Another huge night of games and some perspective-altering performances from many of the league's top prospects. Let's go!

Alperen Şengün

25 PTS | 1-3 3PT | 14 REB | 7 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 10-15 2PT | 2-6 FT | 41 MIN

🔸41 minutes of pure Şengün - Udoka has brought the best out of Alpy. Playing the best defense of his professional career, shooting the three with confidence, and dominant at the rim in this one (9-12). This is the breakout Şengün evangelists have been preaching.

Chet Holmgren

16 PTS | 3-4 3PT | 13 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 7 BLK | 2-5 2PT | 3-4 FT | 31 MIN

🔸Chet announced his presence as a dominant rim protector in this one but the biggest development has been his 3PT shooting - 11 for 19 (57.8%) in his last six games!

Jalen Duren

14 PTS | 17 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 2 BLK | 7-8 2PT | 35 MIN

🔸Huge minutes so far and even bigger impact on the boards - Duren is on track for at least a top 50 season - especially if he maintains this block rate.

Scottie Barnes

22 PTS | 1-2 3PT | 10 REB | 10 AST | 2 BLK | 8-12 2PT | 3-4 FT | 39 MIN

🔸Welcome to the Scottie Barnes Leap to Stardom. Scottie had his midrange game working in this one (5-6) and continues to stack blocks - 13 blocks in his last four games! Raptors have him defending the opposing frontcourt which should keep his REB and BLK numbers consistent.

Cam Thomas

30 PTS | 1-4 3PT | 7 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 11-15 2PT | 5-5 FT |

🔸70.8% true shooting on 27.3% usage and shooting 92.3% at the rim! Thought of as an inefficient chucker, Thomas has actually evolved into an efficient three-level scorer since his rookie year. Yes, this came with Cam Johnson but this is the progression we needed to see to unlock his high ceiling.

Victor Wembanyama

21 PTS | 0-6 3PT | 12 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 3 BLK | 7-13 2PT | 7-8 FT

Victor stacked big performances at the free throw line across his final season with Mets 92 and could develop into a plus FT% contributor on top of his other statistical contributions. What can’t he do?

Cade Cunningham

12 PTS | 2-5 3PT | 2 REB | 6 AST | 1 STL | 2-8 2PT | 2-2 FT | 24 MIN

🔸Fouled out and is now 2-8 at the rim across two games - largely because the Pistons’ spacing leaves the paint congested. Cade will have much better days but Detroit must space the floor like Dallas does for Luka to optimize Cunningham’s game.

Franz Wagner

23 PTS | 3-9 3PT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 3-7 2PT | 8-9 FT | 35 MIN

🔸Aggressive Franz is the best Franz. Getting up threes, driving and drawing fouls - this is the kind of profile that will push Franz to his multi All-Star ceiling across his prime.

Evan Mobley

14 PTS | 0-0 3PT | 15 REB | 3 AST | 2 BLK | 5-12 2PT | 4-6 F | 34 MIN

🔸No threes attempted, 0-3 from midrange, and only 20.3% usage in a game without Garland or Allen. I’m discouraged but not defeated - let’s hope that Mobley finds his offensive confidence as the season rolls on.

Paolo Banchero

14 PTS | 0-0 3PT | 7 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 5-12 2PT | 4-9 FT | 35 MIN

🔸Only one three point attempt in two games and still struggling with efficiency (52% true shooting) - it’s only two games but this feels like it might be Franz’s leap year and Paolo breakouts in Year 3.

Jalen Williams

14 PTS | 2-4 3PT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 2-10 2PT | 4-4 FT | 35 MIN

🔸An unusual 1-6 at the rim and 1-4 from midrange in this one, but the increase in his 3PT volume appears to be real.

Shaedon Sharpe

24 PTS | 4-11 3PT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 2 STL | 5-12 2PT | 2-2 FT | 41 MIN

🔸The Simons injury opens up a HUGE role for Sharpe who has the greenest of green lights going forward. It won’t always be this good but these next six weeks should accelerate Sharpe’s development into a top-level scorer long-term.

Brandon Miller

17 PTS | 2-4 3PT | 6 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 4-9 2PT | 3-4 FT | 33 MIN

🔸These minutes will not be sustainable if the Hornets let Bridges return but Miller is already casting aside the hand-wringing about his Summer League struggles.

Jalen Green

22 PTS | 2-6 3PT | 5 REB | 4 AST | 8-14 2PT | 37 MIN

🔸Solid bounceback from his disastrous opener but Green must get to the free throw line (0 attempts in this one) to live up to his fantasy potential.

Keegan Murray

16 PTS | 3-11 3PT | 7 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 3-5 2PT | 1-2 FT | 40 MIN

🔸Above 20% usage again and the rebounding and defensive stats showed up again. These kinds of big minutes could propel Keegan into a big second-year breakout with this stat profile

Josh Giddey

2 PTS | 0-1 3PT | 6 REB | 6 AST | 1-7 2PT | 28 MIN

🔸Giddey is going to have nights like this where someone else takes the ball out of his hands and his shot isn’t falling - here, it was Lu Dort - but the rebound and assist production gives him that high floor we love.

Scoot Henderson

7 PTS | 1-5 3PT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 2-7 2PT | 25 MIN

🔸Reminder: rookie point guards are awful early in their rookie seasons - use this as an opportunity to pry Scoot away from panicking managers. Scoot’s future is so bright.

Jabari Smith Jr.

13 PTS | 2-8 3PT | 9 REB | 1 STL | 3-8 2PT |1-4 FT | 37 MIN

🔸2 for 12 from three in his first two games - I think the threes start falling and he turns things around soon.

Ausar Thompson

6 PTS | 0-1 3PT | 12 REB | 6 AST | 1 BLK | 2-8 2PT | 2-2 FT | 30 MIN

🔸No, Ausar can’t shoot right now - but he’s doing everything else. Averaging 10 REB, 4.5 AST and 3 BLK across his first two games - it’s only getting better from here.

Jeremy Sochan

14 PTS | 0-1 3PT | 5 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 5-8 2PT | 4-4 FT | 26 MIN

🔸All this in only 26 minutes - adapting well to his PG role with a 24.3% assist rate (13.1% last season). The Spurs are all-in on Sochan and you should be too.

Onyeka Okongwu

6 PTS | 2 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 1-2 2PT | 4-4 FT | 20 MIN

🔸It’s depressing but Snyder likes to play Capela more minutes than Okongwu at this point, so we’ll need to see improved per-minute production from Onyeka to bring him back into fantasy relevance. I still believe OO is a long-term starting center for the Hawks - patience.

Walker Kessler

7 PTS | 1-2 3PT | 4 REB | 2-4 2PT | 21 MIN

🔸Clippers played small through sections of this game but Kessler’s role hasn’t been what we’ve hoped for. I think we’ll see a bounceback soon and don’t ignore that Walker hit his second career 3PT in this one - something he started showing late last season.

Jalen Suggs

11 PTS | 0-1 3PT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 4 STL | 2 BLK | 4-4 2PT | 3-3 FT

🔸I love the defensive stats but Suggs can’t fully succeed unless his 3PT shooting makes a leap. After going 2 for 7 in the opener, he only got up a single miss in this one. Let’s hope the preseason progression in that area returns.

Xavier Tillman

13 PTS | 1-3 3PT | 8 REB | 2 AST | 3 STL | 2 BLK | 4-6 2PT | 2-4 FT | 34 MIN

🔸Another big night where he did as well as you can against Jokic. The only question now is whether he can cement himself as a viable long-term starter - so far, he’s passing that test.

Cole Anthony

18 PTS | 3-7 3PT | 4 REB | 2 AST | 1 BLK | 3-8 2PT | 3-6 FT | 28 MIN

🔸Cole is a future starting PG with a big per-minute fantasy game. His ceiling is capped in Orlando for now but smart dynasty managers should be looking to roster him wherever they can.

Amen Thompson

4 PTS | 0-1 3PT | 3 AST | 1 BLK | 2-3 2PT | 0-2 FT |13 MIN

🔸A rough start to Amen’s NBA career but this just creates a window to trade for him at value as short sighted managers panic. Amen is a future fantasy star who will adapt to the NBA game in the coming weeks - acquire him before he does.

Immanuel Quickley

11 PTS | 1-9 3PT | 6 REB | 6 AST | 1 STL | 3-5 2PT | 2-2 FT | 24 MIN

🔸Couldn’t get any threes to fall but 31.7% usage with these REB and AST contributions signals some very big games ahead, even off the bench.

Jalen Johnson

11 PTS | 0-2 3PT | 9 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 5-6 2PT | 1-3 FT | 30 MIN

🔸Big minutes again, 11-13 at the rim this season (did you see that dunk?!) and the REB and defensive stat rates are scaling with the minutes. This is everything we hoped for all offseason.

Dereck Lively II

9 PTS | 2 REB | 1 BLK | 4-4 2PT | 1-2 FT | 17 MIN

🔸The Nets played small ball and the Mavericks joined them, limiting Lively’s role. Bigger minutes ahead and it’s a great indicator that a rookie big could have zero fouls playing 17 minutes against small lineups.

Jaden Ivey

18 PTS | 2-6 3PT | 2 REB | 4 AST | 1 STL | 6-8 2PT | 23 MIN

🔸A strong shooting performance but still playing behind Burks and Hayes in the rotation, so this won’t be sustainable until Ivey earns Monty Williams’ trust as a complement to Cade.

Mark Williams

2 PTS | 3 REB | 1 AST | 1 BLK | 1-4 2PT | 21 MIN

🔸Disastrous game where his minutes were suppressed by foul trouble - these are the ups and downs of young players in the NBA, not a reason to change course. Hold Mark and enjoy the big games ahead.

Jonathan Kuminga

12 PTS | 1-3 3PT | 5 REB | 4-8 2PT | 1-2 FT | 26 MIN

🔸Minutes are holding but Draymond’s return could see them dip - there’s still some hope that he eats into Wiggins’ role. Rebounding rate continues to surge.

Patrick Williams

3 PTS | 1-4 3PT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 0-1 2PT | 13 MIN

🔸After not getting a contract extension, I think there’s real concern that Williams could see a more limited role this season for stretches. Donovan has moved away from him before and did again here.

Moses Moody

10 PTS | 2-3 3PT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 3 STL | 2-2 2PT | 21 MIN

🔸Moody has struggled with a low steal rate in his career so his 6 STL in two games is a great sign of growth that could untap his fantasy potential. More importantly, he is making good defensive rotations and using his ridiculous wingspan to his advantage. Stock up!

Peyton Watson

9 PTS | 2-3 3PT | 3 REB | 1 STL | 3 BLK | 1-1 2PT | 1-2 FT | 18 MIN

🔸This is the per-minute impact that Watson displayed in the G League and in the Nuggets’ final regular season games in 22-23. Remains a must-roster in all dynasty formats because the potential to be a starter across his prime is very real given his defensive potential.

Ziaire Williams

11 PTS | 0-3 3PT | 9 REB | 3 AST | 3-7 2PT | 5-5 FT | 31 MIN

🔸Rough shooting night but it’s a positive to see him getting to the free throw line and contributing positive REB and AST numbers - that stat set expansion is something to monitor.

Quentin Grimes

6 PTS | 2-5 3PT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 25 MIN

🔸Another lower minute game without registering any defensive stats - we like the 3PT volume but Grimes is worth little in fantasy unless he’s playing 30+ minutes a night.

Christian Braun

5 PTS | 1-4 3PT | 4 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 1-1 2PT | 0-2 FT | 19 MIN

🔸Braun’s role is not big enough and his fantasy game is too limited to be impactful right now. Watch for growth in 3PT volume and steal rate.

Day’Ron Sharpe

2 PTS | 4 REB | 1 STL | 1-2 2PT | 3 MIN

🔸The Nets decided to play a lineup that could switch on Luka rather than playing drop coverage with Sharpe - maybe a smart tactical choice but Luka still dropped 49 points on them on 83.3% true shooting. I still believe in Sharpe as a long-term rotation big with some starter upside - he’ll play more against teams with big-bodied centers.

Julian Strawther

0 PTS | 5 MIN

🔸Made his NBA debut but still on the fringe of this rotation because he’s limited defensively. Will have to earn Malone’s trust on that end to get a more substantial role.

Zeke Nnaji

7 PTS | 1 STL | 2 BLK | 3-4 2PT | 1-2 FT | 13 MIN

🔸Nnaji is locked in as Jokic’s backup, but that’s a role that won’t lead to much more than 12-14 minutes a night. Still, his contract extension and secure role are a positive development after years of inconsistency.

Dru Smith

9 PTS | 3-4 3PT | 2 REB | 3 AST | 3 STL | 1 BLK | 0-2 2PT | 23 MIN

🔸Won’t be in the rotation when Richardson returns but Smith was a big per-minute fantasy producer in college and earned a full contract when the Heat signed Cole Swider to a two-way in the preseason. One to watch in 30-team leagues.

Rebuilding team in 16 team dynasty, should I trade Mark Williams for Shaedon Sharpe?

Really great content Matt - this is exactly the type of in-season content that makes the Patreon subscription so good

If you’re rebuilding, yes, you’ll need to acquire big PTS scorers for your future seasons and centers are much easier to acquire.
