Chapter 7 Evaluations
Izuku’s Pov
We seemingly passed our first lesson. Kirishima-kun and Kacchan really had it out, but I’m glad they are both okay. I surveyed the damage and it was clear Kacchan really went all out. He really put thought into his costume, just shows how amazing he is. I’ll have to update my notes on him later.
Kirishima-kun was also amazing, he has an amazing and tough body, not that I was staring! I’m glad he’s okay and our plan went off without a hitch. If he hadn’t distracted Kacchan I wouldn’t have been able to secure the weapon.
With his ability to use explosions for flight, we’d have lost.
Since we kinda wrecked the building, the rest of the class would use another for the mock battles. Next up was Team I the Villain Team vs Team B as the heroes.
Ojiro guarded the weapon, while Toru stripped down to make the most of her invisibility quirk. My guess was she was planning to jump them. It may have worked against another team but Shoji was able to detect her.
He manifested ears with his Dupli-Arms quirk, he could hear her coming. With heightened hearing he was able to pin point where they were. Though Todoroki really impressed, having had Shoji remain outside he froze the whole building with his quirk. It was both amazing and terrifying. Seeing everything freeze like that made one feel the chill.
Poor Tohru-san being naked and caught up in the swell of ice! She couldn’t be seen, but I’m sure everyone was feeling her struggle in the ice tundra Todoroki created. Even Ojiro was caked in ice, he was frozen up to the knee.
With both of them frozen Todoroki walked right up to where the weapon was held. While I couldn’t hear what was being said it was odd Todoroki walked right by Ojiro. The blonde looked defeated and Shoto captured the weapon. Using his other side he melted all the ice in the base and with time even evaporated it.
“Aww man did I miss it!” Kirishima-kun was back. “That was fast!” He was dressed in his gym clothes.
“Todoroki-kun was amazing he really overwhelmed the villain team!” Mina Ashido said. “Who knew he was powerful as well as handsome!”
His looks aside there was something bothering me about that match. “Now that we have everyone here, I’m gonna do some evaluations of the teams that have participated so far. Since they are fresh in our minds let’s evaluate Team I and Team B!” All Might asked us our thoughts on the match.
“It’s kinda obvious that Toru and Ojiro were overwhelmed by Todoroki’s powerful ice quirk!” Ochaco spoke up.
“While that is true did anyone notice anything else?” I raised my hand. “Yes young Midoriya?!”
“Todoroki-kun was too confident.” Everyone whipped their heads at me. “While this is a mock battle we need to be taking this seriously as if we were facing real villains.”
“What are you talking about?” Shoto snapped at me. “I clearly had them subdued, had they tried to move they’d have ripped the flesh off their feet!”
“You subdued their legs, but didn’t use the capture tape on them. You walked right by Ojiro who could have grabbed you and put you in a strangle hold, he could have also struck you with his tail. You were completely unguarded had he hit you you could have been knocked out. Further more you entered without Shoji, so you had no back up.” His eyes widened. “Plus what if the villains didn’t care about their feet, when villains are pushed back into a corner they get desperate. You didn’t capture Toru or Ojiro, you thought you had victory the moment you froze the base. This was a training exercise so no one wants to get seriously injured so Ojiro admitted defeat.”
“But…” I could see shock written on his face, possibly some anger and annoyance. Oh boy, did I say something wrong.
“Young Midoriya is right Young Todoroki, you were quite confident and left your partner outside, but you chose to leave them outside after you had froze the base. While your quirk is powerful had you been up against someone who could counter it, that confidence could have ended up costing you. Had you been captured Shoji would have been left to fight two villains alone, and in a real situation you could have been used as a hostage.” All Might said. “While your level of power is impressive for someone your age, don’t let that power give you an inflated ego. Letting your guard down can lead to fatal mistakes.”
“Right…” He looked upset for a moment. I hope I didn’t make him mad. I’m trying to make friends not enemies. He took some deep breaths and that stoic face returned to normal. There was something else I noticed, but felt I shouldn’t say, the way Todoroki-kun was acting, it was like, he wasn’t taking this exam seriously. He did what he did to get the lesson over as quick as possible.
All Might told us that, “Quirks can be a bad match up for other quirks, so while you might have the advantage don’t let your guard down, as villains know the limits of their quirks so they may possess tools to compensate for those limits.” It was important to the mock battles as well, Kacchan’s gauntlets allowed him to produce way more power.
I began to mutter about maybe using paintball guns and rubber knives with paint to add another layer of realism. All Might took notes.
Everyone got some chewing out and some praise, Todoroki praised for his power and problem solving. Ojiro was chewed out over his surrender. “Use this lesson to develop your skills, you may face opponents like Young Todoroki in the future you’ll need to figure out ways of dealing with them.
Toru was praised for her sneak attack tactic, it was only her bad luck that had this ending badly. Shoji was praised for his tracker skills, but was scolded for letting his partner to go inside the base alone without backup.
Then it was our turn. Momo spoke up and chewed Kacchan out for abandoning his partner and his use of the gauntlets wrecked their base. The rumble for the attack gave me an opening after all. Iida had done his best to guard the weapon. Kirishima also did his best against Katsuki and served as a distraction. Though Momo mentioned them fighting over personal issues but I don’t understand what she meant. “As for Midoriya while his tactic was clever, since this is a mock test such a tactic could prove disastrous had the bomb been motion sensitive. Destroying the floor could have also brought the building down.” I guess she had a point. Even if All Might mentioned she was a bit harsh.
I could tell Kacchan was kicking himself over his mistakes. He was seething so I knew it was best to leave him alone.
The next match up was Team F vs Team J, Koda and Sato got the villain role. Shinso seemed happy to be on the hero side.
Koda used his quirk to call for birds and mice to assist with guarding the weapon, while Sato led the charge against the heroes. Sero tried to use his tape to slow Sato down, but once he was charged on sugar he was tearing through it.
I don’t know what happened but it looked like Shinso did something to Sato, his eyes got glazed over and he joined the hero side. Even with the small army of animals Koda fell and was captured.
They all had amazing quirks, Shinso’s was Brainwashing, I wanted to know how it worked. “Young Koda, had you sent some animals with Sato you could have improved your chances. Young Shinso your quirk is truly impressive, and you made excellent use of it.”
“T-Thank you...All Might!” He was blushing, he looked really happy.
Next up was Team C as the villains and Team G as the heroes. Momo used their time to set up traps and barricaded themselves with the weapon. Jiro used her quirk to identify the traps and Kaminari disabled them.
At the barricade they struggled to get inside, it took a combo attack from the two to blast their way in. Uraraka made the weapon weightless and was able to carry it around and avoid capture. Momo made a rubber cape to block Kaminari’s quirk and a staff to fight.
They ran out the clock and the villain team won. Momo was a really impressive tactician. She used the time they had wisely and made use of her quirk. Jiro used her quirk and an amplifier to turn the sound of her own heartbeat into a weapon, which was amazing. I was taking mental notes of everything I saw, to add to my notebooks later.
My habit showed, making notes in the air like I was writing them down. (Kirishima: So cute!)
The last match was Team H as villains and Team E as the heroes. It didn’t go well. Aoyama and Mina went in together, Mina surfed the floor using her acid. She got a bit too wild and splashed Aoyama with it and ruined his cape.
The two started arguing and well...Tokoyami-kun showed up and used his quirk Dark Shadow...they...didn’t stand a chance. They were overwhelmed and caught with the tape.
“Well done everyone, while there were some hiccups here and there, don’t let your losses here define you and don’t take the criticism personally. Any loss you can walk away from is a learning experience. Take note of today and use it to become better heroes!”
“Yes sir!” All Might was so cool! He dashed off for some reason and we were told to head back to class.
After a quick change we returned to homeroom. “What’d you think Midoriya I was pretty cool right!” Kaminari-kun said.
“Oh yeah, you really gave it your all!” He smiled at me, he flipped his hair back and looked up at me.
“How about I treat you to lunch today!”
“Beat it extra!” Kacchan snapped.
“Oh hey Kacchan!” He huffed, yep he’s still mad about the mock battles.
“What’s your deal man, Izuku’s really nice, I thought you two might have been dating but…” I blushed.
“WE AREN’T DATING, FUCK OFF!” I sulked. Kacchan and I aren’t dating but is the idea that bad...he’s so angry he must really hate the idea of dating me. (Kami: Izuku honey no…) I looked at some of the pamphlets I received from Mr. Hound Dog.
Even if monster quirk holders like me can have a normal sex life, doesn’t mean we will. While I can make friends, who’d want to date someone twice their size. Most guys only come up to my crotch, Shoji at least comes up to my chest. This was just making me sad.
I got my notebook and began recording the data from the mock battles.
End Pov
Bakugou’s outburst ruined the mood and Kaminari took his seat, missing his chance to ask out Izuku.
While Izuku was sulking and studying, Kirishima was building up his courage to ask Midoriya out. The titan of a young man really was amazing. ‘Come on Eijirou be a man, ask him out, if you don’t someone else will!’
Aizawa handed them their written evaluations at the end of the day. Midoriya was met with some of the guys and they began to chat about the mock battles. Ojiro was feeling the worst about his performance, with his quirk just being his tail it wasn’t flashy or unique. “But you are a skilled fighter right, you should be more confident. If people think that’s all your quirk is you can catch them off guard.” It did help ease Ojiro’s doubts.
Izuku shared some of his thoughts on their quirks. His notebook was surprisingly detailed. Midoriya was great at quirk analysis so he offered to help if anyone wanted to practice he’d help them.
Once school let out Izuku was feeling a tad low. Bakugou’s reaction had come off completely the wrong way and it was leaking doubts into the greenette’s head. “Hey Izuku!” Kirishima ran up to him.
“Hey Kirishima-kun!”
“Listen Izuku, I was wondering if you’d like to hang out sometime?”
Izuku blinked. “Oh did you wanna train together?”
“While yes I would, that’s not what I meant.” Izuku was confused, he thought Kirishima had heard about his offer for quirk training.
“Hey look, I think Kirishima is making a move on Midoriya!” Ashido pointed out.
“How romantic!” Ochaco gushed.
“WHAT?!” Bakugou blazed with anger.
“Izuku Midoriya…” Kirishima got down on one knee, making Katsuki snap. From the third floor he rocketed into the air using his explosions to shoot towards the school gate. “Will you go out on a date with me!”
Bakugou landed when he heard that. “You want to date me?” Izuku’s heart skipped a beat. “Really?!” He sounded so happy. Kirishima nodded. “Yes, I’ll go out with you!”
Katsuki became petrified, he couldn’t move from the spot. “Young Bakugou!” All Might found him, having seen the whole thing. “Life for a hero can be a rocky path! Matters of love can drop a hurricane onto that path. Even the strongest of men struggle with…”
“Get off me All Might!” The blonde man flinched. “I’m not losing to the spiky haired idiot. I’m not done, I’m just getting started! DEKU!” He shouted.
“Oh Kacchan, and All Might!” Kirishima hadn’t noticed them, too giddy over Izuku saying yes to the date.
“Deku...we...uhh...fuck...go on a date with me damn it!”
“Ehh?”
“Sounds like fun, lets make it a poly date!” Kirishima added.
That was not what Bakugou was expecting. All Might was stunned as well. “Young men are so bold these days.”
To be continued Poly Date!
