As promised, here's the full length reaction to Jojo Rabbit! I knew going into it that this was a comedy/drama, and I was so curious how that would be balanced with such heavy subject matter... I think it blends the two genres so well, and the movie is soooo well done! This is now one of my favorite films. Enjoy!

Happy Saturday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Jojo Rabbit (2019). It's the perfect pallette cleanser after having seen Schindler's List (1993) because of Taika Waititi's direction. I plan on watching it later because my girlfriend & I are about to go to an Ed Sheeran concert tonight.

Wow, thanks for the extra movie this week! This quickly became one of my favorite movies and solidified my love of Taika Waititis style. I’m glad you enjoyed it as well!

Happy Saturday, Addie! 😊 I'm really looking forward to watching this reaction. I have yet to see this movie. I know very little about it other than Taika Waititi directed and starred in it alongside Scarlett Johansson. This will give me something good to watch later this evening, the movie along with your reaction. Have a great day today and the rest of the weekend! 😊

Speaking of Taika Waititi, director of this movie, here's the intro to his commentary for Thor: Ragnarok (2017). Link: https://youtu.be/aeVXYsBRLfs

That pan-up to Rosie's shoes is still one of the most shocking scenes I've ever seen. More Waititi to check out (probably on your own since, apart from "Shadows" - thanks in good part to its spinoff TV series - they're not really that well-known... though I'd love it if people here proved me wrong): "Eagle Vs. Shark," "Boy," "What We Do in the Shadows," and "Hunt for the Wilderpeople."

This is probably my favourite movie from the past 10 years. Glad you liked it too!

Another heartwarming/hilarious movie from Taika Waititi is Hunt For The Wilderpeople. And his What We Do In The Shadows is a really funny mockumentary, one of the best(and the spinoff shows[the FX show of the same name and Wellington Paranormal] are excellent, too).

This movie is truly beautiful. I don't care about awards or accolades, but I truly don't know how Scarlett Johansson didn't win the big statues for her performance in this one. And Sam Rockwell, and Thomasin Mckenzie, and holy shit Roman Griffin Davis who was spectacular as Jojo. Yeah..this one is special.

You touched on how nuanced these characters were when talking about Scarlett Johansen's Rosie. Her child glorifies the very thing that horrifies her. That is one example but every character had so much of that same nuance. Especially Sam Rockwell who doesn't get a lot of backstory but the directing, and incredible acting, made such a great character. How do you play a truly patriotic man who knows his state is doomed to fail AND who knows that his government would turn on him if anyone knew he was gay? What a complex feeling it is to love something that hates you. Maybe Captain K really just loves the German people and is a natural protector, I mean the way he looks at Jojo during the house search scene, like he is ready to grab him and run to safety at any moment. All this complex emotional stress is just under the surface of smiling faces and light hearted jokes. Such reality in that. Very few people would actually show the turmoil in their heart while in public. Rosie, Captain K, Jojo, Elsa, Yorki, Finkle, all of them have a way they want the world to be, but only have the world they were given. This is one of my favorite movies ever so thank you so much for an excuse to talk about it!

A weekend reaction movie!! You’re too kind to us, Addie!! It took me a while to come around and watch this movie myself. I had a different concept of what this would be. I was raised only by my Mother and I see so many similarities between Rosie and my Mom. The weight of doing everything possible to make a life us. I’m hoping I’m the future you will put Hacksaw Ridge in another poll. I think it’ll have a better chance in the next. Take care of yourself, Addie!! Hope to see Ollie too!!

Along with "The Fabelmans," it's the only film from the last 5 years that I've come out of feeling absolutely exhilarated at the end... though that may be more of a comment on how downhill Hollywood has gone in that time.
