Rhaenys killing all those civilians was so jarring. It was clearly intended as a “badass” moment, but instead it just made her look like an asshole. I’m not a big fan of how they’re portraying the women on this show. The showrunners said early on that they would be taking the critiques of GOT into account, but now it looks like their way of doing that (aside from reducing the amount of sexual assault, which is a welcome change) is by turning all the female characters into victims with little agency. Alicent is now a fallen angel who only wants to honor her dying husband's wishes and had no idea that her father was planning a coup. Rhaenyra's greatest sins, like ordering Vaemond's death, have been given to Daemon while she stands around looking passively concerned. And Mysaria, who’s known in the books as "Lady Misery,” has been transformed into a social reformer working to end childhood suffering. I can’t help but think this has more to do with the showrunners desperately trying to avoid the criticism that plagued GOT/D&D than it does about improving the story.
