What does a website look like before it's a website? Since I'm between jobs for a few weeks, I decided the best use of my time would be to figure out the future of Wasted Talent! This has been a long-back-burning project as I've struggled to rebuild my capacity after my illness and keep the flame of being a creative alive.

Building/creating new things is always way more exciting and motivating than maintaining or improving existing things, so that's been a real struggle, but I'm doing the best I can.

I had a bit of money left over after I paid all my taxes from the Kickstarter, and I decided to use that fund to invest in the creation of "Wasted Talent 2.0" :) The first step was to upgrade the appearance of the Wasted Talent website. It's not a big change, just a cosmetic upgrade. I hired a local Graphic Designer who could help me get out of my own head and re-envision what Wasted Talent could be. First we worked together to create "wireframes" like you see above. These are bare-bones mockups of how the website will work, and what goes where. It makes feedback a lot more clear and easy at the early stage (and you can see some of my feedback here. Note: it's always a good idea to ask before you redline someone's work, some designers have a negative emotional reaction to red ink. I asked before I sent this :) )

This is what we came up with:

They also included a mobile layout:

These aren't "real" websites yet -- just photoshop mockups! It will be up to me (and... someone else?) later to determine how to make wastedtalent.ca look like this. But one step at a time.

I also hired a bunch of remote graphic designers to help me make Wasted Talent suitable for webtoon! (shhh, don't tell anyone yet ;) )

Anyway that's what's been going on with me mostly. A lot of busy, unsexy work that will hopefully make something exciting happen soon!!!
