Been busy with real life this week. Now I'm going to implement PNG file support in Retroquad, which will help to make screenshots and external source textures easier to preview and to upload to the web.

For the next couple weeks I'll be re-examining the current status of Retroquad and laying out detailed plans for 2022.

A few quick random notes from the top of my mind:

  • I'll soon be trying out a compression algorithm to reduce the filesize of FWQ textures.
  • Most of the remaining renderer crashes comes from ancient versions that were developed before the 0.1.0 release. I've got source backups of several of those old builds, but it will take a while to build and test them all to try to find where those bugs were introduced.
  • The plans for 2022 will be focused on features essential for creating an original game using Retroquad. So, features such as OGG music support won't be on the list because while they give more compatibility with Quake assets, they're not essential for creating original games (the MP3 music support works just fine for that).
