Gon doesn't care more about Kite than Killua, he's just lashing out at Killua for standing in the way of his revenge and challenging the conclusions that hes coming to about the situation. Killua's level headedness and analytical nature sometimes makes him come across as emotionless, while Gon is ruled by emotion, Gon can't cope with what he's feeling in this moment and lets not forget he's a child after all, so he interprets Killua's calmness as a lack of caring.

HaNo0onat

No matter how many times I watch this episode still makes me super sad for both gon and killua

I think it’s interesting how Pitou said that if Kumogi dies, the king will stop being who he is, and that Pitou is trying to protect that. It’s a level of thought beyond just following orders and probably the exact opposite of how Pouf would react.

lotta ppl hated gon here after what he said to kilua, but idk dont these ppl who criticize Gon imagine how is this scene to him, a fkn monster healing a human talking about SAVING, Gon here is closest to being a human being than Kilua. Even if the humans are the ones who injured Komugi, building up that tension and emotions of hate and vengeance for so much and then hearing Pitou talking about "an important person" is something anyone would be mad about, I do not think there is a human being that can remain calm in this situation, I was suprised when I read how many people hated Gon here, what he said to Kilua is awful, but I would let it pass with his state of mind, still Gon pulled himself together in his worst state of mind and waited. and to be honest if you watch this show from the beginning, Gon was never the type of acting good and being kind, he was and still SELFISH since the beginning, the only thing that matters to him is what related to him. Himself, and then his friends. he was protecting his friend and he was about being kind with them, until it is between him and a friend, because he is selfish he will always choose himself first. this scene was the best scene that shows Gon's writing and personality. Imagine growing up knowing that your Dad is a selfish a**hole who left u just to be a Hunter, idk man i really dk what to say but this scene is just perfect, me personally I think remaining calm under all circumstances is not an emotion that is even close to a human being that's why I am with Gon in this scene 100% when it comes to decisions and emotions, at the end he did not harm Komugi even though he was about to, but that's what it means to be a person with emotions, ahh i love this show

Nrock23

"I know this is obvious, but the way Gon sits like Hisoka, the prominent psychopathic killer of the series helps sell to me how ready he is to kill Pitou. He sees her as nothing more than a means to an end, to heal Kite. If Pitou fails, he/she (they?) WILL die. And nothing will change that. Whether it was what he truly wanted or not, Gon has become a true hunter. And nothing will rob him of his prey." This was a youtube comment I always really liked on an amv for gon's rage. so yeah like Hisoka

kingkoopa98

Episodes like this is why CAA is one of the greatest arcs in anime. And it gets even better from here

tomatosoup

Gon knew Kite since early childhood while Killua didn't. Killua is fully committed to the mission so def a low blow in that way but Gon is more attached to Kite

Gon wasn’t wrong though. That was the only time Pitou was extremely vulnerable, a one-in-a-million chance. Tbh I don’t even know what to do in this situation either.

corLeonis

sorry. i laughed at the reaction.. no breathing reaction at Pitou and Gon confrontation hahah

Mysterious Figure

So if I'm not mistaken Kite appeared in episode 75 of the anime and died in episode 85. In those 10 episodes the only relationship Gon and Killua formed with him were something like student-teacher and maybe something of a friend, not really even a strong friend, more of a comrade in battle. So to anchor such a strong character motivation for Gon in such a superficial relationship for it to justify Gon's incredibly over the top reaction to Pitou in that scene is pretty weird and unconvincing. I'm honestly not feeling Gon's rage at Pitou especially to that degree. Gon is being written here as if Pitou killed his PARENT or any of the most important members of his family while he is confronting her about Kite there. I don't know if something else will explain this later but at this moment in the show this seems pretty out of character for Gon to so nonchalantly dismiss the kid on the ground several times and trying to just kill Pitou before being stopped a few times by Killua and then Pitou surrendering. Gon was never the kind of character to show disregard for others, especially innocent children, and was most certainly not someone to put revenge high on his priority. It feels like his whole character development is being flipped upside down without proper lead up and build up to justify it, and it doesn't feel convincing nor does it make sense with what was shown about him as a character so far. Hopefully the next few episodes show something else because this doesn't really look good. I'll just add my personal take on Kite here, even tho it's probably unpopular with so many fanboys of this show, but I think Kite was such a boring and uninteresting character, with an uninteresting and underdeveloped backstory. I didn't care for him almost at all, he was given too little time and was killed off too soon. His abilities were so silly and shitty, so the only good thing about him for Gon was that he gave Gon a tiny bit of info about his father, which is like breadcrumbs worth next to nothing as usual in this show. All in all, I felt ZERO sadness when he died. I didn't even feel sad for Gon that Kite was dead which says a lot. And that lazy backstory about Kite and animals... oh man, that was so cheesy and cheap, seen a million times in so many stories, supposed to immediately make the viewer like the character... oh please writer, try harder.

UziBby

As a cowboys fan, we are indeed cooked.

Ale

I love this episode, the tension, the music, the voice acting... It has sooo many feelings on it, but I always get sad for Gon and Killua 🥲

devakira

Here is a part of a killua's analysis (maybe this is a little bit out of context but this is connected to my comments which are below to understand better the emotional impact on Killua in this episode). Sorry this is very long, I don't know where to start there is just (for gon as well) too much to say, this a journey to self-worth/acceptance for killua : In his case, as a child that is so cut off from genuine love (for exemple illumi really loves Killua but in a twisted and toxic way) and affection and taking so many drastic measures for it, it also means that when he finally does obtain it (by meeting Gon), he is constantly in fear of losing it. In his desperation, Killua sacrifices thinking about what he wants in favor of asking himself what Gon wants. After everything that Gon’s done for him, Killua clings on him, seeing Gon as a perfect being who lowered himself down to compliment him and give him a meaning, and with everything that’s happened, Killua only wants to repay Gon. And he tries, he tries so hard. On his journey to reach self-worth, he sacrifices everything about himself. He doesn’t know how good of a person he already is ; he only believes that he is a good person if he is useful to Gon. He believes that he is only a tool used for Gon’s purpose, and that his one purpose in life is to keep him safe.

devakira

It’s a tragic reimagining of a child who only wants love. A child who has been denied that his whole life, running away trying to find something he can appreciate, something he can love like his own. And in doing so he doesn’t understand his worth, and he doesn’t understand that he has always been an important person to Gon. The irony of it all is that with Killua’s nonchalant, untrusting nature and personality many would expect him to be the one that would betray Gon. That Gon would be the one who would probably put more in the relationship trying to prove himself to Killua. But here it’s quite obvious that Killua puts much more into the relationship, to the point that his need for Gon’s friendship comes into conflict with his family’s teaching to run from an enemy you don’t know the power of. Killua even contemplates leaving Gon’s side when Gon gets his nen back, after being told countless times that he is going to have to leave Gon if he can’t break that “bad habit of his.”

devakira

And it’s here where the cracks in their friendship start becoming more obvious. As Gon looks forward to his goals, Killua looks back, cleaning up the mess left in Gon’s wake. While Killua is so anxious and terrified that he is disposable and not doing enough for Gon, Gon, being the innocent child that he is, does not notice Killua’s mental struggles with himself. What results is a tragedy between two young boys, boys who aren’t capable of seeing from someone else’s perspective. And then Killua pulls the needle out. Illumi’s needle is an interesting object because it’s a physical manifestation for the reach of the Zoldyck family. It represents the struggle for Killua to escape from the family destiny set for him and everything that holds him back from really giving his everything from protecting Gon.

Enma

Sorry for the long post, The portrayal of Gon navigating through such an intense emotional turmoil was masterfully done, as well as incredibly sad. In his eyes, seeing the stark contrast between witnessing Neferpitou's compassionate actions, actively healing Komugi, breaking their arm as an act of sincerity, and the earlier brutality inflicted upon Kite becomes a profound source of internal conflict. As he grapples with conflicting emotions, juxtaposing the need for revenge for Kite's suffering against the unexpected display of mercy towards Komugi. Gon finds the situation both unfair and nearly unbelievable. How can someone who he thought and believed to be so evil and irredeemable suddenly show sincerity and compassion for someone else's sake? Completely challenging Gon's preconceived notions, pushing him to reconsider the nature of individuals, the potential for change, and the intricate interplay of emotions within them. The internal struggle he faces, the confusion that ensues, and his descent into such a rage that is being fueled by revenge is very disheartening to see. We also see the impact of trauma and the toll of seeking vengeance manifest in Gon's treatment of Killua. Unintentionally, Gon says hurtful words, accusing Killua of maintaining composure due to lacking personal stakes in the fight. It's a moment of emotional distress for Gon, and his words are more a reflection or projection of his internal struggles and frustrations rather than an accurate assessment of Killua's feelings or motivations. I understand and sympathize with Gon's desire for revenge, but is obtaining it at the cost of his humanity and the essence that defines him, worth it? But I believe the best part of the episode, and honestly one of the most remarkable moments in the series, was the outstanding performance by Gon's voice actress, Megumi Han. I genuinely think that this moment is incredibly memorable solely due to her performance. A fun fact: when auditioning for the role of Gon, she was unanimously chosen over more than 100 other participants.

Naaman Morton

I think what it comes down to is that kite was this one step closer to his dad someone that earned his father's respect for finding him, and the idea that someone like that could be so easily stripped away from him is frustrating and can break the concept he built up that his father's planned everything up to this point and the fact that it can be flawed since he couldn't foresee this outcome happening is frustrating, it's less of how much he cares about kite and more of his world view was shattered, Gon's morals throughout this whole show is questionable and that's on purpose by the author, watching killua kill someone during the hunter exam didn't phase gon once but flips his tune the moment someone claims lives or put lives that he cares about in threat i.e. why he asks in a frustrating manner to the phantom troupe on why they can claim lives so easily, the appraiser from the yorknew arc even makes a inner monolog commenting on gon's scary black and white morals, the appraiser also wondering what happens when gon's "bad guy" isn't a full fledged bad guy that gon makes them out to be and that "bad guy" could have others they care (imo that was to foreshadow this specific situation gon now faces) He's a child so his mentality is what mine is mine and take that away from me and you're the bad guy, You're suppose to be frustrated with gon, he's a child throwing a fit and acting irrationally I can understand if you find kite boring though

Brady

Can the people typing essays in the comments write the essay I have due next week for me, thanks in advance

alexis ♡︎

this is purely just speculation, but i also think gon would have acted this way if it was killua who was killed as well. i honestly think a few of the friends that gon has made along the way would elicit this kind of emotion from him if they were killed in front of him. especially if he assigned some sort of blame to himself. like you said, gon is ruled by emotion, and grief and regret are some of the strongest and most persistent emotions there are. so yeah i totally agree that gon’s actions don’t really speak to who he likes more, i think they represent the strongest emotions he’s experiencing at that moment. and also yeah he’s just a kid ☹️

Anonymous

To anyone wondering why Gon is that upset at Pitou and questioning his development as a character: Gon doesn't lose it simply from wanting to avenge Kite. You can probably find whole essays on the subject elsewhere, but in short, Gon consistently prides himself on not accepting help from others unless he can pay it back. He refuses to be anyone's "charity case." This goes back to the start of the series: remember that he tried to refuse Hanzo's surrender at the end of the Hunter Exam, and even before that, he tried to refuse Hisoka's offer of the examinee badge. The fact that he couldn't let himself owe Hisoka was his whole reason for learning Nen (so he could pay him back with a punch to the face). Why is Gon so nuts about this? Well, probably because his dad abandoned him. He needed to see himself as tough and independent, someone who doesn't rely on anyone else's selfless action. And this attitude made him brave and strong, but he is inflexible about it to a fault. So imagine how he feels about Kite jumping in to protect him. Instead of tough and independent, Gon in this moment was a weak person who needed to be saved by Kite's sacrifice and Killua's quick thinking. And there's no way to pay Kite back. Gon's whole self-image and personal code just went up in smoke. This explains his coldness afterward towards Killua. Gon can't forgive him for the rescue — he'd rather have maintained his code, by paying back Kite, by rescuing him from Pitou (though he'd certainly have died trying). And it explains his deep denial over Kite (since if Kite's still alive, that would mean Gon still has a chance to pay him back, which he desperately needs to do). It's not that Pitou hurt Kite, it's that Pitou killed Gon's concept of himself — Pitou turned Gon into a "charity case" who might never get the chance to pay back what he owes to Kite.

1999

There’s the connection between Kite and Gon’s dad so that definitely factors into why he cares so much.

hknguyen

Many people have explained why Gon acts that way in the comment section, it’s you refusing to understand the story.

ssj4rit

Probably my favorite aspect of this series is the exploration of Gon. It's very subtle and gradual, but I like how he's presented as a typical shounen protagonist with all the boilerplate traits (loyalty, over-optimism, determination, etc), but bit by bit we start to see those traits aren't necessarily commendable, if anything they can drive one to obsession and selfishness. I think the optimism part is also key here. If you see the world as bright all the time, eventually when it gets dark you don't know how to handle it. Maybe that's why Killua is always so calm, he's already been through so much abuse and trauma that these dark and complicated situations don't catch him out of his comfort zone as much as Gon.

A

still kind of sad it'll be a movie. it better be long lol

C E.

I love reading the essays; keep them coming!

Enma

As Naaman already pointed out, Kite holds a significant role for Gon as he is the closest person he knows to his father, making this relationship a big step toward Gon's overarching goal of finding Ging. Gon's character is notably characterized by his capacity to make deep connections quickly, seem at the start of each new arc or introduction of a new character. Considering these two factors, it's reasonable to understand why Gon becomes emotionally invested in Kite's fate. Beyond just giving Gon's father's background, Kite also acts as a catalyst for Gon's character growth, sparking an emotional change that shapes the course of the story. His sudden death is a turning point in the story, sending Gon to seek revenge that exposes darker sides of his nature. Kite's brief appearance heightens the impact of his role by highlighting the harsh and chaotic realities of the series. Kite's simple past may be purposefully contrasted with the complexity of the universe and unclear morals. To reiterate Naaman's point, Gon's morality has consistently been questionable, intentionally adding complexity to his character and fostering discussions about morality, the actions we take, and their consequences for future exploration. Gon exists in a moral gray area; he is neither wholly good nor bad. Remember back to the Yorknew Arc and Zepile's comment on Gon: "He doesn't care about right or wrong. He opens his mind to everything that impresses him, right or wrong. Which means that he's dangerous..." This sentiment is shown through examples like Killua killing, teaming up with Hisoka, and his interactions with the Phantom Troupe. If you are intriguing to him and/or his friend, Gon will overlook your flaws and consistently fight for you. While not inherently a bad thing, this trait is undeniably dangerous.

I think episode 116 is the perfect culmination of the relationship between Gon and Killua, and it also incidentally is a game changer for another character in this scene, Pitou. Gon is still a child, and he is very good at forming friendships very quickly. As we see throughout his journey, his morality has not fully developed, he is willing to condone questionable actions such as Killua being an assassin and a killer, or Zepile being a forger, as long as he likes these individuals. Ironically, he asks Chrollo how could he kill others not related to the troupe, and Chrollo's response is because they have nothing to do with them, in a way unknowingly reflecting Gon's morality. Kite mentions early on in the story when they fight ants and Gon comments that he has no sympathy for ants who call their comrades trash, that what would Gon do if he finds an ant that actually cares for another, just like in this episode. Now, Kite is a dear friend of Gon and whom Gon looked up to considerably, a proxy father figure, a teacher, mentor, and someone Gon deeply owed a sense of gratitude (teaching him the rules of the forest). To have someone of this stature taken away from him by brute force, is something that Gon cannot comprehend. He blames himself for being weak, grows stronger and hopes to return to fight Pitou to heal Kite. Watching Pitou heal Komugi presents a contradiction to Gon, his enemy caring for someone else. Being still very young, he is presented with the unfairness of the world, wherein Kite was snatched away from him by a monster through brute force, but when it is his turn to reciprocate using brute force, he is forced to exhibit compassion and restraint. Why should he show this courtesy to Pitou when he was denied the same by her/it?

Shiro

And then there is Killua, it is correct to say that both Gon and Killua hold each other in very high regard because they are each other's first friend. It was his devotion to Gon that enabled him to escape his brother's curse by removing the Nen needle. It is the first time Killua is seeing Gon utterly defeated and helpless, and since he, too, is a child he is unable to deal with it, for lack of experience. He is afraid to ask questions that will test the boundaries of their relationship. Being the calm and rational type, his presence is a blessing to Gon, both here as well as in episode 85, and in numerous other situations. However, since Gon is in a highly emotional state of mind, Killua's composure is not well received by him. Of course, Gon is the catalyst to Killua's actions, and Killua is here because he cares deeply for Gon. To mirror their relationship with Meruem, Komugi and Pitou, if Gon is Meruem and Kite is Komugi, then Killua is Pitou. Pitou may not care about Komugi to the same extent as Meruem, but she is prepared to risk her life to protect her. Similarly, Killua may not share as deep a bond with Kite as Gon, but his willingness to risk his own life for Kite is because how much Kite is important to Gon. That alone shows Killua's level of commitment. Unfortunately, since Gon is really emotionally charged here, he takes Killua's rational nature as his lack of concern for Kite, whereas Killua's very presence is a testament to his devotion to Gon. It is a crack in their friendship, but it has been developed so beautifully over 100 episodes.

Shiro

And lastly, there is Pitou, the sheer transformation from predator to prey is so interesting, even for Pitou herself. This situation is so new to Pitou, that even she is lost as to how to deal with it. It was in 110 when Meruem orders Pitou to monitor Komugi's surroundings and extend her protection to Komugi along with the King. However, the Dragon Dive results in injuring Komugi, which is a result of Pitou's failure (or at least that is how she would perceive it). Despite her failure, the King entrusts her with healing Komugi and now she is in a vulnerable position having to face intruders while obeying the King's direct orders. Contrast this with 85, when Pitou confidently leaps out to deal with the invaders (Kite, Gon and Killua) who are coming to destroy the nest. And now, she is forced to rely on the mercy and compassion of the same people she wronged, a tough spot to be in. I love the way she shows her emotions here, first leaping in front of Komugi like a mother cat, then with outstretched hands palms facing up, and even when that fails, she breaks her own arm, something she did to Kite when she attacked them, in effect putting her in the same position as Kite trying to protect Gon and Killua in 85, thereby forcing Gon in Pitou's position as the aggressor in episode 85. The parallels are so very interesting for all these three characters!!

Nonos

They gotta know it’s not just one piece fans bombing episodes . Obviously I’m not excusing that. Just giving context that the main catalyst of it all was aot fans that review bombed gear 5 episodes. So one piece fans retaliated and they did it big unfortunately lmao. The toxic aot vs one piece war caused most other anime’s with 9.9s to get hit with collateral damage on IMDb it’s so dumb 😂

Kyosuke Kagami

Dubbies on suicide watch after this performance tbh. If there is actually still anyone out there who thinks dub is better than sub, show them this episode.

Jed

This has to be bait... Gon's character arc has been leading to this moment since the literal first episode. His interactions with Aunt Mito in the first episode show it heavily. He states that his dad leaving is great because being a Hunter is worth leaving your child behind... His morals are out of line from what conventional reality should be. Also when he leaves Mito and they do their handshake he holds onto the thumb kiss part for an extra long amount of time showing he has the wrong sense of determination. Rather than focusing on Mito and saying goodbye during the "sad" part he focuses on the "fun" part of the interaction. The world he lives in is dark, very dark and this little kid can only hold onto the good which means he never sees the bad in what he does, only others. There's a plethora of other examples throughout the show where he takes things too far his own way rather than being rational and doing the smart thing. He's a kid in an adult world, even Wing his first mentor states that teaching Nen to people is very dangerous cause it can lead to bad circumstances very quickly. We see it happen with a lot of characters along the way, mainly villains but we are starting to see it in our protagonist which isn't a good sign. Gon is a child, he is legit only 12 here at this very moment. He shouldn't be traveling the world alone, he shouldn't even know what Nen is let alone see people be brutally murdered in front of him. He is expected to understand the harsh reality he lives in but do you expect a child to understand death and evil like an adult would? Obviously his sense of justice is going to be skewed when he always does the "right" thing in his eyes. He even asks Chrollo how the troupe can kill someone they don't know yet when he finally sees Pitou again he is ready to kill her even though he can finally have the chance to understand her in this situation. He just chooses not to because he is doing the "right" thing by trying to save his friend/mentor in his own twisted view of life.

celery

Wait is the reason why a spoiler? Cuz I wanna know the meaning but haven’t finished the arc yet

Schwifty_Ant

God tier voice acting

Nonos

Fr they weren’t moving a muscle for almost that whole confrontation 😂😂

Jed

Im lost here, ive seen this anime 8 times and I dont know what reference you're making. I know that he sits like Hisoka but who else are you talking about?

Shiro

If it is related to the amazing story and characters in HxH, then sure ;)

Pitou

Meruem, you don't need to believe me this is the first time I heard Gon was copying sitting position of Hisoka. I actually thought that everyone already knew that Gon was copying the King because Gon's the one whose becoming a monster and the King is becoming more human (They're mirroring each other). Also, during Gungi games the King sits like Gon or vice versa. You'll even see it during when the King and Netero fights. Again, you don't need to believe me.. If you think its Hisoka then its him.. You can Google now: "King Meruem Sitting" then go to images.

Ryan

Yeah, just don’t read into it until the arc is finished

Masta Jags

Y’all are goated for releasing 5 here so we could get to 116. Also if Kite dying gets Gon this worked up, imagine what Killua dying would do lol bro would blow up the earth

kai

i was gagged so bad when i first watched this like wow that was still intense

Jimmy Gilligan

Remember how innocent Gon used to be, watching this episode is like watching a completely different character

SoClose

Gon is like, a tiger, raised in a good loving family. You can pretend it's a pet, for a while. But eventually it'll grow and start acting on instinct. Mito raised the little cub well, but now that it's in the wild, it's starting to act like what it's supposed to be. This was foreshadowed by Wing, emphasized by Meleoron a few eps earlier, and even driven home later on.

Anonymous

unfortunately, the way that the 2011 anime is structured robs this scene of a lot of punch. in the 1999 anime and the manga, you meet kite in chapter 1 and he has a large impact on gon's life, which makes this scene make more sense for why he talks like that to killua. in the 2011 anime it feels like they just met unfortunately.

Jengit

As a person who has questioned Gons character developmemt, I appreciate this post because it did bring some perspective

devakira

Each time I watch this episode I want to cry, it's giving me goosebumps all over my spine ; the crazy voice acting, Gon's expressions, Killua's sadness, the music as well, ... :'(

Anonymous

in the manga gon met kite at the start of the series and they bonded. they skipped that part completely in the anime. thats what makes gon looks unrational to killua what isnt really the case

IchiGoat

gon isn’t a normal 12 year old boy . his reaction to things isn’t how a normal person would react . killua has more of an empathetic side than gon does and it’s crazy because killua is the one who was raised by a family of assassins . and we even see this prior to kites death. when killua ripped that guys heart out in the exams gon acted like he’s seen it 100 times. and even in greed island . during the volley game when he knew that killua was hurting himself in the process of him holding the volleyball but still wanted him to hold it. him breaking illumis arm aswell . honestly the list goes on but that’s why his character is so interesting because he has so many flaws and rightfully so his father who he idolises abandoned him to go out to the world of adventure and he thinks that’s a good thing . i don’t know i always thought his character was a little off.

devakira

But it also does something else for him. During the climax of the Chimera Ant arc, as Gon’s frightening rage reaches its peak, Gon says the words, “You have it easy Killua, you’re perfectly calm.” Separating himself from the boy that has done so much for him. It’s a moment that’s heartbreaking. As Killua finally begins to find light (for example his behavior towards Ikalugo the first time they met), Gon sinks into darkness and Killua can do nothing for him. What Gon said "You have it easy Killua. " "You're perfectly calm, since it means nothing to you." This is one of the worst thing, that could have been said to Killua at this point for someone who was just doing what he had always been doing, by cleaning up Gon's mess. Someone who wanted more than anything to be considered a friend and a partner, it's a dagger below. And it proves to him that he still isn't as useful as he wishes to be. No one can save Gon from himself here and that in means to Killua that he is just not good enough. This scar reopens and he is reminded of why he constantly felt the need to sacrifice himself. His narrow perspective stops him from seeing the truth of the matter. That he always been extremely important to Gon.

This clearly bait lol. I recognize this user always writing hateful comments about HxH which is hilarious because you’re still subscribed watching episodes every week as they drop it. If the story didn’t make sense to you why do you keep watching lmao

Shiro

I slightly disagree with you @alexis. I think Gon would have had a much stronger reaction had it been Killua. They hold so much importance for each other at this point, complementing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. I think Gon would have lost it and become totally insane if Killua had been the one to be killed, as there would have been no one to reign in Gon.

Colin Boehling

been waiting for this... so hype

TheHollanLegacy

It 100% did. Idk why they think it started with gear 5 lmao. FMAB fans started it all. The worst part of anime in its entirety is the fan bases. Every fan base will trash the other to inflate their egos about their own show. I'm glad you guys are able to just enjoy the shows for what they are and not force others to try and believe it's the greatest ever

Lily Winter

I do think Killua is very empathetic but how is it more so than Gon? He only really acquired that trait after observing and learning from Gon imo. I would say we see almost no one in the show as empathetic and caring about others as Gon(maybe Knuckle or Leorio), which is one of the major reasons for his emotional reaction here.

Nonos

I wasn’t going that far back cuz I know bout the toxic fmab fans. I’m just talking about recently on IMDb, if you noticed for a couple months now all the 9.9 anime episodes are almost all review bombed. This is 100% because of the one piece fans and the aot fanwar. Anime fans discovered how giving an episode 2 stars, heavily affects the rating which caused all other animes to suffer as well. Obviously there was review bombing before gear 5 but all the goated 9.9 anime episodes were bombed after gear 5 episodes were badly review bombed. Lmao I remember all of this cuz aot and one piece are my top 2 and it annoyed me how ppl would mess up deserved high rated episodes from both series. Really doesn’t even matter who started it, cuz toxic side of anime fans is stupid. Like you said, im glad the geks can just enjoy the shows for what they are.

Nonos

I really appreciate showing how opposite pitou’s character and feelings for the king are compared to pouf. Pitou genuinely will protect komugi cuz that person keeps meruem “his true self” where pouf couldn’t care less about that. Only caring about meruem being a king.

IchiGoat

gon is empathetic only to people he cares about, and even at that he would still put his feelings above others . which makes him selfish. if you’ve already watched the series then you can see there are moments were gon completely disregards killuas feelings. killua always puts gon above himself. the only reason he’s here now is because of gon. as much as i love gon , his mentality is that its his way or the high way. which makes him less empathetic than killua . i do agree in the beginning gon was more empathetic but as the series progresses killua is becoming more empathetic and gon is starting to loose his empathy.

Brittany Mitchell

You know an episode is cooking when the guys go completely silent (which I consider a good thing guys so don't think of this as criticism)!

alexis ♡︎

i definitely see what your saying and while part of me agrees, another part of me doesn’t 😭 like imagine if kite and killua switched places. i think i could see kite being able to reign in gon and remind him of the goal much like killua did. whether gon would listen or not idk but i think it’s a possibility considering kite was the closest thing gon had to a father figure due to ging’s absence. idk i definitely am not saying i’m right and you’re wrong bc either way it didn’t happen, but it’s so interesting to think about and i think it leads to a deeper understanding of gon’s character

XVII IV

about gon valuing more kite than killua, lets not forget both gon and killua are both 12yo children, of course they are gonna act weird while being emotional

Trevor

This 100%! And the context behind kites death, Gon cares so much about it because he believes kite died only because he was there with him. Which is not entirely true of course but I also can't blame Gon for feeling that way. Someone with his character would become entirely consumed by that thought

snoobcat

Carter throughout the whole episode : " WAIT HXH CAN MAKE ME FEEL THESE EMOTIONS ?! "

Joydan Bri’an

this episode is always a gut punch. killua has more experience so he can figure out what’s going on. while gon kinda always puts himself and how he feels first which makes him a bit selfish. my boy killua always puts gon above himself and for gon to say that to him ☹️. their relationship is one of the best story points for me maybe cause imma sap 😭😭

Rayanh LaNansha

and it`s exactly why I loved it. Reminded me of how I felt the very first time I saw it. I was that captivated.

Ninjinzo

you can really tell from the comments here, 116 has so much depths with the paragraphs im seeing and how they view gon's mental state rn it's amazing.

zachary schofield

Can someone explain, what they were saying about it being a 9.9 until one piece did something?

Shiro

True! Honestly, I don’t even want to think Killua taking Kite’s place. I do like Kite’s character, but Gon and Killua’s friendship is just so special!! Gon has so much trust in Killua’s strength that he wanted him to hold the ball during Razor’s dodgeball game. And Killua consoles Gon when Gon is mad that the hunter’s are talking badly about the game Ging created, or when he puts his arm over Gon’s shoulder when Gon is charging to show his Nen to Morel…. Just so many moments!! I simply love their friendship!! They fill in the gaps in each other. I think one of the reasons Gon feels so strongly about Kite is that both he and Killua think that Kite died because he tried protecting them instead of prioritizing his own safety. That guilt is perhaps what drives them to face Pitou. I don’t know if Gon has ever considered losing Killua. But if we look at his relationships, then apart from Mito San and his grandma, Killua would be the closest to his family. But anyway, mere speculation 😆

india holloman

I think you should consider that they are still young buys and while killua was raised to deal with these emotions Gon was not. That experience changed him he had never experienced that level of loss and right in his face really. Hes always the happy one cause he’s never been faced with such strong emotions. If this had happened to killua he may even reacted worse. Don’t discredit Gon he loves killua like a brother ever since the exam arc . Brothers are at odds sometimes and it’s ok. Killua gonna remain a loyal brother. Because he understands Gon the most.

Jyle

I’m guessing they were talking about how one piece fans bombed the sites leaving bad reviews which brings down the overall rating.

thegoodzz

bro we're 116 episodes in, nobody is arguing about that. Not sure anybody ever even was for this show

Dale Cooper

What the hell is going on in the comments? Are we all transcribing video essays now?

Anonymous

What are they watching this on? The subtitles on Netflix are different than what they are watching.

Nazerke K

Fun fact: Gon’s voice actor in real life: Megumi Han - cute Japanese woman

Eren Jeager

HxH chimera ant arc the champion of blue balling

ZappyZ

The funny thing is FMA fans were the most infamous about review bombing shows to keep FMA as 1st on MAL, its been going on for years. My guess is it was actually them since this came out during a peak period of those hate brigadiers lol I think there are less of them nowadays.

Jiggy

Netflix after I think the greed island arc only adopts closed caption subtitles (directly copied from the dub)

idcjayyy

The top 3 highest rated episodes are still yet to come. I also like how Carter spoke about the fact that Pitou seems more human, while Gon on the other hand seems like the monster in this case thinking very irrationally. Same goes for the King, he's gaining his humanity while Gon is becoming a monster.

idcjayyy

There are parallels that's why, I hope this isn't a spoiler towards others

Jed

I believe you I just didnt ever notice the King sits that way😂 Thats a huge detail by Togashi that I never noticed👍🏻

arcv

The juxtaposition throughout this entire arc is what makes it so good. The parallels between Gon and the King are incredible. Some of the visuals with how they sit, their contrasting dialog, etc...

Sasha

Can't even focus on the reactions since there is so much going on in the show. Gon's voice actor really snapped on this one.

ffltscat

This is actually insane. Before I watch these reaction videos I never thought anyone would bomb rate other animes just to make theirs higher ranked. Incredibly childish behaviour. I wonder if its just on anime shows.

Gabriel Machuca Wegermann

So, in other words, he IS a normal kid, with the same character flaws most boys have at that age: selfishness, narcissism (people with a narcissistic disorder are basically people that emotionally never grew past that age), trouble regulating emotions, simple mindedness, prone to agression, inconsistent morality, etc. The point is exactly that he is just a normal kid, with a still undeveloped morality system, which on top of that has lived a very isolated life in a place with a lot of nature and raised by a single mother (meaning he has more experience with the life of nature than the life of humans), and yet is then suddenly thrown in a crazy, complex world in which he experiences trauma and incredibly stressful situations yet is expected to deal with them as an adult even though, again, he is simply a kid and simply doesn't possess the tools to manage all those experiences and feelings. The difference between him and Killua is that the latter had to virtually become an adult early in life and traveled all over the world, which gives him a much mature and grounded look on reality due to simply having much more experience in the real world, while to Gon Whale Island was the only reality he knew. .I've seen many people commenting on how Gon is unhinged, "troubled", a borderline pyschopath, not normal, and as a psychology undergraduate that's craaazy to me, he is a realistic case of what an angered 12 year old could become if they had that kind of power, a lot of rage and a target as the reason of their rage.

Kimmer

I need the next couple of episodes now lol

Ramennn

Some people got mad about how Gon treated Killlua. They even compare the journey of these two compare to kite's and gon's. If that happens to killua, we both know that Gon will breakdown as well. Every person he meets matters to him. Kite's connection to his father is another reason why he respects him so much. Overall, Gon's rage is understandable. When people get mad, they sometimes blinded by their emotions. We're unreasonable human being when it comes to our loved ones, and that's reality.

Arctic_stark

I know it seems like Gon picked Kite over Killua here, but Gon would be the exact same (or worse) if it was about saving Killua. Thats just who he is. Remember the crazy stuff he was doing to get Killua back from his family early on? Gon doesn't know limits when it comes to helping his friends.

MissJodles

Gon popped OFF this episode and Killua is about to go in hard in ep 131

Sinbaddon

When Gon sitsin front of Pitou, im yet to hear anyon e realise that he sits EXACTLY how Meruem sat. The parallels between the two is all over this arc.

Isaac L

Gon doesn't think Kite is more important than Killua. He's so angry because Kite endured all that pain because of them, angry at his own powerlessness, angry at his own weakness leading to tragedy. Kite is just a trigger for him to vent his emotions. What he said to Killua was out of anger. One reason Killua left is that he didn't need to wait with him for an hour, because during that time Pitou couldn't attack without being threatening. There are also some emotional ups and downs, although Killua knows Gon's words were out of anger, but it is still hurt him.

Dakota

Man... these episode get to me more than any other. Gon is always such a happy kid, innocent and easy going. Then the stuff with Kite happens, and it breaks him. He genuinely can't reconcile the feelings within himself directed towards Pitou. I can't help but tear up a little every time it shows him upset, or really frickin pissed off. In isolation, this arc is incredible, but when you think about the journey, and how far they've come since the beginning, it only compounds the emotions you're supposed to feel. Gon is like everyone's little brother, that you just want to see happy go lucky again.

Riley

The boys are rightfully speechless

Uros Vesic

This episode goes so hard

Junkie Junk

What I enjoy about this is that it shows Gon's immaturity. He's a child who does not have a good grasp of his emotions. Most of the time, he seems to go through these intense missions like it's a game which reflects his child-like wonder. Always has this sense of "Things will work out" and never had to suffer a major loss due to his pride, ego, and arrogance. The way he's acting is very much like a child throwing a tantrum because things didn't go his way. Because is he doing all this for Kite or to satisfy himself and his guilt?
