I love this technique. YES it's intense and YES it's effective. This one is not for everybody, because if rolling your glutes on a foam roller feels sensational enough for you, that's where you should stay.

Why do we even roll the glutes? SO important, I'm so glad you asked. ;)

The glutes are a huge support system for our posterior chain, which basically means they have a massive role in holding us upright. When our glutes are over-tight either from too much or too little use, they don't work as efficiently as they need to in order to hold us up. So, our neighboring muscle groups have to take over their job and will end up getting taxed as well. It's called compensation.

That's right, your low back is gonna start quiet-quitting on you when it's doing the job of your glutes.
