Classic Trek where Spock gets the giant bug stuck on his back is fantastic and a prototype for many shows bug episodes. I will be your one person that enjoys bug episodes, assuming they bring something new to the table.

Seems you missed that the puddle jumper's nacelle did not fully retract and therefore it got stuck in the gate . You'd think they'd give a little more leeway on those things but TV shows gotta TV show.

Yes, I like bug episodes. They are creepy but exciting. They had explained before in SG1 that the gates do not assemble objects until the entire object has entered on the other side, it sits in a buffer.

Retro Tom

Not sure if you recognnized him, but the guy who plays Dr. Zalenka (The Czech Scientist) played Anatoli Knyazev on Arrow. As for Teal'c (spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn't seen SG-1, but not for Shan) he stepped through the gate and had his pattern transmitted to Earth but the transmitting gate was destroyed before he remateriazed so his pattern was in the gate's memory buffer

Lastly more about the reaction than the story, are you wearing colored contacts or did you play with the lighting? Your eyes look especially intriguing today.

AfterShowReactions

No lighting change or contacts. I get asked about if I wear contacts a lot in my life due to my eyes being the shade they are. I guess sometimes they’re a bit more green than normal and maybe today it was like that?

I have many times in my life been called remarkably unobservant but I find it hard to believe I never noticed how pretty your eyes are in all the time I've been watching you.

Patrick - Excelsior

Yes, I like bug episodes. They are creepy but that adds to the excitement. The doctor called the bug a "cling on" ... a Klingon ... 🤣. In SG1 Teal’c did in fact get stuck in the buffer of the Stargate in the Season 5 Episode 14 named ‘48 Hours’ . It just so happens that Dr. McKay, David Hewlett, was in that episode. Weird that the Teal'c episode was named '48 Hours' and this episode is '38 Minutes'.

Not everyone on Atlantis has the gene. There are quite a few people who do, but Sheppard just seems to have a larger amount of it. Also, the gene therapy only works in about 50 percent of recipients( I could be wrong about that number). So if they gave the gene to everyone, it would only take in about half of them. Rodney was lucky that he was in the 50 percent it worked on. Also, they can't just jump through the wormhole, because it won't transmit them through until everything is able to, namely the Puddle Jumper. That's the reason the front half of the Jumper didn't appear in Atlantis. Because the gate only transmits things in one piece.

Paul Carroll

lol i like the startrek reference

I don't always dislike bug episodes, sometimes their done really well and their intense. But my immediate reaction is usually Bugs! Why did it have to be bugs?

catwhowalksbyhimself

That's a bit of a spoiler because they haven't explained that part of the gene therapy yet. That's from a future episode.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Fun fact, Dr. Zelenka was supposed to be a Russian character, but the actor is Czech and Czech is his first language, so the changed the character's nationality to match the actor, which is why you hear him muttering to himself in Czech throughout the episode.

Spectre907

Which is one of the funniest things about atlantis every time it happens

2023-06-18 00:32:48 There's only one blockbuster left in the entire world. I don't think there's anymore physical stores. I love bug episodes and don't really get the hate. I personally HATE bugs in real life but the episodes don't bother me whatsoever. I'm enjoying this show so far, but I just feel a disconnect with all these new characters. I kind of wish we could see the SG1 team explore this new galaxy. I would love to see these characters exploring more than just our galaxy. I like to imagine what it would be like if this spinoff was just the SG1 team and some new characters went to Atlantis. I think that would have been fun. I'm sure that once I get used to these new characters, I will start to get attached to them. I just want to see Jack, Daniel, Carter, and Teal'c deal with the Wraiths, a completely new villain other than the Goa'uld. Plus, Daniel found the damn coordinates. He deserves to be able to go there. LOL I've always imagined the SG1 team to be special, where they are the only ones who can save the day and figure out how to save the world. So now, I feel like the SG1 team isn't as special, which is crazy, I know. But I'm starting to warm up to some of these characters. I just miss the SG1 team and imagine what they would do in these situations. I hope they crossover one day and explore together. I also think the intro is actually really good. It looks well-made to me and doesn't look fan-made at all. I think it's just different from what you expected, so that's why you were disappointed. I might be a bit critical here, but I'm enjoying the new show so far. I like the new stories and technology they keep introducing. However, I can't deny that I have some separation issues from the characters I love from SG1 since they are a big reason I fell in love with the show in the first place.

It's an experimental procedure as Beckett pointed out in 1x03, I think it should probably be a given that by using that information you'd expect it not to work for everyone (yet? who knows.) I'll allow it. But do be cautious. If at any point there's information you'd like to share but you know for a fact it will get explained in a later episode. Don't post about it.

1. Ok don't you dare with the whole "I'm still not convinced that was the previous time" ....Froots... I swear... IF.... IFFFFF I had access to admin codes ...I WOULDN'T still be bitter about it ....I spent 2.5 weeks flying around on an overloaded Quetzal from our floating base.. The one with the pink trees that you liked so much ...I made a FUCKTON of trips through the gate to different spots on the map.... Took a 5 minute journey a SHITTON of times to the Atlantis location since we didn't have a gate there yet and then SLOWLY built the entire base only for you guys to use it for 2 hours and bailing (maybe cause I accidentally let some dinos into the gateroom) ...I VERY MUCH considered letting all the dinos starve to death and then leaving the tribe with as much loot as possible ....I got as far as stashing secret items somewhere on the map and changing codes on all the things on Atlantis so that even IF I got kicked out of the tribe I could still come back in and steal shit ....But it never got that far ...Trust me ....It was MOST DECIDEDLY the most recent time we played 2. You after my explanation that Athosian kids aren't like the pussy kids from Earth.. That they wouldn't get scared by Jason and Freddy cause they have lived in fear of The Wraith all their lives: "I meaaaaaan.. They (Freddy and Jason) scare me" .....Well yeah Froots... You're not Athosian ....You're one of those pussy kids from Earth 3. While you were talking you missed that the puddle jumper wing didn't retract ...That's how it got stuck in the gate ...Normally the wings retract before entering the gate so it can safely fit through 4. Nope ....38 minutes is the standard rule with stargates ...Doesn't matter if it's a Milky Way gate or Pegasus gate ...38 minutes is the maximum it can safely stay open 5. I feel like IF the 38 minutes would've been up and the Puddle Jumper would've STILL been lodged halfway in the gate ....There'd PROBABLY be a safety feature in place that would've sent the front part of the Puddle Jumper through the gate and into Atlantis's gate buffer ......But that's just me fansplaining ...For some reason they decided to change it up a bit and say the front of the jumper would've been lost ...And that's probably the case ....But still... I feel a race as advanced as The Ancients would've had some sort of safety feature for this kinda thing since they created the Puddle Jumpers and MIGHT have encountered problems like this themselves too 6. You probably didn't notice ...But much like with 8x04 of SG-1 ..They've started using a projection screen on some of the "open" stargates ...As in the puddle is just a projection to save up on VFX ....How can you tell???? Well there's a certain moment where McKay closed the mid-section door of the Jumper and you can clearly see his shadow being cast on to the projection screen showing the puddle ...A little whoopsie in the production .....The projection screen could also be seen in 8x04 just after O'neill tried to trick Camel-ass into thinking he was going to hand him over to Ba'al ...O'neill was seen standing in front of the "open" gate and you could just tell it was a projection 7. I can't even begin to comprihend how you thought the bug had anything to do with the Puddle Jumper getting stuck further into the gate ....That's like a whole other level of thinking ...Something I've probably outgrown .....Yes... That IS what I'm saying ...You fucking goof 8. The Wraith Soldier's mask proooooobably has like some sort of heads up display or something ...That might be how they're able to see out of those masks ....Same as with the Jaffa helmets 9. Well luckily the bug is gone and everyone survived ...Sadly we lost Lt. Ford's jacket which was wrapped around the bug ..But you win some you lose some
