Chapter 176: Kraken

"Nami, while you were giving all that explanation, it seems like we have reached this current thingy.” Said Vivi.

“Really?, and don't call it current thingy!” Nami got to the rails of the ship to take a better look.

“Oh!, I want to see this mystery current too!” Luffy and others ran to the front of the ship.

“Let's see what it looks like!”

The crew saw what was ahead of them and became a bit paler.

“That's a current?...that looks more like a…” Sanji started.

“A giant waterfall.” Robin ended the sentence.

Ahead of the Sunny was something that it looks like a colossal waterfall, leading into an empty dark void.

“Now way!, we are not going there, right?!” Buggy exclaimed.

“That looks like fun!” Luffy smiled.

“That water is falling to the sea bottom, forming like a giant road.” Said Vivi.

“That's right, is great isn't it?” Commented Nami, not looking worried at all.

“Incredible, the sheer magnitude of the flow is breathtaking.” Said Robin.

“You can't even see the bottom!, is just pitch black!” Usopp said with horror.

“Is okay, the Sunny has an illumination system that works with cola.” Explained Franky.

“That's not what we are worried about!” Both Usopp and Buggy shouted at the same time.

“Huh?, there is something big down there.” Vivi noticed now. She doesn't have her haki active at all times but if a big aura gets close enough, she will immediately notice.

“What is that monster doing there?!” Buggy shouted.

They were all able to see it now. From the bottom of the sea, a giant creature was emerging. It was like an octopus, but thousands of times bigger.

“Its the Kraken!” Screamed Usopp.

“Look at its tentacles!, there are several ships being crushed.” Chopper pointed out.

“He must be like some sort of guardsman for the sea floor.” Commented Robin.

“Let's turn back!, that monster is going to eat us all!” Suggested Buggy.

“Actually, I just had a great idea!. Let's make it our pet!.” Luffy said with a smile.

“What are you talking about, Luffy? Our pet?” Complained Zoro.

“Yeah, we can tame him and have him pull our ship.” Suggested Luffy.

“Mmm, that should save us time.” Vivi thought out loud.

“Look at that thing!. It's massive!, how are you going to tame it?” Cried Usopp.

“That creature must have been alive for thousands of years. A legendary monster….” Said Buggy.

“The boneless beast….the bodiless bones…that creature is like an antithesis of myself,” Brook concluded.

“Who cares!. Stop getting poetic now!” Usopp shouted. “I can't believe that I and the clown are the only ones with a reasonable mind. We should get out of here!.”

Robin started to make a drawing of the octopus.

“Wow, you are really good.” Observed Franky.

“How are you so relaxed?!” Chopper was shocked.

“So…” Zoro looked at his Captain. “Do you have a plan to tame it?”

“Are you guys actually going to do that?” Asked Buggy with worry.

“The problem is that we are underwater…” Luffy considered with a serious expression.

“No no…the problem is the size of that thing, is like a thousand times bigger than our ship. It could crush us even if we were out of the water” Ussop got close to Luffy in order to plead with him.

“Let's just go in a different route or something!.”

“Maybe we should after all…” Nami was starting to doubt the safety of the situation as well.

“We are here to protect you, there is nothing to fear.” Sanji tried to reassure her.

“It doesn't really matter anymore. Taking a different course is not an option anymore.” Said Vivi.

“What do you mean?...ahh!!” Buggy screamed in horror as a colossal tentacle appeared in front of their ship, ready to grab it and crush it under its great power.

“It's already here!” Shouted Chopper.

Vivi used her reserves to create a big mass of water. By compressing the water, she is now able to store an amount of liquid, hundreds of times her body size.

“Model 9…”

The shapeless mass of water took the shape of a huge cannon, three meters long (10 feet), and had a 200 mm caliber barrel (7.8 inches).

“B.F.G…”

“Where did that cannon come from?!” Buggy took a step away from Vivi.

The weapon was basically an upscaled version of her ‘Model 1: Blunderbus’. And it was designed to take down the biggest and toughest inhabitants of Fire Island. Or maybe something much bigger than that, who knows?

She moved the cannon with no visible effort on her part and aimed at the tentacle in front of them.

The shot did not make as much noise as they expected but left a big hole in the bubble.

It then impacted the tentacle and did not seem to do much at first, but then, the shell blew up, creating a big underwater explosion that separated the tentacle into two and made the Kraken stop in his advance.

“Hey!, don't break the tentacles, I want it whole!” Complained Luffy.

“That seems like an unreasonable request, Captain…” She could not think of anything in her arsenal to take something this big without breaking it apart.

“Franky, can't we just use the  ‘Coup de burst’ to get away from here and into a different route?” Asked Nami.

Franky looked at her.

“No…I considered it, but those things use a great amount of air. If we are to use it here, where we have a limited amount of it…it could shrink the bubble and kill us.”

“I’m sure we can reason with him!. And we are not running away” Said Luffy.

“Well…start reasoning then…” Sanji pointed forward. 

A very angry Kraken was now staring down at their ship.
