Regarding ads on the Root tutorial (Patreon)

Hey everyone, I wanted to write a quick post about the ads that are now running on the Root tutorial. First off, I hate ads. I don't begrudge those who put them in their videos, I totally get it, but I choose not to run ads on mine because I personally don't like them and I don't want you to have to watch them. So why are there ads on this one video now? Short answer: Youtube is weird.

Long answer: A while ago I had a subscription to a library of royalty free music. I no longer subscribe to them, and was unaware that your use of their music is only allowable while still subscribed. Copyright law is weird. I'm obviously not trying to break it, so when I was given a copyright claim regarding my ending credits song, I was faced with a tough choice. As part of the claim, Youtube has allowed them to run a small banner ad on my site that they will profit from if you click on it. I didn't know that was a thing Youtube could just do, but  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . If I want to remove it I have to remove the music, and because of how I've edited the video, that means I'd have to completely remove the audio from a significant chunk of the outro, which I'd prefer not to do, or completely remove the video, re-edit it, and submit a new one, which I'd also prefer not to do. 

Honestly, since I was using their music without the rights and I do believe that people should be compensated for their work, I'm fine accepting this as a fair compromise. And as far as I can tell it's just a banner ad, which is pretty harmless as far as ads go. However, if you have to watch a full commercial before the Root video plays though, let me know because that might change my decision.

tl;dr - there's an ad running on Root. I'm sorry. I don't want it there either.
