As an explanation of what the plan was in the Goldoa Valley, Souma has given Excel the order to deploy the 2000-man Marine elite unit, trained to fight on land, into the bottleneck in the Ursula Mountains to slow there march. They were a special Elite Unit in the Navy, you can think of them kinda like the special Marine Units America or other Countrys have, they are Trained to fight in Landbattles and they laid a Ambush for them. After the Amidonia soldiers First went through the valley to Altomura, they laid low and waited until Scouts informed them about the Amidonian retreat. The leader of this unit is Juna, who holds the rank of Captain (Army rank). This unit first used ice ( water magic) to turn the ground into a swamp, and when the soldiers ran through there, the soldiers got stuck in the mud even with horses. In addition, the soldiers attacked from treetops with ice magic and with arrows to increase the chaos. Gaius was sure he could Return in Time and Save his City, since Van had an elite unit of 5000 men to defend the City, and he figured they could last a Couple of days, and the Army of Amidonia could encircle and defeat the army of Elfrieden in a pincer attack. He therefore did not care that soldiers were trampled due to his Order to ignore the Mud and advance (Soldiers died in the First Panic when they were stuck, and afterwards with Gaius Order, they ignored everyone who got again Stuck, the Novels mentioned a lot of Soldiers were Trampeld in the First Chaos and after the Order from Gaius by other Soldiers or Horses to death) and had massive exhaustion since he almost never let his Soldiers Rest.

Souma, as we know though, read a Lot of Historical Books, about War, Politic etc. So he could generally assume the character of Gaius VIII, and While baiting him with " i burn your City " Gaius was therefore to focused on his Capital, which by the Way was rather Close to the Elfrieden Border. It took Gaius a couple of days in the Novels after he passed through Goldoa Valley, since they were slow due to gathering Provisions and Conscripting Commoners in Villages, since from 30.000, as mentioned, 15.000 either died in the Ambush, were captured by Junas Force ( Juna gave order to bury the dead Amidonian soldiers in fear that Monster Start to take a likeing to human flesh and ordered to capture and treat all wounded soldier Left behind, her idea was that those soldier will be drawn to Souma, since there leader abandoned them, While the King of the other Nation shows Compassion even to enemys) or they simply deserted. That was also Soumas Goal. He had as the Novels mentioned After he "defeated" the 2 dukes 55.000 soldiers that he moved to Van. 10.000 were stationed to Watch the soldiers of Van, While 45.000 troops waited for Gaius southwest of Van in a Plain Area. ( whats more Soumas troups had a full day to Rest and could prepare, While Gaius didnt payed any Attention and Left bis soldiers utterly exhausted), so the Timing Sees a Bit off in the Anime, but they (Elfrieden) were the First to arrive since the Carmine duchy was at the northeastern border of Amidonia, and Van is only a few days with a military march away. They would have arrived at the same Time almost, but due to the groundwork Junas Marine Elite Unit made, they delayed there march Speed and succeded in exhausting them (Since they lost there supplies in the Chaos in Goldoa Valley and Mentally a fair bit) which gave the Soldiers of the Army under the Command of the Forbidden Army enough Time to arrive at Van around 1 day before Gaius reached the Plains without having to do a "killer" march like Gaius did, while Souma did his speech and declared War when he was on the way to those Plains, he loaded a Jewel Voice Broadcast onto the Royal Gondola ( although in the Novels, the Thing was apparently to big and they needed to Cut a Hole into the Roof, which left the Inside exposed to the Cold Outside Air and everyone, especially Poor Carla, was Freezing due to this, Souma regretted even doing this^^) Here is btw a Map from the Light Novels, which shows where the 3 Duchys are in Elfrieden, Altomura, and where Van is positioned: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/genjitsushugisha/images/2/26/Elfrieden_%26_Amidonia_and_there_surroundings.png/revision/latest?cb=20200420123515

Definitely seems that way. I'm told a lot of his plans are thanks to Hakuya too. Wish they anime would show that some more.

Man I told you in some of the previous episodes that this is a false conflict just to pretty much secure the future reign of the new king, now they say this plan came from carmine but I still feel that the queen predicted this events 20 steps ahead of even hakuya, souma and carmine, it just the way she is so calm remember she is the actual power in the throne.

Queen is more than likely calculating from the shadows with this being part of her plan, but Carmine devised it himself. It's probably all part of her calculations. Someone with her power wouldn't simply relinquish it as she did... She also had her husband as the King even though she was more than likely carrying out decisions behind the scenes. I honestly love when series do things like this.
