Hey guys!

The puppies are here, and they are eager to help you out with your Anki reviews!

Attached below is the installation file for Puppy Reinforcement v1.0.0-beta.2. For more information on this release and some shiny GIFs please see the release announcement post.

Requirements

Puppy Reinforcement should work on Anki 2.1.10 and up, however, as usual, I recommend upgrading to the latest Anki version to get the best experience.

IMPORTANT: Before upgrading Anki please make sure to update all your add-ons by going to Tools → Add-ons → Check for Updates. Some third-party add-ons like Night Mode or Enhance Main Window will not work properly on newer Anki releases if they are not updated.

IMPORTANT: If you've installed an earlier version of BetterTags or Visual Feedback, please make sure to update them to the latest release. Earlier versions (than the ones released last week) might not be compatible with Puppy Reinforcement

Installation

Please drag and drop the downloaded .ankiaddon file onto the Add-ons window, as showcased in this video:

If you are already on a newer Anki release, then you can alternatively also just double-click on the downloaded .ankiaddon file to install it.

Adding Custom Images

You can add your own images to the add-on by heading to Tools → Add-ons, select "Puppy Reinforcement", and then click on "View Files". A file manager window should pop up and in the list of files and  folders you should see a "user_files" folder. Please place your custom images into that folder and then restart Anki. You should now be able to see your custom images (alongside the default images) during your reviews.

If you want to completely disable the default images you can do so by heading to Tools → Add-ons, select "Puppy Reinforcement", and then click on "Config". In the configuration window, find the "disable_default_images" option and set it to "true". Then restart Anki.

Please note that only files placed in the "user_files" directory will persist across add-on updates. If you modify the default "images" directory which is next to it, your changes will be overwritten the next time you update Puppy Reinforcement.

Enabling Puppies while Adding Cards

You can enable the add-on for adding cards by heading to the add-on's configuration window (under Tools → Add-ons → Puppy Reinforcement → Config", and then changing "count_adding" from "false" to "true". The changes will apply after restarting Anki.

Full Release Notes

Added

  • Anki 2.1 compatibility (thanks to @zjosua for his help with this!, #77)
  • Optional support for showing puppies while creating new cards. Controlled by the count_adding option in the settings (thanks to @zjosua for the implementation and /u/xTheKezio / @ijgnd for the idea, #12)
  • Support for more image file types and case-insensitive file extension detection
  • A more advanced randomization approach that spreads the chances of particular images being drawn up evenly (#8)

Fixed

  • Added workaround for add-on import bug present in Anki versions <= 2.1.14
  • Print "card" instead of "cards" if count singular

Changed

  • Rewrote large parts of the add-on, making it a lot more maintainable for the future
  • Dropped Anki 2.0 support (legacy versions remain downloadable on AnkiWeb / GitHub)
  • Added support for the new add-on hooks system that will be introduced with the upcoming Anki 2.1.20 release. This should make the add-on fairly future-proof.

=======================

If you run into any issues whatsoever please do let me know. Very much looking forward to your feedback!

Thanks again for all of your guys' support in making this add-on a reality!

You can actually customize the pictures to make a kitty version for yourself! I love Huskies so I made mine all pictures of Huskies :) You'll find the image folder at a location similar to the following for Windows: C:\Users\[insert username]\AppData\Roaming\Anki2\addons21\puppy_reinforcement\images

Hi Glutanimate, how can I disable pop ups whilst reviewing and keeping them only on for adding new cards? Thanks!

Alex

I think you can customize this in settings. Also, never say thanks in advance, nobody will answer your question anyway
