This was such a great episode, that gave us a lot to talk about afterwards!
We just love the way they are developing these characters so far.

Watching this show again really made me think that the parallel play between Zuko and Aang is incredible throughout the show by framing and sequencing the scenes.

This episode really shines as one of the high points of the series and shows the strength of this show. Even almost a decade later, I can still relate and empathize so powerfully with Zuko and Aang and the fact that Zuko probably knows that things will never be the same but still tries anyway, desperately. Its heartbreaking and tragic and really makes you feel for the character

I think Iroh must feel guilt for kinda getting Zuko into this situation by letting him into the war room. I feel like that is a major reason Iroh decided to go with Zuko.

Mo

I loved getting to see what happened to Aang and I’m glad they went more in depth with his guilt. Having the Zuko and Aang parallels are really interesting.

Keep some tissues nearby. As each of these characters develop over time you will be trying hard to hold back the emotions. Watching this again I can't decide my favorite character anymore. I want to say why but you will just have to decide on your own. I do have to say watching it again has caused me to pay more attention to Iro. The dragon of the west is pretty cool.

You guys have been watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. But from this episode forward you'll really be watching Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Sonny I like your analysis about how Zuko was harshly punished for showing compassion for individuals which is why he showed so little for his crew. I never put those dots together but it makes perfect sense. Also, amazing symbolism of Aang rising out of the ocean this time instead of being consumed by it. I believe the ocean represents his childhood, he is done running from his responsibilities and must grow up.

Thanks for the reaction! I love watching the show again after so many years and you guys help me see it with fresh eyes. Also, have plenty of tissues close. :)

You have to remember what was meant by sending Zuko to find the avatar. His father, grandfather and great grandfather all tried to find the avatar and failed. The avatar hadn’t been seen for a hundred years. Many people believed he was dead. The mission to find the avatar to restore Zuko’s honour was suppose to be the joke mission, the impossible mission he could never succeed at. Banishing him and giving him an impossible mission to complete before he could come home. No one ever believe a teenager would ever succeed at finding the avatar.

Altariel

I agree, it was an impossible mission. I can't imagine how hopeless Zuko must have felt at times, during the two years he had been at sea already. He knew that the avatar hadn't been seen for 100 years, and his fixation on capturing the avatar is the result of focusing on a goal that seemed impossible to achieve and that he had to pursue anyway.

THE STOOORM YESSS

This episode gets me everytime. Well every emotional episode gets me everytime in Avatar. Its so good, even if you rewatch it a thousand times. Also i really love that you (especially Kat) gets emotional and i love how you guys review the episodes. Its always interesting what other people think of the episodes and sometimes you hear thing you never thought off. Love that you guys talk so much after the episode. And i agree with the other comments here.

Robert

As Iroh said, the Avatar gives Zuko hope. Until he saw the Avatar was alive Zuko must have felt completely hopeless. And all that as a 14 year old teenager. An age people usually complain about going to school. No wonder he is so angry all the time.
