Abigail is essentially the voice for Will's innermost wishes in this episode. She openly talks about how they should all have run away together, how she WANTED them to run away together and be a family. How, no matter what Hannibal has done in the past, no matter whether he's still toying with them to some degree, she still wants to find him and be by his side. It really shows how Will's honey trap in S2 was very much genuine and not actually an act. He just allowed himself to be more intimate and honest with himself about his own desires and instincts, be they queer or murderous. I love how all pretense has been thrown out the window at this point. It's just straight up "Hannibal left you his broken heart. He wants you to find him. Your il Mostro" I'm obviously also just a massive slut for all the queer religious imagery and language in this episode. "Defying God, that's [Hannibal's] idea of a good time" is something I think all ex-religious queer people can relate to, considering that's basically our entire existence lmao As for when Bryan fully realized and embraced the queerness of the story he was telling; I'm pretty sure it actually wasn't until S3. He definitely embraced the shipping and encouraged fans during the airing of S2, but when you listen to the commentary track, it's still clear he thought he was telling a story about two (mostly) straight guys who just had a really intense friendship lmao. Like, it's honestly fucking hysterical to listen to him describing the tender hand washing scene and a lot of the other deeply gay moments in S2 as "brotherly" and "platonic" etc. From what I remember, he admits in the commentary of S3 that it was only looking back on S2 again that he actually realized how deeply queer the characters and their relationship and story had become, so he chose to embrace that and continue to develop it.

One thing that is really easy to miss is that when Will was walking through the church with Abigail, the priest wasn't looking at Will, he was looking at Abigail. Abigail's spirit is with Will. Also, I had completely forgotten that Will told Hannibal he forgives him until after Hannibal appeared.

I noticed the priest who clocked Abigail, and since I couldn't 100000% remember if Abigail was dead or not my brain shorted out on how to interpret it, haa. In hindsight it's totally eerie.

Regarding the bit about the photo of a young Hannibal, as far as I am aware they used a photo of Mads as Allan Fischer from the Danish TV series Rejseholdet (Unit One). He has a shaved head and is wearing a leather jacket in the original photo so they used one of the production crew for the hair and suit, then edited the two images together.

Daaaang, a rare case of a well edited photo in a show--they usually look like embarrassing hackjobs

I know what you mean. Unless you know, this one looks very convincing!
