Chapter 4 

Chapter 5 Let the Games Begin

Awakening the gangs Second Origins was only the first step. Jellal had visited the Great Library of Magic and picked up a few things. For Natsu a book on Flare Magic, for Lucy it was a book on Celestial Spirit Magic, for Gray a book on Ice and Snow Magic, for Wendy a book on Combat Air Magic, and for Erza it was a Catalog of Magic Armors and weapons made over the past five years (The books were written in increments of five). There wasn’t enough time to properly study the books and Erza didn’t have any money to buy new weapons and armor.

The games were a few days away, and they had to go to the Kingdom’s Capital. Crocas was known as the Flower Blooming Capital of Fiore. Once a year the Grand Magic Games are held turning the capital into a grand festival for mages and citizens to enjoy.

With the tournament wizards competed for the title of Number One, battling for honor, status, and a fabulous cash prize. Tourism increased as people came from all over to witness the games. Wizards dueling in different games was prime entertainment. It definitely increased a guild’s popularity.

Jason could report on what a wizard could do all he wanted, but seeing it and in such unique conditions? Couldn’t compare. The games were a big deal, and would help put Fairy Tail back on top.

Their guild was in dire straights, the once mighty Fairy Tail was now a laughing stock. The guild crest that once brought fear or respect, now just brought laughter and ridicule. Makarov asked them to do their best.

They had returned from training and the guild master declared what team would be participating. Natsu, Gray, Erza, Lucy, and Wendy. They had just made it as the matches would begin tomorrow.

The games themselves were always random, in the year of a Shooting Game Alzack and Bisca hadn’t entered, in the year they had a race Jet hadn’t entered. Fairy Tail had tried time and again, but were crushed by other guilds ending in last place. Levy did research into the games, but there wasn’t any form of pattern to how the games were picked. There were combat events which were main staples, but again Fairy Tail kept coming up short.

Levy had read the rules, and there were really only three that stood out. First the Guild Master cannot participate. It was seen as a balancing thing, as it wouldn't be fair if someone got pitted against the Guild Master who had way more years of power and experience. Plus...having two guild masters clash with each other could be devastating, it was safer to just keep them out of the equation.

Second, anyone without the guild’s insignia couldn’t participate, and only observe. This helped keep guilds from hiring mercenaries to stack the deck against other teams.

Each event will remain a secret until they begin at which point the rules would be explained. This made sure that everyone was on equal playing field and luck would play a roll.

There was a warning, to be in their lodgings by midnight. The team heard the warning and felt they had time to explore and see the city. Their lodging was HoneyBone Lodge. Erza checked on the room, sensing something suspicious might be a foot, but after checking the whole room she found nothing. ‘How strange, why would we be assigned designated lodgings?’

The rest of the team ended up getting separated. Gray took a wrong turn and ended up alone, but not for long.

Wendy and Carla ended off with brochure to see the sights the capital had to offer.

Natsu lost track of Gray’s scent with all the flowers around. The sweet aroma was nice and all but so many flowers around it messed with a dragon slayer’s sense of smell.

The ice wizard had bumped into Juvia. She asked him out for a meal, but her fidgeting and blushing made it clear she was asking him out for a date. “Well I am hungry...but listen Juvia we need to talk…” He wanted to set the record straight.

While Natsu had made Jellal set the record straight with Erza he hadn’t asked the same of Gray. The ice wizard felt bad, he knew how Juvia felt about him and while he didn’t return said feelings and he thought he made it clear she was still chasing him.

It was his truth, he wasn’t interested in her that way, possibly not interested in any girls. He liked being Natsu’s treasure. Their relationship had really grown and developed.

Before he could talk to Juvia, Lyon popped up. “Lyon what are you doing here?”

“Your guild isn’t the only one competing in the Grand Magic Games. Lamia Scale are entering and we plan to win this year.” Last year they had placed second, so this time they were going for the gold. They had Jura on their team this year.

“Don’t forget, we have Erza!”

“All respect to Erza Scarlet but one wizard alone cannot win the Grand Magic Games.” The two had a glare off. “Why don’t we make a bet? If Lamia Scale wins, Juvia will join our guild!”

“What the hell?!”

“Are you already running scared?” Lyon crossed his arms. “I’m surprised at you.”

Fullbuster facepalmed. “One, Fairy Tail doesn’t own Juvia. She’s a member by choice. Two, I don’t own Juvia, so even if I wanted to which I don’t, I couldn’t make such a bet. Three, Juvia is a grown woman who makes her own choices, if she wants to make such a ridiculous bet she can.”

Lyon flipped his hair. “Then when we win Juvia will join Lamia Scale, and I can woo her with my natural charm and charisma. Then we can get married, and I’ll experience true love’s embrace.”

‘This guys is in his own little world...wait a minute…’ Gray smirked. “Lyon...even after seven years, are you still a virgin?”

The older ice wizard blushed. “SoSoSoSoSo So What!” He stuttered. “I’m seven years older and wiser than you, I’m sure I’ll find love before you.”

Gray put a hand on Lyon’s shoulder. “You’ll punch that card someday, good luck buddy.” He had a bit of an air of pride as he was no longer a virgin.

Lyon could read that in Fullbuster’s body language. “Gray...there’s no way...you are just a kid, there’s no way you’ve had sex!?”

Gray glared at him. “Just because you are seven years older doesn’t mean you can treat me as a child.” He smirked.

Lyon grabbed him by the shoulders. “You didn’t defile my sweet Juvia did you!?”

“NO!” Gray snapped.

“You have to be lying, there’s no way a little runt like you has made it when a dashing prince like me hasn’t.” Gray’s urge to punch him grew.

‘Does he even hear himself.’ It may have been childish, but Lyon was bugging him acting all superior just because of the now seven year difference between them. They were rivals in a lot of things, it reminded Gray of the childish competitions they had when they were studying under Ur.

Lyon started shaking him. “Who was it then, who did you sleep with? Tell me!”

“Ohh Gray flirting with a man when I’m right here!” Juvia cried.

‘You are in your own little world aren’t you, do you have any idea what’s happening here?’ Before he could tell Lyon who his mate was there were shouts of a fight.

Wendy and Carla were seeing the sights and local landmarks unaware of something...stalking them...

A tiny creature was tracking their movements waiting for a time to strike.

Some idiots were causing trouble and were swiftly taken out by Sting and Rogue. The two dragon slayers of Sabertooth.

‘Dragon slayers...Sabertooth?’ Natsu rushed over to get a look at their competition, as well as fellow dragon slayers.

He got through the crowd. “It’s really you…” Sting fought back a blush.

“Natsu Dragneel!!” Rogue was shocked to see him.

The two even had their own Exceeds, a red cat named Lector, and a green cat in a pink frog suit named Frosh. They were quite arrogant, Sting mocking Natsu for failing to defeat Acnologia. “You should call us “True” Dragon Slayers. After all...we’d have defeated Acnologia!”

Lucy protested this, but they believed they were a different caliber.

Natsu, Gajeel, and Wendy were seen as Gen One Dragon Slayers, those raised by actual dragons. Laxus and Cobra were seen as Gen Two Dragon Slayers, those that had Dragon Lacrima implanted into their bodies. Sting and Rogue were Third Gen haven been raised by dragons and have dragon lacrima placed into their bodies.

Their confidence was clear, as they boldly and proudly declared they had murdered the dragons who raised them with their own hands. “We are the true dragon...slayers!”

This confession shook Natsu to the core. It wasn’t a human slaying a dragon, to Dragneel they just admitted to murdering their parents to his ears.

“Natsu, what’s going on!?” Gray called.

The two slayers left, promising to show them “real” dragon slayer magic in the games. “Hey Natsu...who were those guys?” Grab!

Natsu pulled the ice wizard in.

Fullbuster blushed as the fire dragon slayer held him tight. “Oi...Natsu?” He was squeezed so tight.

Gray could feel the pinkette was trembling. ‘He’s pissed!’

“Just let me…” Natsu spoke. “Just let me hold you for a bit okay?”

“Yeah...okay…” He hugged Natsu back. Lyon’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped. Their was an aura of intimacy between them that even Lyon could see crystal clear.

The ice wizard’s warmth and scent helped calm Natsu down. “There’s something...off with those guys…” The looks in their eyes, their body language, even their tone felt so wrong. “Sabertooth…”

They made it back to the HoneyBone Lodge, it was clear Natsu was still feeling off. He grabbed the flare magic book Jellal gave him and started reading.

Lucy told Erza what had happened. “Well it’s good you didn’t start anything with them, from what I’ve heard Sabertooth is the number one guild right now.” She was a bit worried as Wendy hadn’t arrived yet.

As the clock ticked closer to Midnight the worry only grew. The worst part was they couldn’t go out and look for her either.

Elfman and Lisanna arrived bringing snacks and some Muscle Cola. When the clock struck Midnight the preliminaries began the Sky Labyrinth!

They needed five members to enter the Labyrinth. Elfman volunteered to fill in for Wendy and the group charged in. Lisanna and Happy were told to go look for Wendy.

Fairy Tail makes it through the labyrinth barely making it, landing in Eighth Place. They have time before the actual games begin Natsu and Elfman have a show of strength.
