Yes the last two seasons weren’t as good but there is still enough good in my opinion to appreciate what the cast put together. Can’t throw away the cool scenes and good acting performances just because the directors deviated

Crocus did state he's a doctor after the crew realized the sky inside of Laboon was all painted by him. He said: "Call it a doctor's playful mind." Hence the sedative he said he needs to make more of for Laboon to stop hitting his head (said when he injected Laboon with the big needle).

Trust your gut, Oda gets you to like some not very so nice people LOL. Laboon is not mechanical, the old man is sedating Laboon internally to stop him from bashing his head and hurting himself. Its he so big, Laboon doesn't notice those chambers built inside him IMO but who knows? Oh and the Grand Line can get wild too, so open you minds and expectations and get ready for a adventure.

aside from the calm belts and reverse mountain, there was also a cannon scene in the filler arc where nami explains their world's geography (specifically the orientation of the red line and grand line), but that was covered in the live action so y'all are good.

Our first foray into the grand line starts off with a bang! With the introduction of Crocus, Laboon, Miss Wednesday, and Mister 9, we've got a few new cast members to keep track of. Gotta love the author's ability to defy expectations and keep us guessing who the villain even is. I think Crocus' introduction is one of my favorite character intros that we get. His incredible intensity paired with his general nonchalance is just hilarious to me. Interestingly, there is a real life analogue of the Calm Belt. On Earth, we call them the doldrums (or the Intertropical Convergence Zone). Ships can get stuck there, but thankfully they do not have to worry about attacks from sea kings! Good job on skipping the filler. I was worried how it might work out with the watch-along format, but you made it feel pretty seamless. On the topic of filler, I'm sure people have already mentioned but the first 13 minutes or so of episode 61 are also filler. The total non-canon events include anything on Warship Island or Lost Island, the existence of Apis and the Millennial Dragons (along with Luffy's apparently ability to speak with dragons), and the existence of the Sickle Man (and his devil fruit). The events of Reverse Mountain are all canon with the only major exception being the Sickle Man's brief appearance and Nami straight up murdering him.

dragons are NOT a thing. thats what makes it filler. episode 61 was still part of the filler story

Damn I forgot how majestic Laboon sounds :( Loved your confusion, Oda threw some fine abstractions at us with this whale. Like where does the light even come from inside of him XD Aww Carissa got so emotional at just a glimpse of Laboon's backstory and rightly so because it's truly heartbreaking 😭 btw ep. 62 was action packed because it's covered whole 2 chapters of manga, the next episode does that too!

I was really hoping they would here "Mr. 9" and remember someone from the live action, but I guess not. This entrance to the Grand Line part is just another example of how great a writer Oda is. He makes you care about a freaking whale of all things. I can't wait until they find out who Laboon is waiting for, and have a better understanding of who Crocus is

You guys should watch another one of the big3 I started my anime journey with all the big 3 some many friends told me not start with this anime because they are so long and complicated and should start with more shorter anime but I don’t regret it because the big 3 ( including dragon ball is the foundation of anime for me nothing is compared the new gen is good but not close to old I would recommend you to see bleach
