I won't know how much this helped me until I get into Southern Cross but I am positive it DID help!

Great to see the old gang one last time!

Best day ever! You did The Sentinels, AND you did Starblazers 2199! I look forward to Saturday mornings every week now, just like when I was a kid, thanks to you!

Really enjoyed this one! So in the actual three episode cut, the scenes are in a completely different order and the flow and continuity is much better. The Sentinels story was finished in novel form, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It actually runs in parallel to the rest of the TV series, and finishes with the same event with which the TV series finishes. Baker, Penn, and Edwards were originally intended to be three characters from Robotech: The Untold Story (the movie), but it was moved in the timeline to take place between The Sentinels and Southern Cross, so that would no longer work and their names were changed. Vince is Vince Grant, Claudia's brother. In the novels, if I recall correctly, he was on the SDF-1 the whole time, but just offscreen. Bowie who was hanging out with him, is Bowie Grant, his son with his wife Jean, making Bowie Grant the nephew of Claudia Grant. Janice, Minmei's singing partner, is an android. Johnathan Wolff is maybe my favourite character in the whole franchise. You'll see all these folks again when you watch Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles after the series ends (it runs in parallel with the finale, but from the perspective of this group of characters), and there were also a few characters that you'll see through the series.

Well, fudge Greg. Now that you made mention of 80's aerobatics music, I'll never be free of the image of Richard Simmons or Jane Fonda dancing to the theme music. LOL Now that you made the logical leap from Richard to Dick. I'm reminded of the old joke. "Open the door Richard, but don't slam it on my ....!" Greg's humorous commentary always brings extra life to his reactions. Thanks.

Yeah, they couldn't use stuff directly from Macross. No one cared about Masters and Next Generation. What you saw was a ton of stuff that'll be used later on. Like the Alpha / Beta Veritechs, that aren't ready yet. (They're still being prototyped here) Sentinels was going to be 65 episodes and span across all three wars. It was to show Dana growing up and lead into the Second war and the Birth of the main Character of the third war and his service under Rick in space before being sent to the third conflict. It was going to stitch all three series together much more tightly. Unfortunately mid production Japan hit a recession and the series was canceled and what was complete was spliced into this film. So instead of a 65 episode series that knitted all of Robotech together, we got a film that only taped Macross and The Masters.

Damn lol, I should almost apologize. I haven't seen this in maybe 15 years. Rewatching it I realized this doesn't just explain the Characters of the first war, this explains characters and events from all three wars! Everything here will be shown to be important with time. This was made years after the original series had concluded and apparently was made with the expectation you've completed the series. This mentions the Invid King and Queen, Flower of Life, Tirol, and many characters that will become important etc. So, it's good you watched this as this is chronology correct, but it's almost worth rewatching when you complete the series. A lot of the stuff that isn't just Rick and Lisa will make a ton more sense. If you rewatch this at the end you're going to be beside yourself pointing out and spotting all these (soon to be) important people. Also, Janice FYI was the Girl Minmei beat in the Pagent. She's the Star on the SDF-1 that Minmei usurped. Minmei will end up in a failed relationship with Col. Jonathan Wolfe during the expedition. (The guy with the Mustache at the end who walks up to her and Janice) He's a War hero of the first war, will go on to be a War hero on Tirol, and come to fight in the third Robotech War later where he'll be a living legend by then.

Wow! Will be fun to see your reaction. This will have an interesting effect on the arc of your Robotech journey as we originally did not get this story in any form - The well done Comic books, the novels, or the animated adaptation - until well after the original series had been off the air for a hot minute. The transitional material that did come out right after the original broadcast of Macross Saga was Robotech the Movie, which was in theaters - or at least a theater - all be it very briefly and for most of us it was more the stuff of Star Wars Holiday Special back room tape trader legends than a part of our Robotech experience. Of course - if you want to see the remastered version of Robotech the Movie in all it's glory the internet has made that possible too.

This animation answers some questions that for original Robotech viewers were huge unanswered elephants in the room during our initial Southern Cross and Mospeada viewing experiences. We even read 12 normal 'adult' sized and written Robotech novels before we started to get real answers to the question of whatever happened to Rick, Lisa, and Co.

Sentinel's was not originally meant to 'bridge the gap' into Southern Cross. It came about after the property had been dormant for a while. If you know anything about the development of Star Trek: Phase II, it's much more that type of scenario. Sentinel's was meant to be a complete new series as a sequel to the entire 85 episode run of Robotech. Rather than tell the story of what occurred between Macross and Southern Cross, it was mostly going to tell the story of what was happening off world during Southen Cross and Mospeada, as those chapters of Robotech still take place on earth. Spending it's pilot episodes catching us up with Rick, Lisa, and Co, was just necessary to get us from where we left them until the point where they launch away from earth onboard the SDF-3. Robotech the movie takes place after the events of the Sentinel 's pilot and shortly before the events of Southern Cross.

Shadow Wars also was created much after the fact and retroactively inserted to the time line.
