Another page of Shenzhen Fast! This was another tough one. Not only because I decided to draw a cityscape in the middle of it....

(yeah it's traced but still... shout out to me haha)...

... but I also spent some time rewriting this one. I wanted to say something about migration, which is deeply important to how things work there. But it's also a very sensitive issue. This is something that I've been struggling with through the whole comic. China is just a place, and it's people are just people. I wanted my #1 focus to be on the people who live there and actually do all this work.

But I also want to be careful about how I describe things for several reasons. First, because I don't want to make it seem like everything about China is great -- its government is scary and the people there lead difficult lives. Secondly because the people themselves aren't free to criticize -- and so portraying their critique is putting them in real physical jeopardy. Thirdly because I am an outsider, and I can't speak for their experience.

It's a difficult line to walk, and I'll probably be tweaking things more, but I still think it's an interesting topic that I want to write about that impacts the lives of everyday people around the world.

Hearing you address this fine line is making me more interested to see the finished work, so thank you for talking about it!
