Summary: Hawk the Slayer, after seeing both his father and bride die at the hands of his malevolent brother, Voltan, sets out for revenge and the chance to live up to his title. Tooling himself up with the "mind-sword" and recruiting a motley band of warriors: a giant, a dwarf, a one-armed man with a machine-crossbow and an elf with the fastest bow in the land; Hawk leads the battle against Voltan to free the land from the forces of evil and avenge his loved ones.

Fatal Flying Guillotine (1978) aside from starring future cult villain Thunder (Carter Wong), has a delightful villain in the man who invented the titular weapons. I found no end of amusement in contrasting his invention with the fact that, if anything, they actually kinda slow him down because he is an absolute murder machine with his bare hands.

Wonderful! My favorite parts are the Silly String and automatic Crossbow that never needs reloading.

With Patricia Quinn of Rocky Horror fame as the sorceress! As for over the top villains, it is a toss up between Count Zarth Arn of Star Crash and Mage Profion in Dungeons and Dragons.

Favourite scenery chewing villains, tricky one. I'd say "Big Trouble in Little China"'s James Hong, Jim Carrey, especially in "Batman Forever", and another vote for Jack Palance in absolutely anything from "Tango & Cash" through "Batman" down to his older stuff like "The Big Knife", "Ten seconds to hell"... I forget the rest. He's an older era's Nic Cage. On call for when you really, really needed to add a few extra notches to the volume.

I always liked Hawk The Slayer, despite its flaws. The music is great, the story is simple and the costumes & special effects aren't half bad for when the film was made. If there is a high B-grade for 1980's fantasy, I would put Hawk The Slayer in there with Battle Beyond The Stars and Krull.
