You listened at the door to the stables as Captain Warren spoke with one of her men. What was his name... Cedric? Aldric? Whatever it was, he was showing doubts about the order for Warren to leave her post at the gate and move to the Harbor, but Warren defended Lorn's decision.

They even mentioned the Red Guard! "Not all," you say, pushing forward with your elbows on the chair, your voice excited. "I listened to Captain Warren defend Lorn in the guard's barracks. He still has support from his subordinates."

"Warren, yes." Mist waves a lazy hand. "She and Lorn have a long history. I think she'd defend him to the gates of hell. She's a fiercely loyal woman. A fierce paragon of a guard should be— I never even tried to bribe her; I know the outcome already."

*"History?" Hadrian babbles out. "Are they married?"

Mist gives him a long, curious look. "Do you think that's the only history two people can have between them, ex-Templar?"

Hadrian flushes. "Uh. No."

Mist’s lips upturn in a pale smile but addresses you. "Warren aside, there is animosity for the Knight-Commander within his ranks, *just as Cynthia made evident. It all didn't come from Vallen, but I think that incident marked the true beginning."
