I know you already started it, but I would highly recommend going back and watching episode 1 of the 1999 version. It will be very important in the future, so you need to watch it soon for a full understanding. It also gives major insight to important characters like Gon, that are missed in the remake.

Tadami

More episodes?! Yes, thank you!

Juho Kaartoaho

I personally don't see any reason to go back and watch it. The things that are missed in there come up in the future episodes and I think it was never necessary to watch it before when I watched Hunter X Hunter.

Meh123

Counter-point, while you get the content very late in the series, you miss the overall context. You don't understand why Gon wants to become a hunter, how he learned about his father, nor the connections he made. It's very important overall, it's as if you skipped chapter one of One Piece, and you are skipping chapter one of HxH. Without the connection to the characters, it comes out of nowhere. I can already imagine when it becomes important Luke saying "Who the heck is this?" of "That's random" Even if you disagree, I'm going to be commenting the same message on every video, stream, and YouTube video when they appear :)

Kurokiji

Agreed, if anything it will be a waste of time trying to find the 1999 version, and honestly Luke should just wait until things get explained anyway, the pacing of 2011 version is good enough so that back-story is not needed until then

Meh123

Again, I disagree since it takes a 5 second Google search and you lose the emotional connection. Even if he never watches it, I will keep sending this message so go head and disagree. I will still keep saying it :)

Honky

Sin3rgee in chat needa shut up fr...

Juho Kaartoaho

I disagree with that reasoning. We already now that Gon want's to become a hunter to find out why was it so important to his father that he left Gon to his aunt, also in the future episodes we are slowly told where Gon has learned about his father and why he is so influential in hunter society. The remake obviously did it the way it's made because they wan't to give those information at more suitable points when they matter more. Other wice we are just repeating the same information. You are still welcome to comment what you feel in his future videos if you feel inclined to do so.

Meh123

And I disagree with that reasoning, since you may be confused with the relationship between manga, anime, and remakes. It's pretty clear that the remake wants to rush through the earlier parts, since they assume the viewer has either read the manga or watched the original series. This is a pretty obvious fact if you looked more into the industry, or actually read the original source material. It's the exact same with Full Metal Alchemist and FMAB, or any remake anime series. The series rushs a lot of plot points, since they assume you already know them. It's fine to disagree with my point, but you shouldn't argue against the way Togashi wrote the series. Since he wrote it a specific way for a reason.

So glad you're watching this classic masterpiece can't wait to be on the journey with you

Toasted Toad

So glad the vods are available as I always forget when the streams are live! BTW on the candle thing, I agree with you that the best thing the prisoner could have done was to make really slow burning candles so they would have stood there for at least 24 hours waiting for them to go out. But the prisoner lost because he could not resist messing about with flame. As long as the wicks burned like normal, Gon could not run over there without risk his candle would go out, and at walking pace the prisoner could easily stay out of range. But once Gon’s candle was burning strongly, he could leave it behind while he zipped over and blew the other guy’s candle out.

Taraster33

The best part is that Luke is so unaware of how much better the show gets over time and ends so strong.

Hiruman

Damn, the last 2 episodes feels like watching nicholas reaction. So many pausing lol

EEEEE

Me too. Hoping for twitch chat interaction to be edited out though. It'll be much more enjoyable.

Nikkelz

Sadly I don't envy the mods on this one. They're trying their best but chat is super hyped up which is understandable as I'm a big HXH fan aswell, but people need to find another way to express that then just spamming spoilers even if its something they think is innocuous. I've actually pointed out like 4-5 names who are constantly saying stuff and while it does not seem to be bugging Luke he's caught on twice so far before the message can be deleted (thankfully he has no context) but even as a vod watcher not watching live it makes it less enjoyable as I actually get annoyed watching chat behave that way. I somewhat agree with a few people who suggested making it emote only. At least during the episode afterwards let chat discuss and help Luke with things he MISSED rather than explain things that will be said in 5 mins in the same episode or are explained later....

Honky

Yeah the emoji only thing is a great idea tbf, eliminates any spoilers from happening

For me, the first version (1999) has a better start, but if he is already hooked on the 2011 version, it is better that he continue. After finishing hxh. Luke could watch the first episode of the other version again to compare it or when he reaches a certain scene that has to do with the first episode.

Meh123

So, the problem is that later scenes won't hold any emotional impact if the first episode/chapter is skipped. Nor will it have any emotional weight with that character. Again, it would be more important watching it now then later. If you watch it later it will be more of an interesting fact, if you watch it now it will hold weight. I understand most people didn't start with the original or the manga - but the manga is the intended story, not the remake anime. This is a fact, not something you can truly brush past since you like the 2011 verson more. I'm a huge fan of HxH, and it's my favorite anime of all time. I would rather someone watch the way the author intended, rather then a rushed through verson.

Meh123

Its also a single episode....and people are acting like it's the end of world if he takes 20 minutes to watch one episode xD I love HxH, but its insane that you all think going back to watch a single episode is a step to far... xD that's crazy to me, since you seem so against it for no reason, when it would give a more emotional impact later on.

Jeff

For sure the 1999 version is just much darker in general visually and mood wise

MZ41D

I have my issues with Harry Potter, what Luke says is soooo true, Harry was raised by muggle and like Hermeonie he didnt knew about magic, he slacks off compared to her. any kid who discovers magic would be more crazy about learning and trying to get better. harry had the plot armor i wish Harry was trained by Dumbledore and would have attempted to create new spells like Dumbloedore and Voldemorte, he was just above average. only reason he actually defeated Voldemorte was through luck.

BipolarEmma

Luke struggling with Kurapikas gender.. this man is not ready for Pitou and Kalluto 😂

Zer0

Killua is such a nice boy.

OvidLiam

To be fair the anime gives Pitou more of a chest, but he's definitely doomed with Kalluto.

Kieran O’Neil

did he confirm when the next hxh stream is?

majesticbubbs

Something I'm unsure if anyone has mentioned to you, the anime does not span the entire manga. It does reach a satisfactory stopping point but there is a decent amount more after you finish and it is still running to this day

Tom Boggess

can't wait until you hear netero's backstory. gonna be many more streams though.

Daniel Turchan

My favorite part of hunter hunter, is that it just keeps getting better with every episode

Lexi

I'm glad Luke had a shocked reaction to the use of the t-slur in the subtitles. I usually hate when people just say "it was a different time," especially when in this case it wasn't THAT long ago. But there was a small effort to reclaim the word around the time this was being subbed, and had that effort been successful and the word had been re-adopted by the trans community, this wouldn't be so jarring today. That said, plenty of other Japanese media that used the term "okama" had been translated since the 90s or earlier without using such a controversial term, sooo... I dunno. Okama is a complicated and controversial term itself, especially when applied to trans women.

Tomokazu Ohno

Can someone tell me when is HxH stream uploading to Patreon every week ? I thought we gonna get 2streams a week or is it for first week only?

Stefan

Go go Killua. Poor fake 🕷️💩 Leorio didn’t miss his chance, true chad

o k

im loving every minute of the reaction

StrykerEvol

So from today on... The mods will now be known as the waffle monks. That's actually a sick name if you ask me.

Ranhar Liscan

fun fact. Hisoka number its 44. in japanese 4 sound familiar to shin-death. And i remember in one of previouse episode, he show card with number 4, before he kill someone, or wanted kill

Marcio Neves

2:05:10 too bad I wasn't able to participate at the chat live. The bet of Leorio was smart: if the dude is really dead, they lose 10 hours, but the match is settled and the dispute can carry on. And if he is not dead, the prisoners lose 10 hours instead

draggo

Oh I agree, Hisoka is a likeable villain... as a villain. Wouldn't want him around IRL lol. .... *especially around any kids*

Louispul5

where'd he get a bag to put the heart in? That's just insult to injury

Shawn Oxley

pretty sure its exclusive to this version but I'd assume its his shirt

JammySplosha
