Knowing that they want to undermine the Dragonmarked Houses, I think there's a lot of story potential in having the Aurum secretly funding House Tarkanan...

I am big on the idea that they'd fund a lot of different operations for their dirty work. In my campaign they are actually the secret sponsors to the pirate faction in Lhazaar and the source of some of their extra deadly tech.
