Fvaourite movies adapted from Books? Woah! That's a long list starting with Stoker and Shelley. I cannot say that I've been particularly pleased with any King adaption. The Shining is good, Salems lot was okay. How about Ray Bradbury's 'Something Wicked this way comes'? The 1983 film wasn't bad., just not great. Harrisons 'Make Room, Make room" became an acceptable "Soylent Green". I think that TV has done a better job of translating books into the screen than movies. Movie producers insist on shoving in stuff that the books never had. Just look at the Lord of the Rings stuff. or Minority Report. Or they go off on a tangent, being unable or unwilling to dig into the book. They create the drek which is Starship Troopers or the brilliance of Blade Runner (do androids dream of electric sheep) .Whereas TV, with miniscule budgets had to get to the gist of it quickly. I'm thinking here of Tales of the Unexpected., and so rarely create those total gems.

When 'Sleepwalkers' was on Netflix the listing read "Featuring Ron Perlman" Perlman is in two scenes for a total of about 3 minuets. One of the best movies adapted from books would be Chuck Paulaniuk's 'Fight Club' Fincher nails it, and it's a testament to the film makers when the original author has said he likes the changed ending. Interestingly Fincher went for a closed ending while the novel has a open ending that could have hinted for a sequel. Another one that works well is Bret Easten Ellis' 'American Psycho' again the casting is perfect, and as it is the season I always argue that it's more of a Christmas movie than 'Die Hard'

Best movie adapted from a book is The Martian; they really nailed it! And I must acknowledge the 800 pound gorilla in the room, and say that the Lord of the Rings trilogy is outstanding, even when they made things up, like Saruman's death scene!

The DVD for Corridor of Mirrors proudly proclaims that it is Christopher Lee's Debut!

Talking of failed adaptations, just look at "Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula", which has less to do with Stoker than the Franco version.
