This story started with a very simple and fairly trivial request.

"Okay I want a girl to get drawn to a barbershop and she gets a haircut turning her into a boy. She’s a popular girl who gets turned.  But the thing is that the barbershop only shows up for the mean kids"

We then started to chat about why this happens. He didn't want it to be a life lesson or anything like that. The girl, now boy, would only remember ever being a boy. I don't like those kind of stories. I want there to be consequences or at least observers. But after having thought about it for a while I decided to think of it like a cosmic event, where God or something was the observer, addressing some flaw in the design.

As for the actual story, my sister worked in London for several years, and shared a house with someone working at HR for the hairdresser chain Toni & Guy, so I picked one of their locations as the stage.
