For the RT being a gimmick stuff, I’d say I generally agree, but do try Control. Albeit it’s a lot of shiny surfaces, but that game is gorgeous and a lot of it is because of its amazing RT design and implementation.

So great to hear Jim talk about hardware again! love this episode! About Vega. I do like Vega aswell. When you undervolted it it was al lot better. The cooler was not good enough for the power it was using but it was better than the 290X. It was clear that Vega was a Datacenter first card. The compute power was insane. But that would not translate in gaming performance. They fixed that with RDNA. Shader utilisation was nog good enough on Vega when running games for compute that was no issue. And about the reference cooler of the VII it was a step up. But the new 6800 and 6800XT/6900XT coolers are two leques above that. Way better build quality nicer finish and way more quite. The fans on the VII where dissapointing. I liked the HD7990 cooler better. Still think that is the nicest looking AMD card ever. But the 6800 is comming in second. i like the more compact design compared to the XT coolers that are thicker. But the XT cooler is able to handle 50watt more with the same fan speed (tested both with the same power usage). So its clear why they did that.

I don't know if it's just me but I hardly noticed a difference with control High RT v off

Really miss Jim. That raytracing video was so awesome, too. I'd love to get more technical deep dives like that. Really wish Jim was still at it, but I'm looking forward to checking out his next endeavor.

I just finished this episode and while I enjoy 99% of them, this one has been my favorite. I might even listen again.
