Mega64 Version 1: Episode 02: "I Feel Asleep," 2003 (Episode produced in 2003, intended for air on San Diego public access that summer, but held back for "Mega64 Version 1" DVD released in November 2004).

Written/Directed by Rocco Botte

The food supply is cut off, Dr. Poque has gone silent. What is going on in the apartment? Is it something to do with the mysterious roommate? Or the newcomer made of felt? And what will happen to the Mega64 once it's infected with a deadly virus...? It's time for stealth espionage action to save the day!

PRODUCTION NOTES:

-The majority of this episode was originally episode 3, but both the original episode 2 and episode 3 were considered kinda dull. Both episodes were cut up and merged into a faster paced single episode (with episode 2 stuff at the beginning, and the rest being episode 3). This brought the season of 6 episodes down to 5, thus disqualifying it later from staying on public access TV which required a minimum 6 episodes. The original cut of episode 2 was released on the "Version 1 Special Edition" DVD as a lost episode.

-This marks the first appearance of the character Marcus and the character Horatio.

-Contains the first ever use of the "Now Loading" voiceover that has become synonymous with Mega64's public game experiments. The original plan was to just write the game titles on the screen, but an entertainment lawyer (at a time where fair use rules were still extremely vague) recommended we do a voiceover instead.

-Both Metal Gear Solid segments within the episode were filmed at different grocery stores, and yet somehow both of them made national news in 2020 for two separate acts of racist facemasks within the same week (Hey, we didn't say all these notes would be fun).

NEXT TIME: He sees him in his sleep. Someone is obsessed with the defeat of a certain sinister scientist... and he'll hack anything to bring him down. Episode 3, "Poque," will reveal this juvenile threat and also show you where to find some sailors!

Seeing this is like being a dbz fan but watching the original dragonball for the first time. A lot of "oh thats where that came from" moments.

I appreciate the amount of effort being put into the codec setup, only for it to be broken both times by characters walking into or reaching onto each other's portraits. Wasn't sure if it was intentional or a screwup, but it got a chuckle out of me.

The descriptions your adding on these adds so much fun facts, thank you for that.
