Once again, you give us insightful and multi-layered commentary. Thank you! In this show, as with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (and indeed life), character growth can happen, but it's gradual, and never without some backsliding. Longtime habits aren't to be ditched overnight, as you said. I agree with you about the Season 1 Finale concluding one arc for the Roses. I'm not going to equate the show's seasons with the standard stages of grief -- I don't think it would hold up at all -- but I do think that that finale ended the "Denial" stage for them. They now have to accept that they're not getting out immediately, and learn to actually make some kind of a life in Schitt's Creek. One adjustment the writers made, for which I'm very grateful, is walking Roland back a bit from how he was in the very first episodes. Remember how subhumanly disgusting he was then? Now he's just clueless and rather petty.
