At the beginning you were talking about how BTS must have helped people with that little mean voice and that's exactly what they do. Maybe this is overly personal but I used to keep these journals--like since middle school--that I called my "I hate the world journals." I wrote in them every time I was having a bad day for 15 years. After I finished law school and took the Bar, I was at a really low point but I stumbled onto BTS and fell quickly down the rabbit hole. A month after I found them, I attended their Citi Field concert and during Epiphany, I felt something change in me for real. Over the next few months, I just went through life with this new base line of unconditional self-love. Probably 8 months in, I was listening to BTS on my home speaker, clearing my law books off my shelf and found my most recent "I hate the world journal" among them and I realized I hadn't written in it since the concert. I started reading through it and I was kind of horrified because I realized what I had called my "I hate the world journals" were actually "I hate myself journals." I dug out my old ones from the closet at that point. Stacks and stacks of them dating back to 7th Grade. And all of them were just full of me saying the most cruel and hateful things to myself, about myself. I was bawling as I read them, realizing how I had been poisoning myself against me my whole life and it was just so normal to me I didn't even notice it. I put all of those journals in a box and marched them straight out to the trash. Threw them all away. When I got back into my apartment, my music was still going and the gratitude I felt to BTS for changing my mindset in a way I didn't even know it needed to change was overwhelming. Eight months of being with them, listening to their music, striving to emulate their example as humans and I had truly learned to love myself. I didn't even know I needed help and they still saved me. To this day, I have bad moments but my unconditional love of self never wavers. BTS' Love Yourself Era was so impactful for countless millions.

As a non-American, I'd say I've seen ''The American dream'' been used to refer to a popstar with a certain image, level of success and happiness? Maybe it's because I've mostly heard it in context with music and the American music industry, but the image goes pretty much hand in hand with how major American labels try to paint their artists, if that makes sense? A young, good looking artist who's extremely successful, smiling at red carpets, selling out stadiums, topping all the charts and always being the talk of the town. As a big music fan I also get why Namjoon probably thinks of the American dream in context with music or the American music industry as the US produces the most globally well-known artists and has the biggest, most impactful music market. I feel like it's kind of like the goal for every non-American artist to make their mark in the US because of that, not just BTS.

I hope you guys react to Bts reaction to the movies, I personally love their reaction to break the silence movie. I also can’t wait for you guys to react to Jhope and suga’s documentaries!!!

I'm not American and for me, the first thing I think of when I hear 'The American Dream' is having a large house with a big backyard and lawn, a family, kids, and dogs, and being successful in whatever job you want to do...

When I first heard Jin’s perspective on his on-cam persona, I was also confused on whether or not that was healthy. But I quickly realized that his way of going about being a bts member isn’t any more damaging than how the other members do it. Just different. From my understanding, Jin not only sees himself as a singer but also as an entertainer. Just because he puts only the bright parts of himself on stage, doesn’t mean he is ignoring his shadow. Jin’s persona when on tv, on stage, during live streams, are intentionally controlled because he knows his influence and knows what his goal is during those events. His solo songs are where he can freely allow himself to express something deeper, assuming he really needs to. His songs are known for being quite emotionally charged, not just vocally but lyrically (this is sign for you to react to more bts songs from the past 👀). I mean, he even wrote a song dedicated to his deceased pets (titled ‘Tonight’). I just think Jin has a real handle on when and where to show what emotions. And that by itself shows a ton of emotional maturity and intelligence💜

i was the same in high school. i was so judgemental and had a lot of bad thoughts about other people, loved gossiping, loved talking shit. then i finished school, got out of that environment and just something shifted. i think a lot of people become more chill, less mean when they grow up. you become more understanding when you age (you should be at least, some people never grow up........)

Lela

Wait Wes has a psych degree? That's so cool 😊

for me, as a non-american, american dream means two things: 1) money that allowes you to live comfortably. id say... middle to upper class level of money. nice house in the suburbs, white picket fence, big car that you need because the nearest grocery store is far away.... 2) assurance that if you work hard youd earn that money and do it fairly quickly. you just need to work really really hard, dont give up and you'll earn a lot of money. thats it. very simple, right? just go the the america and work. days off? who needs them. just work and youd be able to live nice comfortable life now i know that unfortunately its not that simple... also when i was a kid for me american dream meant being able to eat mcdonalds every day.... it was a symbol of luxury for me at the time, because here its kinda pricey compared to local restaurants or just cooking at home.

nessa

Guys, i hope you can check out j-hope's documentary on disney plus for his birthday (february 18) 🥺

Lela

In my country the American Dream is definitely mostly associated with the from rags to riches narrative and becoming rich and successful no matter your background if you work hard enough. But I think nowadays it's more seen as the US's biggest marketing trick like the image they want to sell but actually can't deliver

Lela

59:27 you perfectly described how I feel about Jimin's dancing as well! That's why when I first got into bts and didn't know all the names yet or could identify them my eyes were always drawn to his dancing and I couldn't even say why it happened haha

Tannies19

Guys...you can react to this concert as a whole whenever you have time after watching the movie. It is really amazing to see how all of this comes together as only bits and parts were shown in the documentary. The final concert in Seoul would be the best option. :D

Kai-Riin Kanarbik

actually maybe one day it would be fun for you to see the members reacting to their documentaries, and they have reacted to at least one bon voyage episode too

kke

Thanks for your reaction❤️ I hope you guys react to Suga's solo(Agust D) concert too!!😊

Nele

it's okay guys, i'm excited for next week for part 2 !!!🥰 also i think it would be fun for you guys to watch their reaction and commentary to this movie - if you want hehe

Ahjusshi_Brown

I need you guys to start reacting to the BTS album series. Especially Wesley bc (as a fellow psychology degree haver 😂) BTS’ incorporation of psychological concepts is so fulfilling. I think you guys would especially love the map of the soul series (this documentary is based on the tour accompanying that series) bc it’s based on Carl Jung’s theories of individualization and when you said you would want to hide the parts of yourself that you’re ashamed of, I immediately thought about the shadow part of the series where BTS discusses exactly that. The love yourself series was also the perfect precursor to the map of the soul series bc, in a way, it introduces the psychological concepts from the mots series in a more colloquial and personable way. I think the way we can all identify with the messages of both series is why those albums are especially beloved among bts’ discography.

Stephanie I applaud you for admitting and acknowledging that you were thinking nasty thoughts and then willing yourself to change those thoughts. That takes discipline and all people do it so the fact you trained yourself to stop is very admirable

tannie misser

Here are multiple concert options from these two tours in this docu (love yourself tour & love yourself: speak yourself tour): https://3cmgoogie.tumblr.com/contentlist/bts The okru links seem to be down due to copyright but google drive seems to be working fine and they're all also downloadable! Personally recommend the final concert in Seoul :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ti-Wk2icTrPGByu8rTaIj8ApZUwQHI_x/view

I'm from Argentina so to me, and I'd think that to many latinamericans too, the american dream from when i was little was the idea that if you moved to the US and worked hard enough, you'd have a better life than you have in your home country. Now i think most of us realize it's all bullshit but yeah, i don't think i've heard that phrase used in a long time

Kai-Riin Kanarbik

00:56 i am pretty sure they are having dinner at the last apartment they all lived together at

DanielleM

Steph please don’t ever feel the need to apologize for pausing and sharing your thoughts and experiences! You guys don’t know how helpful and supportive your thoughts and stories are for me!! Just like what BTS does for me, you guys also help me grow as a person and really consider what makes me happy. 💜
