I don't think the "resentment" theory was meant to be taken seriously. They were trying to justify Scotty's ... activity ... as psychologically necessary, tongue-in-cheek.

I wouldn't say this episode was ever in my top 20. But I always enjoyed it. I consider it a slow burn mystery/thriller that then tries to jump gear to be at best a scary Halloween Haunted house, or in this case a haunted ship, episode. Still I thought it was clever to bring Jack the Ripper is an alien into the mix. Still it makes you wonder how this creature got to Earth in the first place. Ancient aliens? Another case of a 'The Thing' were it's ship crashed into Earth long ago?
