E9 - Small Fry and Reverse Retribution

There's a trope in shounen anime that enemies will inexplicably tell each other their abilities before they use them. This would seemingly give the other guy an advantage if they know what's coming, but exposition is exposition I guess - it's for the audience's benefit, not the opponent's. Nanami's line about the pact was basically to explain why they do that in this universe, that it actually gives them more power, which is just really funny. Not much more to it than that!

Yeah, the "revealing your hand" thing and pacts in general will be explained more over time, though not always directly. Something Sukuna said early on can help clarify for now if you're ever confused. He said "A pact founded in mutual interest. That's one of the key factors behind all Jujutsu". From that, we can assume that all pacts generally have some kind of a "give and take" aspect. In this case, the "give" is that the enemy gets to know your technique (and can therefore potentially counter you better). The "take" is that your technique gets stronger. The recipient is less important than the effect, if that makes sense (i.e. it doesn't necessarily matter who the pact is on, just that you know what it does in the end). Also, if you need help remembering Nanami's name, "Nana" is the Japanese word for 7, and his technique uses the ratio of 7:3.

Nah mahito just killed them because he was annoyed by them…also nanamin is like a nickname for nanami that’s why he said he would slap yuji lol. In Japan you only do stuff like that if you real close. Also by human curse mahito just meant he was born from hatred by humans which most are.

nanami's here!! we got another info dump in this ep, i love that you're invested in the power system! jjk's power system can get confusing sometimes lol but, we will help you for sure🕺 i love the difference between gojo and nanami's dynamic with itadori. while gojo tries to prepare itadori to be strong and carry the burden of being a sorcerer, nanami wants to to take that burden and protect him from it, some of my favorite quotes from the series are by him "you've faced several life-or-death situations but, that does not make you an adult. finding more fallen-out hairs on your pillow, watching your favorite stuffed bread disappear from the convenience store...the accumulation of those little despairs is what makes a person an adult". i feel like that alone says a lot about their characters, i love that about nanami so much

If you guys didn't already make the connection, the circular marks on Junpei's head are from when the bullies put out their cigarettes on him. Pretty cruel 😢 He wears his hair like that to hide the scarring.

The dub in this anime literally changes some of the original sound effect quality not to mention the dub itself is bellow average. If it’s not at least Cowboy bebop quality then we don’t want it. Sorry bud but your opinion is the minority.

I think you were supposed to make the cigarette/scars/hair connection in this episode. I do think it's pretty clearly implied — Mahito brushes Junpei's hair away to reveal circular scars, and bullies were shown moving the lit end of a cigarette towards his face. I may be wrong, but I honestly don't remember any mention of this again (the dinner table talk was a different, albeit tangential, topic), and I can't recall any other scene showing Junpei's forehead.

Yeah, the connection is made in this episode that he gets the cigarette burns, to say this here isn't a spoiler. Because that particular beat in the scene was fairly short, they may have missed it, not sure. But it definitely is this ep
