Chapter 2 Leech Seed Training

Ash, Delia, and Bezai celebrated his graduation and becoming an official trainer. Ketchum reviewed his lessons.

As a coordinator there were tactics and different styles on how moves could be used. If a move was mastered you use one of five styles: Cool, Tough, Cute, Clever, and Beauty. Using any of the styles had an effect in both Appeal and Battle Rounds. His teachers told him by mastering all five styles one can create their own unique style.

Cool and Tough were parallels, as Cool sacrificed power for speed, and Tough sacrificed speed for power. In kind, Cute and Beauty styles were parallels, Cute sacrificed Power but made additional affects stronger, while Beauty sacrificed speed and also boosted additional effects, like Poison, Paralysis, Burn, Confusion, etc.

Clever was the most diverse, as using a move in this style allowed the move to be used in different ways, striking multiple opponents for example. Then there was Combinations, which opened up a whole new world of moves that could be created by the coordinator and their pokemon. With so many amazing possibilities Ash would be a fool not to do this.

Mastered moves couldn’t be forgotten which was a plus. In school they learned Pokemon that had a power level under 30 can only know 4 moves at a time. Upon reaching that mile stone they can know 5 moves, monsters with a power level of 60 could use up to 6 moves, and a monster with a power level of 90 can use 7 moves. This made battles with stronger opponents a lot more wild and diverse.

Ash didn’t know Bezai’s power level yet, he’d find out once he got his Pokedex. That didn’t mean they couldn’t do some training. Mastering moves had nothing to do with power levels after all.

The starters were being prepared, in their town you could get either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle from Professor Samuel Oak. Ash was eager to get his starter and Bezai was looking forward to a new friend. He received a card with a date for when he could get it.

A week was nothing, the Pokemon League had their big opener event this month. So trainers had a year to collect 8 badges and enter the tournament. The Grand Festival Opener would be at the end of the month.

They were training in the backyard when there was an arrival of a rival. “Hey there Ashy!”

“Quick Attack Go!” He moved at great speed and managed to slam into Bezai. The barrier activated again, halving the damage from the physical attack. They didn’t take the hit lying down, Ketchum had Bezai use another Absorb the red energy struck Eevee, draining his energy and healing the grass type.

“Use Leech Seed!” Bezai attacked, he spat a seed at him. Oak ordered another dodge. The attack missed, but Ash was determined they kept firing Leech Seeds. “Face it Ashy my Eevee’s just to fast for ya!”

Bezai pulsed Ash noticing a shift in his energy. ‘So you’ve mastered this move too huh!’ He grinned. “Alright Bezai use Cute Style Leech Seed!” Bezai knew what to do, Ash had been thinking about different ways to use their moves.

The attack came this time the grass type fired three seeds, one from three of his heads. Eevee dodged two but the third hit. From the seed sprouted out what looked like ivy, it coiled around the normal type. Zap! His energy was drained and Bezai got more healing.

They had been practicing that move. Bezai had Hypnosis mastered and now Leech Seed Mastered thanks to their training and this battle. Ash felt it’d be cute if each of the heads fired a leech seed, he also had another idea for how to use it in Clever style.

Gary was taken aback by the strange use of the move.

“Hang in there Eevee use Swift and wrap this up!” Eevee jumped into the air to ready the attack. Swift was a strong move and couldn’t be dodged, it was a good call...but...
