Chapter 5 Jaden vs Chazz

Chazz was seething. Obelisk Blue, the elite of Duel Academy, were overwhelmed by Slifer Red students, the drop out losers of Duel Academy. ‘How...how is this possible?’ Chazz was sweating. ‘These slackers, how can they be so lucky!’

It wasn’t just a simple matter of luck or rare cards that won the game. There was strategy, tactics, and confidence. Some of the red dorm students had a problem with stage fright and anxiety, but with Jaden’s help they’ve found themselves, built confidence, and found a form of peace when dueling. They had a focus in their duels that caught the others off guard.

Chazz refused to see that. ‘I’ll crush those slackers with raw power!’ His deck was fully loaded with rare cards.

Princeton was quick to chew out his “friends” for their loss. He was disgusted by their failure. Jasmine was the only one not taking it. “We are sorry Chazz, we underestimated them!”

“You call that an excuse for your failure, you lost to those slackers!” He hissed.

“You better watch it Chazz!” He glared at Jasmine. “You talking a lot of big talk, would make you look like a big loser if you talk big and lose to Jaden.”

“You think I’m gonna lose to that slime?” She shrugged.

“Maybe, maybe not, if he’s their leader, he’s sure to be the strongest and he’s the one who beat Crowler. You better not take any chances Chazz, this is a test war after all.”

‘She’s right about one thing, I can’t afford to lose!’

Meanwhile…

While Chazz was giving a chewing out, Jaden was giving an eating out. As a reward for their hard work. They had some time before the final match, so Jaden was giving thanks.

“You better get your game on Chazz cause I’m ready to win this war!” They load their decks and the duel began. Princeton won the coin toss so he got to go first.

Jaden/Chazz: 4000

“I summon Scavenger Zombie in attack mode!” A creepy zombie carrying basket of weapons appeared.

Scavenger Zombie ATK 0

“Zero attack?” Jaden questioned and Chazz smirked.

“His effect makes up for it, as when he’s in attack mode I’m able to search my deck for a spell card.” He added a spell card from his deck to his hand. Princeton set a card face down. The card he had face down was Spirit Barrier.

Jaden draws. “I summon Amazon Trapper!” A young twink amazon appeared, the monster has dark hair, and wears a bandanna. He wears a tribal loin clothe and a fur vest with various tools on his belt and vest. “When he is summoned he gets to set a trap card from my deck.” He does so.

Amazon Trapper ATK: 1400

“I attack!” Chazz smirked.

“You really are pathetic slacker, walking into my trap, did you’d really think I’d leave a 0 attack monster open for you to get at my life points.” He tried to activate his trap but it wouldn’t activate.

“That’s why I summoned my Trapper, you can’t activate traps during the battle phase.” He slashed Chazz’s zombie and gave him a swift kick to do some damage.

Chazz: 2600

Jaden set a card from his hand and ended his turn.

“Enjoy it slacker, cause that’s the only damage you are getting out of me!” He activated his spirit barrier. This continuous trap allowed him to take no battle damage so long as he had a monster on the field.

It was his turn and he draws. ‘Heh thanks Crowler, it’s time to swing this duel into my favor.’ He activated Magical Mallet, this let him return mallet and any cards in his hand he wished to his deck. He returned Mallet and three other cards, getting four new ones. One of these cards was Magical Mallet, which he used one more time, to get rid of one other card.

“I summon V-Tiger Jet in attack mode!” He then activated the spell card Frontline Base, which let him special summon another level 4 or lower monster from his hand. “I special summon W-Wing Catapult in attack mode.”

They didn’t stick around long as he removed the two from play to special summon VW-Tiger Catapult.

VW ATK: 2000

“Say goodbye to your amazon weakling!” He had Tiger Catapult attack.

“I don’t think so Chazz, I activate Guardian Totem!” The trap card flipped up. “Since you attacked one of my amazons this trap negates your attack.” The totem fired a beam that stopped the Catapult in it’s tracks. With that the card flipped face down again.

“What a pain, but that trap won’t save you!” Chazz ended his turn with setting another rare card face down.

It was Jaden’s turn, and he drew. “I summon Amazon Shielder in defense mode!” A young bara amazon appeared on the field having blue body paint on his body and wearing a blue headband. He carried a giant shield.

Amazon Shielder DEF: 2200

“With that I’ll end my turn!”

Chazz draws. Using the normal summon and the special summon he got from frontline base, he summoned X-Head Cannon and Z-Metal Tank, but they were banished allowing XZ-Catepillar Cannon to be summoned.

Catepillar Cannon ATK 2400

“I use XZ-Catepillar Cannon’s effect by sending 1 card to my grave I get to destroy one of your face downs, and I choose your Totem Guardian!” It fired beams and destroyed Jaden’s trap card. “Now my fusion monster can attack!”

“You forgot about my other face down Chazz!” He revealed Amazon Spears, it destroyed all his face up monsters. The spears ripped through the futuristic monsters and destroyed them. With the battle phase over Chazz activated his own trap.

“Thanks slacker now I can do this!” He revealed Shout of the Cursed Graveyard. It was a rarer and more powerful version of Call of the Haunted, since he lost two monsters this turn he could special summon as many from his grave. This included the Y Dragon Head he sacrificed to use XZ’s effect, and his Scavenger Zombie.

Dragon Head was summoned in Defense Mode, while Scavenger Zombie was summoned in attack, activating his effect. “I get to add a spell card from my deck to my hand.” He put a card face down and ended his turn. ‘This slacker has no idea what’s about to happen, I knew he had Amazon Spears in his deck, now that it’s gone my true rampage can begin.’

Jaden draws, and quickly used Pot of Greed, getting two traps Rescue Switch and Brawler’s Chain. ‘Perfect!’ He only had two other Amazon’s in his hand, Amazon Archer and Amazon King! “I summon Amazon Archer in attack mode!”

He had Archer attack his Zombie. Thanks to Spirit Barrier he took no battle damage. “Did you forget about my trap slacker?”

“No I remembered, but Archer has a special ability, when he destroys one of your monsters he can destroy a card in your hand. You only have two let’s reduce that to one!” Archer fired an arrow and destroyed one of the cards in Chazz’s hand, it was a monster and not one he needed.

‘Too late slacker, my field is ready.’ Jaden couldn’t destroy Y-Dragon Head so he’d have to end his turn.

“Well I’ll just throw down two face downs and end my turn.”

Chazz draws. He activated Grave Recycling, this allowed him to return monster cards from his GY to his deck or extra deck and increase his life points by 300 for each one. So he returned the zombie, the monster Jaden destroyed with Archer, and his two fusion monsters. His life points increased by 1200.

Chazz: 3800

“Now I activate my trap Return from a Different Dimension, this allows me to special summon all the monsters I removed from play.” So he did, but they didn’t stay long.

XYZ-Dragon Cannon appeared on the field along with VW Tiger Catapult. “I’m not done yet loser.” He banished the two fusions to summon VWXYZ- Dragon Catapult Cannon. It had a massive 3000 ATK, plus it had it’s effects.

“First thing’s first, I’m gonna blast your Archer into oblivion!” He used Dragon Catapult Cannon’s effect to banish Archer.

“I don’t think so Chazz, I got a trap Rescue Switch!” The trap revealed itself. “This returns Archer to my hand.” He vanished causing the blast Chazz fired to fade off into nothingness. “Then I get to special summon another Amazon from my hand!” He summoned the beast, the legend the Amazon King. The monster was a hunk, bronze and muscular, with his hair tied back in a sexy braid. He carried an Axe in one hand and a shield in the other.

Amazon King ATK 2500

“With my King on the field my Amazon’s can’t be destroyed by battle!”

“Who cares, I can still blast him and deal damage to you!” Jaden wagged his finger at Chazz.

“Sorry Chazz but so long as Shielder is on the field, I can change all attack targets to him.” Chazz smirked.

“Even better, cause when VWXYZ- Dragon Catapult Cannon attacks one of your monsters I choose the mode, and I’ll force your Shielder into attack and hit you with a ton of damage!” He had his Cannon attack, Shielder was forced to stand up and take the blast, his shield flying off into the air...only for a gold chain to shoot up and snatch it before it could fall back and hit Jaden for damage. “What?!”

“Sorry Chazz, I have another Trap, Brawler’s Chain, it gives Brawler a 500 ATK boost, plus when he’s attacked he gains all of his Defensive power.” This chain embodied the amazon’s spirit of brawling, so it utilized all of the user’s strength ATK and DEF.

Amazon Shielder ATK: 3600

Shielder whipped his shield down by the chain and smashed it into Chazz’s ultimate monster. BOOM!

His field was empty, the continuous spells and traps he had couldn’t protect him. Chazz had tried to overwhelm Jaden with raw power but Yuki had used Chazz’s own power against him with strategy and playing his cards at the right time. He could have sacrificed Trapper, to summon the king, but he kept Chazz’s traps locked during the battle phase, so he summoned Shielder. Even if he hadn’t drawn Brawler’s Chain, he had plenty of other moves he could have made.

It was Jaden’s turn and he drew the Amazon Village, he didn’t play it since it’d be over kill, but he did summon Amazon Archer. “You thought you could beat me with raw power Chazz, but you were too fixed on destroying me and “teaching me a lesson” you lost focus.”

“Spare me your lectures!”

“Alright then, teach him a lesson!” Jaden snapped his fingers and the Amazons attacked Chazz. First Trapper…

Chazz: 2400

Then Archer…

Chazz: 1200

Then the King!

Chazz: 0

"Gotcha!" Jaden winked at Chazz. He was almost sad this was such a public duel, he'd have loved to get his hands on Chazz and help teach him what power really means. 

With that Chazz was defeated and the Test War was over. Not only did the Slifer Dorm win but it was a stunning victory. They were also protected for the next two months from another Test War from Obelisk Blue.

“No this is impossible...not with all the rare cards I gave them!” Crowler cried.

“What’s that about Rare Cards Crowler?” Sheppard asked.

“N-Nothing sir!” There was no stopping what was coming now.

The Slifer Dorm got some renovations and upgrades done to it, the boys had to camp out for a week while everything was made but thanks to Jaden’s efforts that was easy. The dorm was given a rec room, a fancier dining hall, a nicer kitchen, and their own showers; and the shower sprays were modeled after Slifer the Sky Dragon. It was better than using the communal showers far...far...far away from the dorms.

More rooms were added to the dorms, and there was now enough space to only have two to a room instead of three to four.

Jaden’s room still had three beds but also got a private bathroom with a tub. So Jaden, Syrus, and Chumley still got to live together. It was an improvement but still not as nice as the Ra Yellow dorm, and it was a far cry from Obelisk Blue’s luxury. It was just one test war, and one could be declared every month.

Obelisk Blue had to wait, but Ra Yellow could challenge Red…

Another surprise occurred as there was a transfer request. It came as a shock as no one requested to transfer TO Slifer Red. Sheppard signed off on it so it was official Tyranno Hassleberry was “demoted” to Slifer Red. His uniform was swapped out and he moved into the new Red Barracks.

Waves were being stirred at Duel Academy and Crowler wasn’t for it.
