Jim, are you ever going to make Tech content again?

Aguyinpa81

Support Free Thinker and he will.....think about it 🤔

For Jim: With the last few years AMD has been making quite a scene with their comeback thanks to Ryzen and the slow but ever-growing mind share in graphics (RDNA) as well. Where do you see AMD as whole heading with their vision? DO you think it will be more consumer friendly or do you think they will start making the same mistakes Intel and Nvidia has made in terms of company relations?

Jim: Hope you are well and that your health has improved! How does it feel now that you can invest time in what you really find engaging? Looking back - anything you would have done differently?

Eleriam

Jim, almost two years ago I told you in your Discord that "you know we need you Jim, we can't have you lose your motivation. You are our voice. Not only do you make sense of what is happening and explain it to us, you stand up to abuse from the brands." It's now 2021 and we've never suffered more abuse from the industry than right now. Can you come back to being our voice and make tech analysis on Youtube again? Please?

qhfreddy

Two parter, pick one or I guess take both if you like. Firstly, in retrospect, what would you have done differently with the AdoredTV channel at the time and what caused it to happen the way it did? Secondly, what's a field or industry that makes you excited now in terms of innovation and progress? What about it caught your eye?

I'm asking for your opinion on a thought I had recently - that it would be better for us consumers if AMD and Nvidia either had no set MSRP this gen, or set MSRPs ~$200 higher. Right now, retailers and scalpers benefit from the extreme demand, but with no or higher MSRP, more money would go to Nvidia/AMD, allowing them to spend more on R&D and make future microarchitectures better - thus benefiting us. Worst case scenario, if they spend the extra income on dividends etc., it won't hurt us anyway.

When can we buy Adored TV / Freethinker body pillows?

KarbinCry

Tom, please explain to Jim that Vega is the best GPU uarch family ever released. Jim will find salvation in the arms of the High Bandwidth Church! Praise be the Holy VII!

I've been a huge fan of adoredtv. I've pretty much enjoyed all of your videos even the drama ones that took a toll on you 😁. I'm not sure if youre a bitcoin fan but what do think of the claims that bitcoin mining will help renewable energy become more prominent/speed up the adoption?

Hey there Jim and Tom. Jim what are you thoughts on the new AMD gaming architectures (rx 6000 / ryzen 5000) currently out and how they are working together with Smart Access Memory? Also do you think DDR5 and PCI E 5.0 is going to make much of a difference for consumers? Or is it more for the server/enterprise side of things? And last part what are you thoughts on the infinity cache on the new 6000 series graphics cards, as far as do you think it was a worth while trade off to a wider bus for the memory? Thanks for taking the time to come on the podcast, and loved your videos on AdoredTV.

Hi Tom and Jim, being a youtuber is hard as both of you have led on. What makes it worth it? What do you take the greatest enjoyement in your work from? I'm truly gratefull for all the entertainment and knowledge both of you have given me!

Do you see RNDA 3's chiplet design, or a chiplet design 1-2 generations on from RDNA 3, giving AMD an almost unassailable lead for a good few years over NVIDIA much like has happened with chiplet design for CPUs?

I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you both about how people react to your leaks/info. In particular, I've noticed that you get a lot of hate from certain people, and there's not much actual discussion going on there usually. Their posts tend to be low effort, low context and rather personal. I remember around Vega release (I think?) people were mad because Jim tried guessing the price and guessed too low. Nevermind that you made it clear that pricing could change at any time and that it wasn't as reliable as the rest of your info. Recently, I saw somebody call out Tom because he thought that Ampere would be better at raytracing than it ended up being. The post was pretty low effort and the replies quickly devolved into a circle jerk. It was kind of like the poster was mad at Tom for not getting the performance that he "expected" or "deserved" out of Ampere. I find these kinds of reactions uncomfortable. While they're very emotionally involved, these posters don't actually put in enough effort to bring any sort of context. They treat what is a professional mistake like a personal moral failing, as if you're liars. I'm also quite surprised to see them upvoted, seeing as they're usually name calling without any sort of feedback or actual point to make. What do you think about these people and how do you deal with the hate?

Listening to Broken Silicon 90 as I write this, and I vote you put grammar corrections at the very end of every podcast as a way to close it out after you read off the Patreon names.

For Jim: First of all, Kudos to you for such well researched and nicely presented techvideos in which you burn for example Nvidia at the stake! I mean it, they where entertaining and enlightening at the same time and will be missed dearly! But watching your Freethinker videos, one soon realizes, they are just of the same quality with this nice touch of irony and sarkasm every here and there if needed. Anyway my question is: why don't you start a Freethinker podcast? Not tech-related, but in which (in your own words) you could grow for example creationists in vivid discussions? I bet that would be entertaining as hell and you sure would be up to the task! I do not mean a podcast where both side just scream at each other, but a volunteer who stands behind his point of view is chosen and the specific topic is known and both sides can do their research and prepare their argumentation for the show that is recorded some time in the future for example.

I'd love to hear Jim's commentary on the current GPU market (availability aside).

Hi Jim, after watching your speculation of zen 2 having a Navi chiplet, do you think chiplet APU’s like you described could actually happen going into AM5? With twitter/reddit rumours suggesting Navi31 as 80CU MCM and zen 4 Raphael having Navi2 graphics, I personally believe it’s not impossible for AMD to put something LIKE a 20CU ish chiplet alongside a zen 4/5 CCD, making for an attractive, low latency solution for lower budget gamers not looking to shell out $400+ for their midrange GPU alone. In fact, after watching your video analysing Navi 10’s die, it occurred to me that AMD could probably fit 40CUs of RDNA, no infinity cache, no memory PHYs, into ~100mm^2 on 5nm, leaving the bandwidth problem to be solved by anything from: - flexible I/O dies, on/off die caches, 3D stacked memory/cache, HBM etc. Do you think this is a viable solution and if not, how do you see gaming hardware evolving going forward then? Could intel come out with something like this? Also, do you know what happened to Emerald/Ruby Rapids and Turin :D ?

Hey Tom and Jim, so glad Jim could join Broken Silicon! Hope things have become a lot less stressful and taxing since AdoredTV was retired last year. As two guys who have never passed up an opportunity to take the piss out of Nvidia, as well deserved as it often is, I thought it would be moderately humorous if you would both say something sincerely complimentary about them. That way you can toss it back in fanboy's faces when they accuse you of only crapping on them. I am sure this episode will not be kind to them as a whole haha.

Hey Tom, Jim. Both of you are known in part for your general reliability of your sources. How do y'all find and cultivate those trust relationships. Furthermore how do decide which sources to trust and which to ignore.

Sam Mcarthur

Well holy shit! I am looking forward to this very much. The development of the COVID vaccine shows what the international community can do in the face if a crisis in research and development of a product. If there was one technology (from any field) you would choose to have similar resources thrown behind it, what would that be?

Mia

Hi Jim, You're very well respected for analysis of tech _companies_' practices; shady, shitty and otherwise over many years. I'm curious for your thoughts looking the other direction: have there been any significant cultural shifts in the DIY/gaming PC _community_ you find interesting or important since you started paying attention to the field?
