Sun God’s Blessing
There were many legends about the Sun God, the world government tried to silence them, not wanting him to be remembered, not wanting his power to be sought after, not wanting the knowledge to linger in the world. One such legend was the day of the dancing beasts, where on a whim the sun god visited an island of beasts and threw a party, the beasts were able to dance and speak. Even a small fraction of Nika’s power could bring chaos and madness.

Chapter 1 One Percent

There was no denying the World Government feared the Sun God Nika, upon his end they thought his power would be gone from this world and yet it persisted in a devil fruit. While they say they do not fear him, they went as far as to change the name of his devil fruit to hide him from the world. All of the legends and stories of Nika on the blue sea were silenced.

They didn’t want people to know of him, remember him, or believe in him. He was an old god, people didn’t need to know about, the Celestial Dragons were the new gods of the world, that’s all that was needed to know. The five elder stars remembered him, coveting Nika’s power. As much as they hated him they tried to obtain his power, but Nika’s will had it slip through their fingers for hundreds of years.

One of the legends was of Nika came to an island of beasts for a party, he gave them food and after eating it they were able to walk on two legs and talk. They danced and partied and so it was the Mink tribe was born, or so the legend says.

It was theorized that Nika could create artificial devil fruits with his power. His ability to twist the world to his whims, it’s limits was said to be limited by his own imagination. Fruits created by Nika’s power didn’t operate like normal devil fruits but they were enough. The Sun God’s Blessing, granting powers that even the mighty sea couldn’t hate.

Another legend spoke of a deal Nika made with the original Poseidon, to allow his artificial devil fruits to not be hated by the sea, in exchange Nika granted Poseidon the power of reincarnation. A deal between gods and thus an ancient weapon was made. When a god falls from grace they are seen as nothing but a devil, so he passed on into the human human fruit model Nika!

Nika’s powers if fully awakened could throw the whole natural order out of balance. When Shanks stole the devil fruit, the World Government saw red, planning to hunt Shanks down to the ends of the realm for it. To bad for them the one who ate the fruit wasn’t a member of the crew.

Monkey D. Luffy a boy who’s body turned to rubber upon eating the “Gum Gum Fruit” the fake name the World Government called it to hide Nika from the world. Not only did he gain a rubber body, the true nature of the devil fruit granted him enlightenment. Luffy had at best access to 1% of Nika’s power, but that was enough.

Luffy had created one artificial devil fruit, it was after Sabo’s death, he wished to protect his brother Ace. So he made him the fruit. “Sun Needle!” He plucked a hair from his head, blowing on it, the black hair turned white, and gave off a warm glow.

The apple he infused it changed, turning purple with white spots on it. Ace at first didn’t wanna eat it, given it’s appearance, but Luffy insisted. The older boy still refused, then Monkey gave him the big puppy dog eyes.

He ate it and gained wolf traits.

Ace could shift forms similar to that of a zoan, but the fruit purely became one with Ace’s form, so he could swim and not be weakened by sea prism stone. Also if Ace wished to eat a true devil fruit he could, and gain new powers.

More than likely this could be how many mythical zoan devil fruits came to be.

The second time was for Grount, his friend. He had been on the Celestial Dragon Ship when they visited Goa. His homeland had been ravaged by war, when he survived and left he thought he had been saved upon finding a government ship, only to be dragged into the depths of hell once again.

Branded and collared Grount suffered at the hands of the Celestial Dragons. He saw what happened to Sabo, and knew if he stayed here it was death. So while the Celestial Dragon collected their tribute he ran.

Grount didn’t get far before the slave collar began to chime.

Ting...ting...ting...ting...ting…

The timer started. Grount began to panic unsure of what to do.

Ting, ting, ting, ting, ting,

It was getting faster. A part of him wanted to find the Celestial Dragon and give him one good punch, maybe take the bastard with him if he could.

‘It’s over...I’m gonna die…’

“Dragon Claw!” A cloaked man appeared and with a single strike he ripped the collar off and tossed it aside. BOOM!

Grount was stunned, he was still alive. “Th...thank you!”

“Don’t thank me, it is but fate our paths crossed.” Grount didn’t understand but it didn’t matter the collar was off he could escape now, but where would he go. He had no home to return plus...if anyone saw his mark…

A hand grasped where the Claw of the Celestial Dragon was covered. “If you wish to be free, go into the forest find a boy named Luffy. He can help you, if you feel some kind of debt to me pay it to him.”

“How can he help?” He looked to where the man had pointed, and when he turned to look back he was gone. ‘Well...what do I have to lose.’

The Celestial Dragon’s men would hear the explosion and figured he died from the explosion. The Celestial Dragon didn’t really care if some insect died, he’d just get another.

Grount traversed the mountain and ended up finding Luffy after a few days. “Who are you?” Luffy and Ace were sparring outside of the bandit’s hide out.

“The name’s Grount, I was told to find a boy named Luffy, that you?” Ace narrowed his eyes on him.

He took a defensive stance in front of him. “Who sent you!?”

“No one...I mean someone, I didn’t get his name!”

“Luffy, get inside, I’ll deal with him!”

“But Ace…”

“Now!” He shouted.

“What’s all the shouting about?” Dadan came out. “Oh god, not another brat!”

“Look!” Grount snapped and flashed his mark. “I need help with this, I was told you can help me!” He was flinching, showing this mark made him feel sick. The day he got it was still burned into his mind.

“That’s the Claw of the Celestial Dragons!” Dadan gasped.

She’d seen it on the slaves who’d come with them, it was a brand. “How did you escape?”

“A man...he helped me...he...he told me to find Luffy that you could help me.” He left out about the part about the life debt and repaying him.

Dadan looked at the boy. “Luffy?”

“I um…” He didn’t know how to heal wounds, but...there was that! “Oh, I know!”

There was one trick he had. He went and found a fruit and did his little trick in secret, bringing back the purple and white blessed fruit. “Eat this!”

‘This is supposed to help?’ Grount ate it. “Ah!”

His body was changed, he gained ape traits. The claw began to smoke as his body healed, vanishing as if it was never there. Through the Sun God’s blessing he was reborn! Tears poured down his cheeks. The boy’s beast traits were the reverse of his hair, he had dominant red fur which reached up to his shoulders, and from his ankles to his hips. He had black hair on his pits, a thick belt of black from his pubes with a treasure trail, and he had a line along the middle of his sac.

Grount stayed around, much to Ace’s annoyance. It wasn’t because he was jealous nope, not at all. He just wanted to be a protective “big brother” that’s all, but the time came where Ace had to set off on his journey. As much as he hated to do it, he had to leave Luffy behind.

Luffy would form his own pirate crew in three years and Grount would be joining said crew. Monkey was the Captain, and Grount would serve as his Commando! While typically it was a marine position Grount found this is what he wanted. He was good at hand to hand combat, using his beast powers, and using knives.

The two sparred with each other for years, pushing their training further. By the time they were 16, the animals on the island weren’t a match for them anymore so their number of sparring matches increased. Grount was a tough opponent, so Luffy had to imagine new ways to fight him. In kind, fighting Luffy stirred something inside Grount!
