Claudia Doesn't have a daughter, the daughter he wrote about in the previous episode was his hypothetical future daughter. Also The old people you talked about in the beginning who lived longer when they had agency to choose and decide things in their lives are related to the people Wes talked about who seem to pass away as soon as they retire. I'm pretty sure I read something that talked about how when people become old that they can just die when they no longer have a purpose in life, so make sure when you retire that you have a hobby or something to keep busy. This kinda makes sense from a biological point of view, we are a tribal species if your not contributing to the group then your draining resources so we may be genetically programmed to die when you stop being active so we don't become a burden on the tribe.

I think it was subtly explained that in order to hide her poor upbringing, Amy's father isolated her (that's probably why she suddenly stopped writing back to violet). Also it's mentionned that, the lady of the Neville house is never seen apart from time to time in that back garden. So I assume that she is being kept away and that's why she hasn't been able to look for Taylor at all.

Taylor and Amy/Isabella can't see each other, mainly for reasons of social status. Taylor is linked to Amy/Isabella's undesirable past, which her family wants to keep hidden. And the agreement Amy has accepted is this: they provide Taylor with a happy life, and Amy must no longer see her and sacrifice her freedom for the obligations due to her status. In the compilation "Violet Evergarden - Last Letter" we learn that Amy had feelings for Violet (but was already happy with their friendship), that her husband had a lover even before they were married, that she was suffocating in this life to the point of depression, when she received Taylor's letter. Later, Benedict will give her news of Taylor. She catches a glimpse of Taylor, now grown, delivering the mail and decides to keep living for her.

This! This is the story I watched. I think Netflix had it in increments, because I never watched the previous story lol no wonder I felt crazy~ and good job Wesley~ "shishou" is better translated as "master" like.. someone who trains in something. "Sensei" is more like "someone more informed than me" because doctors may be called "sensei" but it's based more on expertise from being taught themselves and getting a degree. "Senpai" is more of a peer who has been in the field longer than you, by not above you in position. Side note: my biggest frustration from learning Japanese and being a wannabe translator is when you see something mis-translated or translated mediocrely in drama or anime. It makes my brain itch 😅 Also~ about the girl school having crushes on Violet, violet is considered "a handsome woman" so basically, in Japan, they have a history of liking beautiful men, so basically the idea is that the most androgynous people would be admired. It's hyped up in anime more than in real life, but it does happen where in girls or boys schools, sometimes even mixed, where they would have a girl or boy who everyone admires to the point of romanticizing. That's the trope they were going for with Violet, is that she is so cool and looks like a "bishounen" (pretty male) compared to everyone, that she resembles a prince/knight so she was developing a fanclub lol it sounds like it'd be only an anime thing and I believed it was until my friend told me that he's seen it himself growing up. 😂

You're right about the words Shishou / Sensei / Senpai. They are among the words that are difficult to translate perfectly, since each is based on a similar honorific title of "master" but with nuances that don't exist in our languages. From what I've understood of these words : Shishou is based on the notion of skill experience in a specific (often traditional) field. Sensei is based on the notion of knowledge in a given field. Senpai is based on the notion of "before me". In France, when this kind of word doesn't have the exact equivalent in the language in which it's spoken, it may not be translated. Over time, viewers become familiar with the precise meaning of these typically Japanese words. I'm by no means a specialist in the Japanese language, but I often see things in English translations of anime that are imprecise or even incorrect. But Japanese is a language that expresses things with an enormous amount of nuance, often contextual, and translating it can be a difficult challenge; especially as translators have to produce very quickly and don't have the time to look for the best possible translation. The result is that Western audiences regularly misunderstand what the characters are saying. Sometimes this can even cause offence (not to mention cultural differences. For example, differences in attitudes to nudity). That said, I'm not surprised to see the current controversy with US localizers.

Wait what? What current controversy? But thank you for explaining the nuances better than I could. As you said, Japanese is suuuper nuanced as a language so even though I know it and understand it (with help from friends and my family to supplement learning) there are a lot of words I just "know" right off the bat. Like trying to explain explain a color. You know it, see it in your head, but explaining it becomes word vomit or painting a picture lol

thank you for the reaction it was fun to watch this with you guys i’ve rarely seen ppl react to this anime let alone the movie. there’s a new romance anime called “a sign of affection” and i was hoping you guys could add it to your list. it’s so good i think you guys would love it. currently it has only 6 ep, i think it’s airing at the same time as solo leveling. also guys i think one of my fav reaction with y’all is business proposal bc i keep rewatching your reactions to it over and over lol

The only reason I can think of for Amy not seeing Taylor is that she thought that Taylor was better off without her. And her having stopped writing to Violet might have been a similar thing. I get the impression that Amy might've dropped into a depressed, reclusive state again, having moved far away from her adopted little sister and her best friend, with whom she may have developed love for. I think this depressed state led to her shutting herself off from the world again, until she was faced with proof that both Taylor and Violet were reaching out to her.
