'Here endeth the lesson' is a Spike quote from Fool for Love. In that episode Spike tells Buffy of the previous Slayers he killed as she wants to learn more about what being a Slayer is/means. The fact that straight after this they cut to her saving Spike is the more obvious connection.

Is the rest of the Stargate address on Spikes back? I didn't see!

I do agree that the dialogue/pep talks in this episode can be a bit over the top, but it was true that the potentials needed to see a win to boost morale. At least we know the turok han can indeed be killed. Still, not an easy takedown for Buffy, and she's the only actual slayer there. I actually think it would have been a nice touch to have Xander play a role here. Obviously we're near the end of the show, and while Xander has gotten to be a competent fighter over the years, he never got an actual power buff like the others. Willow and Tara were witches, Buffy obviously is the slayer, Angel and Spike are vampires, Oz was a werewolf(even if that was more a liability than a help), Cordelia became part demon on Angel, Riley was part of a super soldier program, and even Giles got into the magic pretty good. Xander can stake a regular vampire, he can help, but he never really came clutch in the face of real physical threats. Obviously Buffy needed to take down the uber vamp to restore faith in herself, as well as inspire the potentials, but I think it would have been great if right as Buffy is finishing her speech after killing the turok han, another one shows up. At this point you're wandering if she has it in her to take on another one after the beating she took taking down the first one. Right then Xander steps in with the backup plan he'd been cooking up on the side ever since they first ran into this thing; a makeshift flamethrower he rigged up with construction supplies (a diesel canister, some compressed air, a propane torch) and just burns the thing to the ground. This would also show the potentials that there's more than one way to skin a cat(stake a vamp?) by doing an end run around super powers and magic and just being smart about it. This close to the end of the series, I'd like to have seen Xander really be a key player in that kind of situation. One thing that bothers me though. The First can only project a non corporeal projection of someone who's dead. Did nobody so much as touch "Eve" at any point? She/it shouldn't have been able to even pick up anything. And if they're concerned about any of the others being projections, I mean just go give everyone a poke in the shoulder or something. Throw a spoon at them. Pretty simple thing to test. Also they established that the First can only impersonate dead people, and apparently that still covers Buffy. I mean it makes sense, but still kinda creepy.

I'm playing catch-up on reactions, was out of town for a week. So the biggest thing in this episode is the lore IMO, we learned that the act of bringing Buffy back to life has created an opportunity for the first evil to make its move. And if you think about it, Buffy has actually died and come back to life twice, and created an unprecedented event where there are 2 slayers alive at the same time. This all made it so the first can work its way in there. Now we know why this is happening now. We also learned that the first can only appear as dead people, hence why it can appear as Buffy, which is creepy. We also know it can't touch anything. I'm so glad they finally acknowledged Faith, even if they didn't name her, cause once again I have to emphasize, the slayer line lies with her NOT Buffy. Faith has to die for the next slayer to activate, NOT Buffy!!!!! That's something someone might want to tell these girls, heh. Also, we don't exactly know what makes a person a "potential" only that a coven can "detect" them, I'm guessing by magic. But what makes them different, that's a big question mark. Jonathan has done a big about-face for sure, he's the good guy now? Also, did you not notice Felicia Day as one of the potentials?
