Hi all!

Well, it took them a while to get here (their itty bitty legs are just too small!), but I'm happy to say that our puppies have finally arrived in 2.1 land: Meet Puppy Reinforcement v1.0.0, the latest and greatest in puppy technology!

For those of you who don't know, Puppy Reinforcement is a fun little add-on that gamifies Anki by popping up cute pics of puppies with encouraging messages throughout your reviews. The puppies appear in a somewhat random fashion which can be beneficial in the spirit of intermittent positive reinforcement.

Aside from 2.1 support, this latest version of Puppy Reinforcement also comes with the following nifty updates:

  • An option to also have puppies pop up while adding cards
  • A more sophisticated randomization approach that ensures that you almost never see the same picture twice in a row
  • Support for adding custom pictures via a user_files folder in the add-on's directory
  • And a lot more under-the-hood fixes & improvements

For a full list of changes and more details on the new options, please see the download post that should be coming up in a second for everyone at the add-on aficionado tier and up.

Just like with Visual Feedback, Puppy Reinforcement v1.0.0-beta.1 will remain a Patreon exclusive for a small bit (how long depends on the number of things to fix) and be published to AnkiWeb after that.

Next up in this series of Anki 2.1 ports will be External Note Editor for the Browser, which should be ready next week.

Enjoy your puppies, and as always good luck with your studies!

Very nice! Thank you also for the Wikipedia link!! I posted the following under the Visual Feedback post. I'm just gonna leave it here too for other readers (not to annoy you): NPR Hidden Brain made a very recent episode about conditioning and learning: https://www.npr.org/2020/02/03/802422904/when-things-click-the-power-of-judgment-free-learning It reminded me instantly of this add-on and might inspire you to include audio effects. Also, there is lovac42's add-on which already has audio: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/2073603704

2023-01-22 23:21:30 Hey qubrganor! Sorry for taking so long to respond. Releasing the Hitmarkers add-on recently (https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1776869150) made me think back to your post. Thanks again for sharing the podcast, that was a super interesting listen! Since the Hitmarkers add-on has been received well, I'll likely be adding (optional) sound feedback to Visual Feedback & Puppy Reinforcement in the future as well. Thanks again for giving me the impetus to give this a go!
