Arbiter - Monthly Recap - June 2020 (Patreon)

Hello my friends! I hope you're all doing well, keeping healthy, and enjoying some nice family time on this patriotic week of ours. I return to you on this great Thursday afternoon to say OH MY GOD THE GREAT CHARACTER MODELING ARC IS ALMOST OVER!!!

I am now pretty much done all of the game's character models. There's a few more I have to make for cutscene specific events, but I'll be doing those later as they're much lower priority. I also went ahead and did all the revisions for the earlier character models I made since I found myself improving throughout the process.

With that, the only one left is our little Ashe boy. I saved him for last so that I could funnel ALL of the lessons learned in the past six months into making his model (as the main character for Arbiter) the best it could possibly be. For the most part I'm just tweaking his older model since its held up pretty well, but I'll be fully redoing stuff like his hair, face, and overall proportions. 

I expect Ashe to be done by the end of next week, and then I'll probably have to spend another week fixing up his animations for the improved rig. I say "another week" but that process can be pretty unpredictable, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I'm kind of rigging him with the intent to make it as easy as possible to transfer his animations over, but as any gamedev knows, intent != reality. Still, I'm not too worried 🤞

That's where we're at! After Ashe I'll most likely be moving onto bosses, but depending on where I'm at with some concept art, I may start on Ashe's transformations instead. Having just updated his model and rig, I'd be in a good place to work on the different variants his transformations require (plus I'm eager to get back to some gameplay stuff). 

I'm also considering posting some more combat videos even though I don't have anything exactly "new" to show. That said, I'm gonna wait until Ashe's new model is in-game as I think that'll be a good an excuse to start showing off again. I probably won't be revealing any other characters until they're fully animated/in-game though, so please stay patient!

Lastly, you'll notice I've attached a little silhouette of all the other characters. This is mostly just for the folks in the discord who are more familiar with the game's characters, but I thought it'd be fun to see who you guys think is who (though I will neither confirm nor deny these claims...).
