Hi Folks,

Just a quick note to let you know that there will be no Patreon charge from me this month. Work continues on all fronts: Antikythera, prototyping for next projects, dev work for the new platform, and learning of some new-to-me techniques (including the attached 'sprue art'!)

As for previous payment pauses, nothing changes from your perspective, and as always I am contactable by all the usual methods if you'd like to say G'day :)

Yes, this one is brass, but I have been testing out the new shop made vacuum casting setup with brass, bronze and sterling silver. So far its working well, I will cover it in the next TGT.

It's always great to get an update! As a patron, I'll say again that I wouldn't mind if you continued charging even if there isn't a video this month. I'm here to support your great work, not just purchase videos! I'm sure that we'll get to see the results of your labor and research when it's ready.

Your videos, the content, production quality, the passion, is unequalled in any other channel that I watch. I look forward to your next production content as I always do. As a side note: I have been asked about the framed brass engraved piece I have framed from you on my shelf. I have to tell your story and share your content. I hope I am leading them in the direction of subscribers and/or Patreon members.

We're here to support you, not employ you. The charge shouldn't stop because you feel like you didn't bring enough value to the viewers and supporters and while we appreciate it, it's better for it to continue if it leads to more content in the future.

Hello Chris, hope you are well on the way to being fully fit now. You really don't need to suspend payments, especially when you are working on project behind the scenes. Speaking as a new guy here (new also to metal work) I am getting a huge amount of enjoyment information and inspritation from your videos. As learning exercises, I have made your scriber, gyroscope (Christmas present for my partner) and have just finished the finger plate clamping tool. my ultimate goal is set on clock making, and in particular supplying a missing tune barrel to a 6 tune musical clock which will take some precision!!!! In the meantime the smaller project are really helping me get aquainted with the lather, milling machine and processes and the things I have made have turned out reasonably presentable thanks to you clear intructionand advice. Big thank you!

Same as others, I see Patreon as a platform for, well, patronage. To support artists and creators who are prolific and should get as much free time as possible so that they can create, learn and invent and contribute to society that way. Time off to take a break and rebuild stamina, or for health reasons (including mental health), and time spent on learning and thinking instead of creating are normal and necessary parts of an artist/creator's life. Patreon allows us to support you over the long term without focusing on monthly output. I wish there was a checkbox to say "I intend to support this person for the next 10 years. I give this creator free reign and will support them regardless of how regularly they publish updates, and regardless of the topics on which they work; if Clickspring drops metalworking and changes their focus to biology, I am sure they would in time bring valuable contributions to humanity, and would not withdraw my support.". Truth is, I don't even follow regularly the work of most people I support, because I'm busy. I can spend a year or more without keeping tabs on a creator, and at some point binge-read or binge-watch what the person did in the meantime.

Guess we’ll need to file a feature request with Patreon because of this humble specimen of a creator. There needs to be a way to not allow him the suspension of payments. My support for Chris is absolutely unconditional and non transactional. You have absolute free reign what to do with the money I send, do what makes you happy, because that makes me happy. Let it unleash creativity, just your plain freedom or a beer. Whatever you choose to do, it’s the right thing :). Take care!

Well, I see what you're saying and I know that you're joking to an extent. But imagine it from the creators point of view, if you haven't produced anything that you feel is worthy of payment, then receiving payment is not going to be good for your mental wellbeing. It would be like a form of imposter syndrome almost, having to reconcile the feelings of taking money you don't feel you've earned with people's willingness to support you regardless.

I am in no way joking, except for the forcing him to take our money part. From my point of view Chris' contributions to the understanding of ancient engineering and craftsmanship has already granted him a pension from society, even if he would from now on chill on his porch. Prototyping, eh? Y'know, those are some of the most interesting parts of the design process. Even though you usually (always, AFAICT) produce highly-polished videos of the final result, I learn at least as much from the design/test/refine/iterate cycle.

Yes agreed, and this last few months has been pretty much exactly that. I'm covering a tremendous amount of new (to me) ground at the moment. One way or another, the most useful info always makes its way into the videos - Cheers :)

The other day I saw a clock that didn't have a pendulum but had 3 spinning balls that wound up and released. Found out they're called torsion pendulum clocks. Have you ever thought about building one of those?

Hi Chris, this might be a little off topic, but Martin (Wintergatan) has been working on his marble machine X for a while, and he's considering building an escapement mechanism similar to what most clocks use. Perhaps you could help him with that endeavor. I'm pretty sure both the audience in your channel and in his channel would cherish the collaboration. Chris- have you tried omitting the 'worst' measurements and fudging a few distances between holes (perhaps to adjust for warping and splitting during corrosion undersea) to get an even better fit for the lunar calendar hypothesis? Not that you must publish such results as that would be construed as p-hacking by most... but just to confirm.
