanstasy is part of the 40k universe?

Anonymous

The part I'm really eager to see is the political consequences and the rest of the galaxy's reactions after the battle. Also, I notice that despite the battle going for 57 hours at this point, and Commorragh suffering a full-scale daemon invasion, about half the Asuryani and a little over two thirds of the Drukhari are still alive...

Antony444

Yeah. Though to be honest, it will be small (the gene-seed inside the Marines and the stocks they managed to transport away). The Flamewrought is a Salamander flagship, and there wasn't any time to transfer anything from the doomed Nineteenth Legion ships.

Antony444

Oh it's going to be explosive, believe me. As for the Asuryani and the Drukhari, the former have not all reached Commorragh and their fleets are blowked outside the Port, while the others have other realms out of Commorragh...and of course that they are 'alive' does not mean they are out of danger.

Confused

I NEED MORE! But seriously this is amazing please keep up the wondrous work Antony it always makes my day when I see a update especially during these bleak times!

Anonymous

Well done Antony! A very enjoying read, as always. Nice to see Rogal in relatively good shape, and much more humble than I thought he'd be. It also gives me hope that Taylor and the rest of the surviving army group will return home with TWO Primarchs! Perhaps that's not exactly the plan, but it'd seem like a giant waste to have Rogal show up briefly for two chapters, only to disappear again. Besides, if they could store ONE primarch in Uldanesh Prison for nigh on four-thousand years, they can certainly hold two! I eagerly await the next exciting chapter! Stay safe, and I hope you've got enough toilet paper XD

Dale

*Looks at email, looks at time which tells me need sleep for work, shrugs and begins reading* I can sleep when I'm dead I guess. I'm happy some of the Dark Eldar get the chance to realize how fucked they are. The ex-slave had the right Idea, and I enjoy someone having the sense to realize there are Legends walking, and they're WAY too weak to survive. The Fulgrim fight wasn't exactly easy when you think about it, not to mention the fact his pain didn't end when Weaver banished him. I mean I'm pretty sure Ka'Banda was happy to see the marks, as it shows that he's got worthy Prey. I'm equally sure he's also enraged at Fulgrim's evidence he DARED try to kill steal. He's going to enjoy carving more messages into his hide, something along the lines, "Thou Shalt Not Killsteal My Prey" a few billion times. I liked the scene with the Templars, I'm unsure Weaver will thank their Father for dropping his kids on her like this, but.... Trayzn I feel has earned some credit that will only be truly recognized when Weaver and the QoB truly clash. I'm fairly certain that her entrance has already given them a hint to stay out of the way of this fight; it's not every day even an Eldar gets the drop on a shit-ton of Space Marines like that. I'm equally certain the next chapter will be truly insane, and I'm going to add my hope for the next chapter being started ASAP. Feel free to write other stories, my friend, but I would be most annoyed if you don't eventually come back after that CLIFFHANGER......

Anonymous

I lack the words to describe how epic this character is. Like seriously words fail me.

Antony444

Don't worry, everything has been anticipated, Nurgle can't touch me...I hope. The Emperor protects! As for Rogal, no it won't be the last you will see of him, though obviously he's not going to return to Terra for the short term.

Antony444

Thanks a lot for the comment, and don't worry I will try to make the separation between the two chapters not too great...

Anonymous

Thank you very much for this story once again, Antony444. For me it was an early birthday present and just a glorious start into the weekend. Praise the Emperor and His blessed Saint! I take that the Dawnbreaker Guard grows with the addition of the Imperial Fists and their successors and a few Salamanders. This new Imperial Fists Chapter will have just about the most awesome founding story: born from the blood of their Gene-Sire in the ashes of Commorragh to protect and serve Saint Weaver! The way this is escalating, when the remnants of the Scouring of Commorragh leave the Eversprings-Gate, they will be shells of regiments which have fought far past the point of exhaustion and effectiveness, the Fleet will be battered almost-Hulks venting atmosphere and debris. This great victory requires great sacrifices. With all the technology recovered, Taylor is ideally posed to be the arbitrator and ultimate authority in all the disputes on who gets what out of that colossal pile of loot. I think some Archmagi will emulate the Chosen of the Omnissiah: render unto Mars the original STC and then bargain with twelve Copies for even more Technology and favors… I can already think of an additional headache: where do you bury/entomb the blessed Theodora Gaius? Nyx? Ultramar? The Phalanx? Claire 47? The arguments will start as soon the shooting stops. :-)

Michael Zalesny

Okay okay okay, so things that Weaver has "accidently" earned/been given: the Ultima honorifica, the star of terra, a sword of vaul, the basilieaship of Nyx, more "minor" military awards than you could pin on an entire division, THE FUCKING AELDARI THRONE, sainthood, more STC in her as yet short career than entire Forgeworlds in their entire history, amongst MANY MORE THINGS...seriously, the sheer amount of shenanigans the fact she is now technically, and perhaps officially soonish, the empress of the aeldari empire is MINDBOGGLING. If the other craftworlds hear about this development, would it be fair to say Beil-tan is in open rebelion against the Empress, who by will potentially be backed by the word of the fucking Queen of Blades herself. Holy fucking shit...

Michael Zalesny

Its already clear what banner is gonna fly before the the Eternity Gate...the 24th will live forever in Death and Martyrdom

Guilherme Bezerra

After this roller coaster of an incredible update a few thoughts stick out in no particular order: • Dammit. Cliffs are not okay. As another fanfic author justly said Cliffs are evil. F**k cliffs. F**k all cliffs. Forever. • We are getting Gotrek’s sucessor and W40K styled dawi? We need more! • How big is the dawnguard going to end up ? At this rate they gonna end up with a company sized bodyguard. • Nyx sector is going to end up with so many Space Marine Chapters… • Poor false primarch. It just can’t catch a break. Not even considered for Endbringer material and utterly wrecked twice. • Loved how Dorn was portrayed. And his exasperation with the Templars is awesome. • Actual Chaos Eldar! We need more! Is Malekith going to show up ? • Who do you have in mind for the other 5 Endbringers ? Do you already have candidates ?

philip

Wonder if... lelith got her mother's crown back from trazyn??? XD

Michael Zalesny

Also, now that i think on it, is malys in the running now for possible herald of Yanead? If shes possibly going to take refuge amongst craftworld eldar?

Michael Zalesny

The Black Templar are going to CHAIN themselves to weaver at this point...With actual chains.

Confused

Just finished reading this and shit the duel with the queen of blades is going to be absolutely insane and Taylor will barely survive it.

Antony444

Yes, the pile of loot is...huge. Let's leave it at that. As for the title of Aeldari Empress, it is of course completely empty and neither Taylor nor Lelith are taking it very seriously for very different reasons. Of course, Biel-Tan and some Chaos Eldar may be of a different opinion...

Antony444

Possibly, yes. Though for the moment, there's no ritual and no preparation done, and even Eldrad has not seriously explored the idea, so it's the shadow of a minor project.

MehOhWell

I'd say that escalated quickly, but that feels like a criminal understatement. Taylor is probably gonna get her shit kicked but ultimately be spared so she can grow into her own and actually become a worthy opponent. Because lets face it, if someone could survive the War in Heaven, some random human empowered by the Emperor isn't going to last long against them. Also we have space Gotrek, but who is space Felix? Because we really need a space Felix to accidentally end up romancing Taylor. The shenanigans would be glorious.

Anonymous

Oskar von Reuenthal ? love these references and all the claymore references with the templar and probably the future sororitas.

Forgottenone

Love you dragged the Squats back from the warp. The writers of the squats pissed off the owners of 40k so they just stop writing them. Then they feed them to the swarm to wipe them out. If I remember right squats left IoM with Vandire mess.... Well hope Weaver like artillery cause squats got that a plenty..... I could go on and on about how amazing that chapter was, so I will just say my fav part “Lady Weaver! Why are you not retreating to the Port of Lost Souls? Have you not received my message?” Poor Trazyn heroic work was for nothing! Your evil plans are wonderful!!!

Trevayne

Great update with lots to think about. While I understand that neither Taylor nor the Queen of Blades think Taylor's status as the Empress is anything more than an empty title, is it really? Granted, Taylor is not going to get the allegiance of any Craftworld or any other Aeldari anytime soon, but I wonder if there are any other ancient relics left over from the Empire that only answer to the True Aeldari Empress and/or the Queen of Blades. If so, that might be another reason why Aenaria decides to not kill Taylor, especially if there are any things that need both of them.

Red Bard

wow this entire chapter was filled with awesome battles and interesting characters, but something that stood out to me was vect, that guy might be a monster but he has the biggest balls I've ever seen, also i was just laughing my ass off when trazyn ran away. Weaver continues to kick ass, let's hope she fares well against the Queen of Blades

Anonymous

This chapter was awesome and I loved nearly everything about it! The only thing that bothered me is that Dorn's responsibility and duty to the Imperium should override the search for Khan. Even if he couldn't be a politician and lead he would check on the state of the Imperium, his father's dream, before going back for Khan. (Possibly when better recuperated and rearmed) But I understand that would have profound implications on the story. Other than that, I loved seeing the comeuppance Vect is getting for his lust for power and The Queen of Blades showing up. It's nice to see the weakening of Chaos on multiple fronts, but with few mentions of Nurgle, will that aspect of Chaos cause trouble next? This cliffhanger is evil and I would sell my soul to Chaos for the next chapter.

Dale

Well, when you consider the fact the QoB can create SORCERY EFFECTS by swinging her damn sword, I can see Trayzn knowing when to 'beat feet', or in this case teleport like a madman, and STILL not 'run' fast enough to avoid her chasing him. I do believe part of his retreat towards Weaver was an attempt to divert the QoB from shredding him by offering a suitable 'sacrifice'. It's succeeded in large part due to the Queen finding a new, interesting mouse to play with.

Anonymous

Thanks for the chapter Antony, and now time to wait for the next chapter in agony.

Kevin Choi

I hope Taylor gets handed a defeat.... You can sort of believe that Taylor beats the Primarch with all the help she gets from Dorn, her insects and her Astartes outnumbering him.... Here, the Queen of Blades has lived a long time and isn't insane.... Honestly, I think the Queen of Blades is only dueling Taylor to get back at how stupid the Aeldari are.... So why not give Taylor her 'Duel' to be Empress. Why not? How funny would that be?

Anonymous

Honestly, at this point if you told me that Lelith's work out regime is one hundred push-up, sit-up, squat and a 10 km run EVERY DAYS, I wouldn't be surprised. Shit, forget Queen of Blades, Lelith's title is henceforth the One Slash Woman! XD

Anonymous

This works well. I usually try not to re-read chapters but when I can read this now and then a beta-ed version in a couple weeks, it works. Then the next chapter will come out on here a couple weeks after that... it keeps the withdrawal symptoms under wraps. Thanks for the good read.

Forgottenone

I think the Aeldari Empress title and rights comes from Vaul or the old ones. So the Queen of Blades will test the Queen of the Swarm. Now if she passes the test and become Empress that just a add bonus right =)

Antony444

I have a few candidates for the position of space Felix. Some of them have been shown in 8-2. But most would be too scared to get close to taylor, never mind try a romance...

Antony444

There are not many relics left (most were utterly wiped out during the Fall of course) but what a suspicious mind you have...

Antony444

The problem is that it's not really going possible to do it like that. First, as Taylor said, the entrance into Commorragh has a very limited date of usability (this count isn't just for show). So Dorn would have to use another unguarded path into the Webway. And the Praetorian knows his brother must be in some sort of danger, otherwise the Khan would have already rushed out of one Gate to participate in the current slaughter. As for the other Chaos Powers...yes, Nurgle is going to be involved.

Antony444

I caught that reference. But you forgot 'killing ten opponents in duel before breakfast' and 'light sparring session where everyone arounds her die without seeing her draw her knives'.

Boris Michenski

By the way, the (semi?)Sentient Diamond that Taylor took from Core gate, is it still functional? Not in a way, "let's change whole Webway so that Orks/Necrons have free acces to Craftworlds" but can it answer questions? Preferably without risking loyal Psykers lifes? I can also imagine it have mega-key properties: so Taylor with her troopes march directly into Biel-Tan. "HOW!?!" shoutes all Eldars. "As a rigthfull Empress of Aeldari I ordered Webwey to lead my forces directly to this vile den of rebels!" Otherwise, true I can see in order to get some juicy Eldar Relic Queens of the Swarm and Blades would join together... (StarCraft music)

Lelith Hesperax is only in the thirteenth position. I wonder who are the other twelve?

philip

Golden bacta is something new here... how is it different from blue bacta??

Anonymous

Placement on the "Most wanted " list is not only your individual destructiveness but also your danger you represent to the IoM at large, that is why a certain top-not CSM is number 1, i have no idea what the reward is on him, but it is likely to be counted in Legions of titans worth just to start with.

Anonymous

Golden bacta is not new, it is the original bacta, but it is not the same anymore, it is changing into something that Weaver can use, as it is it would outright kill her if she used it.

Antony444

The golden bacta is the original and can only be used by the ants and Taylor herself. Blue and Red are diluted versions of the stuff, respectively the one for baseline humans and the other for Astartes. Provided you aren't a psyker.

Antony444

Absolutely. Many on the top 10 can't fight Lelith Hesperax with their entire bodyguards corps, never mind one on one. But the Queen of Blades in her current persona is only after the worthiest duels in the galaxy and don't bother sacking hundreds of worlds or erecting altars to monstrous abominations. And yet despite these issues, she got on the top 20 without problem...

Antony444

Abaddon is number one, that's not a surprise I think. I will unveil the others in due time.

Anonymous

Now that I think about it, if weaver severed fake-Fulgrim’s control of the emperor’s children, does that mean it will be safe to use the 10,000 gene seeds that she acquired from Tarzan?

Kioras

A few interesting things. Dorn met Taylor for an hour total and under his Primarchs senses and mind he decided that she was one to finish this Crusade for his father and trusted enough to raise a chapter of his legion locally. Also not-Fulfrim got the full force of her work with the Shard. She not only cut him enough so that he is unable to call himself Fulgrim but she also severed all the attachments to geneseed. So unless Fulgrim himself comes awake and back, which will be hard as he will not have a body after the pink abomination pops. The lore with Fulgrim is a bit of a mess however. Did he surrender his soul before or after killing his brother. Taylor is also about to get vetted by the Queen of Blades and will likely only pass due to pure determination and willingness to get up when almost no one else could or would be able to. Also Dorn leaving, while a let down he also knows there is a good chance his brother who is skilled in Administation getting out of his stasis pod thanks to the efforts of Theodora Gaius. When her tomb is built on Claire 47 it will no doubt have her armor on display along with her broken swords. That is the type of thing that often gets used by new saints at some point. Finally those two rogue traders are likely going to find themselves under the clutches of the Nyx Inquisition when they return to Imperial space. Consorting with Pirates like that is a serious problem

Anonymous

Lelith Hexperax is not so much a Hero killer (like Behemoth, which she by the way would have seen as an interesting very hard to kill opponent dangerous for her too) she is more a Character killer, good or bad it dosn't matter. if you are strong and/or Interesting you are a possible target. As demonstrated in the story so far, Lelith IS and Army killer when she gets serious, only a few of the Primarchs in the materium would be able to hold their ground against her when they where at the top of their game (Magnus and Sanguinus mostly) mostly because their sheer psychic powers. As for the sheer number of Astartes that Weaver, The living Saint, the mother to us all, the Emperors true daughter, she who lights up the shadows, Mistress of the Swarm, protector of those who cannot speak for themselves, Revenant of the Emperor, Angel of death to Xenos, The Swarm Bringa', The Omnissiahs living Grace, Protector of the Faith, The bringer of Justice,

Antony444

True, very true. Khorne does not care where the blood comes from, and Lelith does not care where her opponents come from. She only wants enemies of the not boring variety.

Anonymous

When Taylor stats playing is the song something like toccata and fugue in d minor?

Antony444

I'm afraid I don't know the song, so I can just answer with a maybe...In movie themes, I thought about several themes from Lord of the Rings and Avengers for Taylor. In classic music, ride of the valkyries. And of course Lelith Hesperax would definitely get the Sephiroth theme from FF VII.

John W

What was the green sword that made the unhealable would? Something that unique in the hands of an apprentice assassin is very unusual.

Anonymous

C'tan Phase sword it is Callidus assasins signature weapon

Anonymous

Fun fact about C'Tan phase swords, while they are some of the deadliest HtH weapons around, against a C'Tan (big or small) they are of less use than a wiffel bat or a cotton filled pillow. both of which damage potential outweighs the Phase sword by A LOT vs a C'Tan shard.

philip

What happened to N'kari?? I noticed that she-he-it was missing in this chapter. Will we see N'kari in the next chapter???

Antony444

Yeah, using one of those against a C'Tan...it's better to use 'certified' holy water. At least you will have managed to get a Star God wet for a second or two.

Kioras

Objective E and Objective H are the two that will have the largest long term impact for the Imperium. No doubt after ending the Siege of Terra the Custodes were at the high point for morale since the Emperor actually walked. Taking the actual Crystal mind/AI was not mentioned as an Objective so it may end up being one of those very important bonus ones that matters long term for the Imperium. Eliminating the pink abombination is a major point but getting Chaos to back off is just as important.

Anonymous

I hope the next chapter starts with Taylor make a comment about how the queen of blades challenged first Dorn when he was exhausted, only to be dissatisfied with the fight, and now she is is challenging her when she has been fighting successive battles for hours: "is this what you do? Challenge already exhausted fighters?"

Antony444

Note that the Queen of Blades could have challenged Taylor at any moment between the arrival not Fulgrim and the moment she did. She was already there the whole time. So, no Lelith doesn't deliberately challenge exhausted fighters.

Kioras

I find the idea of a Fast Battleship interesting depending on how much 'faster' it is for the Imperium. The problem is failing a propulsion break through, it is a marginal increase over current Battleships. One that means either trading down armor and guns for a marginal increase in speed. If the fast is good enough to compare with Eldar ships it might be worth it, however I doubt that it has any such advantage other then to either have less armor or less guns, or both compared to a more balanced design

Mackenzie Buckle

how are the freed xeno slaves doing?

Antony444

Bad. Like the human slaves, most were tortured horribly, poisoned, mentally broken, or all three at the same time. Vengeance sustains you for a while, but it can't be substituted for everything.

Antony444

The idea of 'fast battleship' will be spoken with Dragon and several Archmagi later. The problem is while it's faster to build one of those than a 'conventional' battleship, it still takes a long time. And it definitely lacks the armour of its tonnage. So it has the price of a grand cruiser or a large battlecruiser, but nowhere near their life-expectancy when things begin to go to hell...and this happen more often than the Imperial Navy feels like admitting in this galaxy.

Anonymous

Did I just pay 5 dollars to gain early access to a single chapter of one story? Yes, yes I did. Was it worth - ABSOLUTELY. HOLY MOLY. You deliver with every chapter without fail. Keep up the amazing, fantastic, wonderful, fun writing. Can NOT, though I will HAVE to, wait for the the Queen of Blades, More Rogal Dorn, possible Khan, Taylor becoming even more of a holy figure, just, AH! SO MUCH TO LOOK FORWARD TO!

Trevayne

Thinking about Dorn's departure, he may have just done the Administratum a big unintended favor. While he hasn't gone to Terra to clean house and terrorize millions of bureaucrats, by showing himself he has demonstrated that he is still extant. The smarter elements of the bureaucracy are on notice that Dorn is stil alive and that he really could return to clean house. They have an indeterminate time to clean up their acts, but they can't say they were not warned of his possiblereturn to Terra, after he recuses the Khan.l

Kioras

The ability to start major housecleaning would be tied to how many active Primarchs there are. Dorn on Terra might scare some of them, however as stated he is not one for politics and would also be tied up reinstating a lot of the lost traditions and knowledge of his legion, repairing the Phalanx and a bunch of other things he is much more able to do. Besides if he is active Chaos must try to remove him and it would therefore be more important to get more then just him back so the Imperium can react accordingly. Now if in the next century you have Khan, Dorn and Guilliman come back, that gives the Imperium a chance to clean up since Guilliman can concentrate on politics, Dorn on defense and Khan on offense towards threats.
