Wow, is it just me or was this week long A-F? In either case, I'm glad we're finally here at the weekend where I... won't be going to the movies! Sorry, as stated on OSL, this Inside Out 2 is a Disney+ watch for me, and that's fine by me because it's hot as shit here in New York and I plan on just cranking the A/C and watching stuff at home. BUT! A lotta folks will be thrilled that there's another big family film ready to rock this weekend, so let's see how this goes!

At long last, there is a real smorgasbord of options for family programming at the multiplex at the moment, between IF, Garfield: The Movie, and now, yes, yet another Pixar sequel with Inside Out 2! Now, I thought the first one was pretty solid, but I really just don't put a lot of faith in Pixar sequels. We said on OSL that Toy Story seemed to be the exception with regard to sequels (although I still don't care for 4), and the second Incredibles film was entertaining, if ultimately forgettable. But the rest of the sequels (Cars 2 & 3), prequels (Monsters University), and spin-offs (Lightyear) leave much to be desired.

So here we are with Inside Out 2. Like Andy aging in the Toy Story series, Riley is now a teenager and thus, a whole new band of emotions are ushered into the... Emotions Office or whatever control room it is those colorful little freaks hang out in inside this girl's head. The flick's already scored $13M in Thursday night previews and by some forecasts, it's set to be the first $100M debut of 2024. Internationally, it's already been out for two days and has grossed $22.3M from those selected markets. Safe to say, there's an audience ready for this movie and that's thrilling, frankly. No sarcasm there, gang, I'm legit glad people are going to the movies!

Which brings us to our poll this week. Where do we think this thing's landing when the dust settles on Sunday night? Vote below with what range you think the film's ultimate first weekend take will be and we'll suss it all out Monday morning during On-Screen Live!

Have a great weekend, y'all. Stay cool, stay safe, try and take it easy. - Andrew

No doubt it hits $120 million this weekend. Follow-up to a hit and heat wave across the country and great reviews and WOM.

As far as CGI animated family programming goes, this is a definite "watch Ultraman Rising on Netflix" weekend instead of going to the theater for Disney. That being said, I assume it'll be a hit of at least $85 mil - $100 mill.

I went yesterday and there was a decent crowd for an IMAX screening, so I'm gonna say it goes big.

Frank Grimes

Saw it yesterday...while I thought it was good, it wasn't as good as the first. My nephew liked it, he's almost Riley's age. I don't think it'll git over 85m it's weekend out

What is the endgame for the Inside Out franchise? If we follow this kid into her 30's, it will no doubt end with her having living in a padded cell after a complete mental breakdown.

Inside Out 3: Dawn of the SSRI Inside Our 4: Therapist Strikes Back

Never underestimate summer animated family movies. 120+

My 5 year old has been counting down the days until Inside Out 2 comes out. I can't imagine he's the only one, so I imagine this one is going to do big numbers

Derrick Affolder

I'm going with the moderate scale of 85-100. That first one is one of the best Pixar movies ever made and I'm sure people will be going to see it, but it's also family vacation time, so I don't know about this thing blowing the roof off. I think it looks "cute" but definitely not as good as the first one. My stepdaughter is also 17 and driving now, so she doesn't care, so I may be out of touch

Kureigu

It will do well I'd bet

This is a total Disney + watch for me as well. I’m curious but not curious enough to see it in theaters while a bunch of people talk through it, or pull a parrot person (repeat a funny line from the movie out loud to seem original). Also, this has open mic theater comedians written all over it.

Les Whinen

Kids movies seem to be the only movies people are coming out for. I hear Kung fu panda 4 is a juggernaut

Sarah Montgomery

How many parents wouldn't pay $30+ to avoid their kid(s) screaming at them for the two months before the film is available for (infinite) home streaming?

Paul

Sorry haters, but Disney-Pixar’s back in the win column.

Pete

$155 million!!! I was way off 😂
