I've been looking forward to this one! I'm friends with the lady who plays Tanis (Sarah Deakins... she baked me cookies once, no big deal) and, when I was given the chance to write official novels for the series, MGM let me bring her character back for some more fun shenanigans. (Michael: DON'T look up my novels! Even the covers would be considered spoilery for certain things. Everyone else, hey go nuts :D).

Am I the only one who is having this issue? Every time a video from Fail goes up, the Google Drive version is still processing. And not just immediately after, I just tried to pull up the last episode, and it’s still processing. I’ve been forced to watch them all on Dropbox, which sucks because it doesn’t have any quick controls. I’ve been having that problem for almost a season now, with pretty much every single video.

Ragnarok

Makes sense. Thanks. Have we had any explanation why it's happening?

Erin Ragsdale

I'm actually going through and reading the Stargate novels!!!!! I've bought them all. I'm reading them not in publishing order, but by season based in. I'm enjoying them so far, look forward to yours! They are actually some of the ones I've been excited to get to!

Timothy Nikiforovs

it just takes time for the videos to process. You'll often see only lower resolutions available at first until the higher res vids upload. I don't know all the technicals, but it's pretty common on video hosting services. Guess dropbox just has faster servers.

Geonn Cannon

I hope you like them! I wrote mine so you could read them by themselves, but reading in order definitely enhances the second one a little bit. ;)

Ragnarok

No, I know how all that works, quite well actually, I’m an editor. What I mean is, they’ll still be processing if I visit them a month later. Been happening a lot, lately specifically, and was trying to bring attention to it if it’s a problem with his Drive, or get an explanation if it’s already known. Thank you though.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Oh, I see what you mean. Dunno, I'm still seeing the last one as processing, but the buffy reaction before that is loading. Is there a set bandwidth usage that he's exceeding on google drive? Honestly you'd probably know better than me.

Torbrevelk

I think that's just how it works with hour long videos, but I've gotten into the habit of downloading them anyway, for the higher quality, then just I delete them after.

Timothy Nikiforovs

same here, then you can use whatever video player you like best. Not fond of the dropbox interface myself

Lady Beyond The Wall

Oh cool! Hello! I haven't started any of the Stargate novels yet but they're definitely on my list. I'll definitely keep a look out for yours. :)

Geonn Cannon

Mine are more recent, so if you're going in order, pretty far down the list. But I personally think they're worth waiting for. ;)

Timothy Nikiforovs

Yeah, this isn't a top tier ep or anything, but it's not bad and it does build out the universe more. AFAIK the serrakin didn't get their tech from the goa'uld, but rather had their own that they used to liberate Hebridan and build a society with the humans there. They're probably a small, regional power if they don't know about stargates, but still, it's a nice bit of world building to see there are other alien races out there with tech that rivals the goa'uld. Usually it's either humans like the Tollan(also nice callback there. Still hoping some of them survived), or big players like the nox or asgard. Other aliens tend to be primitive like the unas or extinct like the gadmeer from Scorched Earth. Like Teal'c said, they may make good allies, and they seem friendly enough. One interesting thing I noticed was that Corso implied Tanis was a lesbian, only for her to be hitting on Jonas at the end. I mean of course she kissed him at the SCG to try and throw him off, but that wouldn't explain calling him cute when he was a prisoner. Probably just Aden making it up as an excuse for being so horny. One theme I really liked this episode was O'Neill and SG1's willingness to investigate and hear out the alien's point of view, rather than automatically trusting other humans. Examples like this episode and The Fifth Man are good examples of why the SGC has made so many friends. What doesn't make sense is O'Neill being seemingly uninterested and ignorant of astronomy. As you noted, way back in Children of the Gods, he was an amateur astronomer, which was expanded upon in Singularity and 1969 with MUCH larger telescopes. Lastly, I appreciate the team up of Hammond and Jonas here. It's gratifying to see how Hammond has come to trust and rely on Jonas' judgement as much as the rest of SG1, and credit where it's due, he really played his cards smart here.

Geonn Cannon

Fun fact, building on my earlier comment: I used that line from Corso to justify making Tanis a lesbian in the novels I wrote. MGM never officially okayed it, but they also didn't have any issues with her having a girlfriend. I mean, hey, she can recognize cuteness regardless of her orientation, and in the book the kiss was 100% to throw him off. ;)

Timothy Nikiforovs

Could be, or she's bi and just not attracted to the other 2. I've never read any SG1 novels, but the sequel to A Matter of Time always looked interesting.

Teth

I always watch them on dropbox. Google drive sucks.

Fanny H.

I did read one stargate novel. I wasn't fond of the writing style. So I stopped.

Geonn Cannon

That's fair! Although if you read the early, pre-Fandemonium novels, those were garbage. Written by a hired pen, not an actual fan of the show. But everyone has different tastes. :)

78stonewobble

I haven't had any consistent problems with either dropbox or google drive, but very sporadically google drive does seem to suddenly "process" even on older videos and when it's a new upload google also seems to take longer to be ready.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Next weeks eps are a real step up. 2 of my favourites of the season.

Brent Justice

This one is cool, I hope we see them again. The fact they didn't have a Stargate is interesting, it means they can evolve separately like Earth.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Definitely looking forward to this weeks two episodes. They're both great ones! And well.. the rest of the season really. And next season. Very excited!

aWkie

Late again? :( its becoming a bad habbit..

Limi V

Jack's apparent ignorance of how telescopes work stuck out to me too. I know they like to have Jack act like he's a lot dumber than he is, but this is a bit much.
