Oh hey look it's our girl Lieutenant James from SGU as one of Lucius's wives. How about that. 🕵️‍♀️

Sad to see the fall of a linguist. After failing to translate the cartouche over the Earth Stargate properly, that poor doctor somehow found an incredible power source years before anyone else, along with an eight symbol address long before anyone knew what they did, snuck through the gate to a different galaxy, and made a new life for himself in which he made up for his shortcomings by using his rudimentary biology skills (obtained from when his university inexplicably made him take courses in the subject, since they always make you take ones that have nothing to do with your major) to make a potion that made everyone love him. And over time, his exposure to the substance made him forget his life on Earth ever happened. All because some joke-of-the-community archaeologist could translate Egyptian better than him. Tragic.

Oh this is going to be good, Lucius is a guilty pleasure ❤️❤️❤️😉

I don't think you noticed that Lucious is played by Richard Kind, who was in the original Star Gate movie playing one of the scientists, Gary Meyers. When this episode of SGA aired, it was big news that he'd be making a guest appearance on the show, which was very special to have a cast member from the movie on the TV show. That said, I did not like the role they gave him, I wish it had been a different role, instead of this Lucious character. I wish it had been like a scientist from Earth or some other kind of serious role. But that's just me. Also, this is the first mention of an Intergalactic Bridge, connecting the Milky Way Galaxy gate system to the Pegasus Galaxy Gate System. Remember, they are different gates, in separate galaxies. It's so cool that they talk about bridging through the gap of space between galaxies, we are talking vast distances here, but it's so cool to see this kind of science and technology thinking. It has so many benefits, like not taxing the ZPM and allowing people from Earth to get to Atlantis quickly. A little surprised you didn't catch on about the cold being the thing why Shep didn't get it, they were really throwing it out there pretty hard laying it on pretty thick mentioning the cold a lot, it's the only thing that set him apart from everyone else. /shrug

Very good light episode. Lucius is adorable...despite 6 wives.

Sooooo Lucius raped those women with space weed right

(Looong sigh) OK, this episode can seem fun and harmless on the surface, but it really is seriously messed up the more you think about it. If this were made today, it would probably have gotten a few people cancelled. It's actually pretty apt that you compared the effect to that of Purple Man in Jessica Jones. Kilgrave is clearly a villain for controlling people the way he does, and while Lucius is not overtly cruel like Kilgrave, he's entirely self absorbed to the point of sending a team to a wraith occupied planet(that they could well have died on) for no reason other than to allow him to maintain control. He knowingly uses a drug that essentially makes people enslaved to him as a result. Even as McKay said he was held down by Ronon until Lucius could work his mojo. I suppose you could compare what Lucius did to what Jonathan did in that one Buffy episode, but even that case wasn't as bad. The reality bending spell was cheating but actually made Jonathan legitimately badass. Like he was basically 007. Lucius was just a baker(no offense to bakers) who people ignored. The drug didn't change that, he didn't gain new skills, he didn't protect or provide for the village. He just used them for personal benefit. The fact that all his wives left after getting the antidote make it hard to see what he did as anything short of rape. Especially since the drug is powerful enough to turn people against their friends to the point of violence. I mean even Maybourne making himself kind and having multiple wives is a completely different scenario. Sure, he finessed the village, but he also provided legitimate benefit in terms of technical innovations and setting up a legal framework, as well as helping defend them from Ares. Moreover he didn't need mind altering drugs to get women to marry him. I'm just gonna say it, this to me is the worst SGA episode. Granted there are others that are pretty bad(especially early in S1), but none of them make me feel like I need a shower after.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Yeah - I really hope he didn't get anywhere physical with any of the Atlantis women, but I feel like if he had, they wouldn't have let him go back to be judged by his own village and instead would have been much more harsh on him? I hope?

Ignoring the snowflakes complaining about this episode for all the wrong reasons - this is definitely one of the crappier episodes of the series. It's a lame story, I hate the guest star as an actor and his character is even more annoying. They should retitle this episode: "Magical car salesman with down syndrome takes over atlantis"

Scarlett Monrow

A nice, fun episode. Lucius, despite his failings, is funny and somewhat adorable. And I can't believe that all that plant would be destroyed on Atlantis and not studied and send to Earth. It's pretty obvious when someone is under the influence, so chances of misuse on Earth is not high (especially with an antidote available). I just wonder what the plant could be used for, medicinally. Antisocial disorder?

It's really a pretty dark episode between the roofie rapes and the gate pilfering, but I gotta admit it's still one of my favourites. It's really funny to see everyone act so out of character, and the scene between John and Backett in the jumper had me in tears.

Avlin Ærbødig

a problem of this episode amongst others is the total unrealistic military. such ridiculous security risks. it would be more realistic to see the occational genocide and civilian extermination compared to such ridiculousness.
