Comments

Orieng

I love double episodes! :D

Mariokempes

#7 day of asking Luke to watch Kamikatsu

Roxy’s Holy Relic

Not Frieren related but is anyone else hyped about the new Monogatari Series “Monster Season” and “Off Season” anime adaptions announced today? Peak is coming back, what a time to be alive

Toasterfinal5

Only in Frieren that they can make being stuck in a cabin for an entire winter so entertaining.

ArtKi

8:50 predicting the end? (of the series, not the season). (anime only here!) they defeat the new Demon King. Ummm, that's probably the next to last thing that happens.

slipstride

There's another show that makes me feel strong emotions for the characters that's called "a place further than the universe" its about a group of friends journey to Antarctica and one friend seeking closure for her moms disappearance its masterfully written if you ever have the opritunity to check it out I think you would love it

FullHeart

I love the legendary spells because if you think about it it makes so much sense. If magic was real the average person doesnt care about how to kill people; you know what's legendary to a normal person? Modern conveniences that eliminate chores/work. Spells that do your laundry, clean your dishes, muck the stalls. Also yeah, Stark is UNBELIEVABLY strong. I mean, we saw him carrying that boulder with the old dwarf on it last episode - he's a *human*. Eisen was scared of his strength on a level that he hit him out of instinct, like a monster. Stark is so self-loathing that he definitely doesn't realize how strong he is, and because he doesn't know his own strength he isn't conscientious of it and probably squeezed Fern's shoulder very hard.

Collin Patrick

Do you have some sort of toggle bound to your space bar in your recording software or sound settings? For a while now, the audio seems to get weird every other time you pause.

js

I think what Fern meant is that she got scared before she realized it was Stark, as she basically felt a sudden strong grab from behind. It makes sense for fear to kick in before the realization of what actually happened. I doubt she's scared of Stark per se.

Daniel Griffiths

for some reason in episode 17 every time you paused, the audio would switch from good to bad as if turning on 2 mics possibly? it wasn't that bad tbf just thought id point it out lol

Pete Bickmore

You talked about the amount of shows you’ve watched and if it’s around 30-40, it makes me think how many really good shows you’ll never get to watch simply because of the sheer volume and the amount of great shows that are coming out, particularly with anime’s newer trend of actually giving sequels to their shows nowadays. I think a lot of us were very lucky to get in to anime as teens. I remember watching 3-5 shows a week, no matter how good they are because I simply had time to do it. I hope we can give you an overall experience of the anime boom of the last 20 years. (We need more music anime!)

Daniel Griffiths

the reason we got new OP an ED is because we got 2 parts of season 1 over 2 anime seasons. the 2 episodes you watched this reaction we all had to wait 2 weeks for episode 17 after 16 lol

Some0neElse

I dont think the end goal of the anime is to reach Heaven. They will probably reach it sooner and im guessing they will learn of new demon lord or something... otherwise why introducing that "hero's sword" with the prophecy of big calamity... and we also have Stark who is basically the last survivor of the warrior's village. Makes sense to use these EDIT: the only other anime that i know and would consider close to Frieren is "I Quit Heroing"

FullHeart

this is such a shonen watcher response lol. Not every story needs to be the chosen one defeating the ultimate evil or whatever, and that's never been what Frieren is about

Keith Merrington

Agreed. A Place Further than the Universe is a real gem. It's another Madhouse production (as is Frieren).

Some0neElse

Chekhov's gun... if you introduce a plot device you are bound to use it at one point... I might be completely wrong though :D

Damian

This anime just keeps making me laugh and cry on the same episode. I can't wait to start reading the manga as soon as it finishes airing.

charlymoon

someone already said it but another anime that can make you feel strong emotions is "a place further than the universe", I hope you can get to watch it someday

Silvio Guidi

i really really hope you will start to watch apotecary diary. i think it's very related to frieren on the type of anime they are. even if they are so different. in this reaction you said a thing i didn't thin before. frieren as an anime gives you something that you don't get in any other anime. and i think it's perfect, it's the definition of a good likeable anime, they should gives us something different, else they are just a bunch of fighting style anime (they are amazing of course, but on these days too abused). apotecary diary is on the same style as frieren for me, a slow pace but emotional and wonderfoul journey into character feelings

Tomas1231

I agree its fantastic, highly recommend. It would be great for Got to watch it after Frieren.

Marcio Neves

And by next week you will be up-to-date with all of the Frieren episodes (tomorrow will be 19, so, next week will be 18+19 reacts)

Marcio Neves

18:04 "how came up with these names". As you have seen, the answer didn't take long 😁

CdrCain

Thank you so much for these great reactions. I am watching Frieren as it airs and then coming to watch your reactions after to watch it again. Its always so nice to watch someone else experience the same range of emotions I get when watching a show. I totally get what you mean when you talk about how happy the show makes you and how it's still sad. I like to say shows like this are "being true to life" in that it feels "real". A lot of shows/animes often feel like a show but Frieren's way of expressing emotions feels so close to real life. So I think it hits us in a different way because the emotions expressed are from relationships, losses, friends drifting apart, the small joys in life, etc... Its not emotional moments just coming from big boss fights or from the horrors of war (like other shows). These are all experiences/emotions that we (the viewers) have all had and it's so much more relatable that way. Not to mention it always has the inevitable "end" looming over it that we know these happy moments will never last forever because, no matter what, people eventually die (showcased by all the flashbacks). So its literally the bittersweet showcase of life in people finding joys while they are still alive, even though they know everything ends someday. Also, I can't wait for you to react to the new OP! Yorushika is one of my favorite musical acts and Suis' voice is amazing. I honestly think it will be your first ever Yorushika reaction and I am so hype for it! I strongly recommend reacting to the full version of the OP too.

SakakiMaya

I think the only show I can compare Frieren to is an old old one. Record of Lodoss War. Although I think Frieren hits the emotions a lot more.

DeusSilvam

I would compare Frieren to Mushishi. Both have this melancholic feeling a lot of the time. Also maybe Natsume's Book of Friends.

Coping McCoperson

Once you get caught up next Thursday will you be doing the new episodes on Friday weekly?

Frentzy

Does anyone have the feel with frieren that you just don't have this urgency to see next episode? I found myself at ep 17, and when ep 18 dropped I didn't really felt the 'need' to watch. after ep 15,16,17 I realized that I am watching a slow burner. Every episode was good, but there was no HOOK to make me wanna watch next ep. And now I found myself having zero desire to watch the next episode, not that I won't watch it, but I just don't feel the need.

GTB

It's not at all where the manga is going so far. And from the start, it's been clear that the authors aren't interested in this kind of story. But don't worry, the story has plenty of surprises in store :).

GTB

Luke, to answer your question: I think this unusually long 27 ep season will end at just under half the number of manga chapters released to date. More chapters will be released between now and season 2. So I think you can bet on 3 seasons...or more. It all depends on how many chapters the authors plan to make.

FaerieRose

30 shows barely scratches the surface of what anime has to offer. You haven’t even touched entire genres yet, like cute-girls-doing-cute-things, shoujo, or sports.

Keith Merrington

I agree, I'd like to see more spread - especially more SOL genre. I'm getting a bit bored with all the supernatural elements in animes he's watching. A bit more balance would be appreciated.

Rob

I personally love Fridays, just for Frieren. I can't wait for each episode haha

Subaquatic Toaster

Gotta agree with Rob here. I watch the next episode as soon as I can every Friday and then maybe rewatch it. It's less of a plot hook and more of an emotional one imo

Eduardoff

luke I totally agree with you, I've been watching anime for over 15 years and nothing I've seen before feels like Frieren... it's like you say, a unique feeling.

Lareolan

Let alone combination genres, like cute-girls-doing-cute-things while playing sports in preparation for major world-ending confrontation (like Battle Athletes Victory or Stellvia of the Universe)

Lareolan

Anime switching up openings/endings around the middle of the season is actually very normal. It used to be the default when a standard anime season was 24-26 episodes, every anime would get a new OP/ED at episode 13 or 14 (It was a rare show that didn't do that, actually). It's just that the modern shorter 12 episode seasons are too short to switch up.

Orkidaisy

For me, Natsume's Book of Friends feels similar to Frieren. It has the same melancholy and introspective atmosphere, warm and complex characters and storylines that are relatable and emotional. Amazing series, btw. I doubt it'll ever be popular enough in your channel for you to watch it, which is a shame, but that's just how it is for these shows where "nothing happens".

L.C.

Yeah once you hit the 200 anime mark you can call yourself an anime veteran but you haven't seen shit with just 30

L.C.

Man why do you ask the most random things? You think frieren made it snow and you think frieren made the dwarf dream about his wife and on and on? You even got a super weird and random type of question from the Kraft character about him being a hero multiple times and the demon king respawning. It doesn't hurt to question things but you question things in an entirely different universe of thinking.

Stefan

Old man warrior sensei, even him made a hard time for Stark

Stefan

Za Hando! Be afraid of Stark! Goatee come back with gorilla! Don’t let Frieren make soup😂
