What about the automatic crossbow that never needs refilling! That's as much fun as the Silly String. Voltan didn't love Hawk's girl, he just wanted to possess her. He could easily have forced himself on some poor woman solely for the purpose of acquiring a son. He probably kept the kid around as an amusement after slaughtering his village. You notice how neither Voltan nor Hawk look 20 years older than they did when Voltan got his face fried.
