well, about the encounters with Emilia at the tomb, you already mentioned every hint the scenes gave you, which are: -Emilia talking totally different than normal -especially Emilia saying she loves Subaru without any hesitation (remember, she was ALWAYS super-embarrased when it came to her feelings towards Subaru) -the purple-black-ish glow in here eyes, which even the anime seems to put intense focus on there´s only two persons in the anime that say that they love Subaru. one is Rem. the other one.......... Also: don´t forget that Subaru just came from a restart in this timeline. This time though, he didn´t meet up with Echidna. This doesn´t mean that his restart-point changed, but rather: since his conciousness was NOT in Echidna's "realm" this time, he basically regained conciousness earlier than before (the one time where he talked to Echidna). This basically means, in the previous timeline he regained conciousness AFTER what happened after his respawn (because he was busy with his talk to echidna), while this time he regained conciousness immediately. He now witnesses what happened during his talk with Echidna.

Yes, what Beatrice meant by "make me the 1st" is exactly as you think. To be "that person" Subaru would have to make Beatrice the first one for him. About Emilia: the Emilia we saw in this episode was just completely broken. Subaru left her, Puck is nowhere to be found, she keeps failing the trial that is also destroying her mentally and now that's snowing everyone blames her... To understand her behavior when Subaru entered just think about how Subaru was in episode 18 when he wanted to run away with Rem, just multiplied. She gave up, she broke. That is also one more horrible and disturbing detail that's easy to miss about this episode you can't understand now, I'll bring that up again when the time is right. Anyway! Merry Christmas Luke! Thanks for all the good work 🎄🎊

It's nice to see you catch that Emilia is just crazy in this episode, as it is very easy to just brush it off as the witch possessing her in some way, but the things that she says shows that it is indeed still her. In first season we saw the states of absolutely broken Subaru with his unresponsive and incoherent condition that later evolved into crazy murderousness. This is Emilia's version of that when she's completely isolated and has to go through the trial, re-experiencing whatever her traumatic past was that she cannot overcome, over and over again. Once she's past her breaking point, she just devolves into being completely dependent, childlike, and delusional. We saw a little bit of it when she was drunk in Memory Snow, though obviously to a much, much lesser degree.

This entire season is like "and then it gets worse". Subaru now has to, in a few days and the timing can change so it's never 100% - complete the trials either by himself or get Emilia to do it - get the villagers to side with Emilia - stop Roswaal - keep Emilia from going crazy - keep Garf from attacking him - somehow get to the mansion in the same time period and save the maids + Betty and also defeat Elsa and Meili - stop the great rabbit

Roswaal doesn't completely understand Subaru's Return by Death. Based on his dialogue with Subaru, he knows that Subaru had the lower to redo everything by he doesn't know how he does it. That's why he didn't kill him, he thinks Subaru has some sort of power that allows him to go back and redo everything but he doesn't know that he needs to die first.

There's actually more clues, but they dont translate easily. The biggest differing thing is that Satella says "I love you" as "Aishiteru" as if Subaru is her husband. The "I love you" in this episode was "daisuki". Additionally Roswaal laid it out pretty well - he was purposefully isolating Emilia. Make no mistake, this was not Satella. It was Emilia, mentally broken under the stress of doing the trials over and over and over and repeatedly failing, thinking she'd been abandoned by Subaru and everyone around her.

Roswaal knew that Subaru was able to time loop but not how it was triggered so he tried to use pain until he manually looped not knowing death was the trigger.

Luke... but this is Re:Zero. For every peak, there is a valley. For every answer, there is a question. Been explained by others here, but Emilia underwent the trial over and over and over waiting for Subaru to come "rescue" her. Hence, the way she was phrasing things. "I knew that if I just tried my best, you would come..." Beatrice's comments are similar in that she is waiting for "that person," to come and save ker/end her contract. Roswall has already given you all the clues you need to figure out what his dearest wish is, particularly when he was speaking about the Sanctuary. As for why Garfiel got so pissed when Subaru was explaining what Emilia said to him, it's rather simple: Snow is falling, she keeps failing, he's turned against her. Hearing that she "loves" Subaru is ridiculous to him! The Sancturary is going to hell, the one person who should be saving it isn't, and now the half-witch is whispering love sonnets into Subaru's ear? He was furious, just not at Subaru. I can't say for certain, but I think he was about to transform and run into the Sanctuary to open a can of whoop-ass on Emilia. You'll get some more answers regarding Elsa towards the end, but the next couple of episodes really change a lot of the dynamic and offer some insights as to why the witches operate the way they do. Simple answer: They're crazy! But, as you have probably guess, crazy is a very subjective term and one person's insanity is another person's "dearest wish."

The one that has the contract with the country Lugnica - which appears to be country where most of the series takes place. I don't know why. I don't know what he expects to happen afterwards. It might not be his dearest wish - but, from the way he sounded when he said that to Ram, it sure seems like it.

intresting, i drew the conclusion based on the difference of her talking that i didnt even notice her saying "daisuki". So i even fell into the same trap, thinking it is actually Satella, but yeah, the "daisuki" makes so much sense with it actually being Emilia, not Satella. Especially the "shadow" in her eyes really make it fell like implied control from Satella. Maybe this is still the case, that she is influenced by Satella. But yeah, in this scene it makes sense that it´s actually Emilia in a mentally broken state. Somehow i refuse to just "brush off" the black-purple-ish glow in her eyes just as "indicator of her mentally broken state", since it has always been a visual indicator of "witch power" (the shadows when Satella prevents him from talking about return by death, the unseen hand, and the visual appearance of Satella in the previous Episode)

You seem to be implying that Satella is possessing Emilia again, but that isn't the case here. The reason for Satella possessing her earlier was Subaru talking about Return by Death in a place she couldn't reach, but he never mentioned it in this loop. Roswaal explains the reason for Emilia's behavior in this episode; She's been completely isolated and left alone to attempt the trials that show her something traumatic from her past over and over, without being able to clear them, which simply led to her mind being broken and her becoming obsessed with the one person she can remember to ever have told her that they love her, and would do anything for her: Subaru.

Nah, i didn´t necessarily mean possession in my reply. That's why i specifically chose the word "influenced" there. For my first comment: yes, i assumed that she was possessed by Satella, but i currently think that i stand corrected on my assumption. Still, the visuals on Emilia (as i mentioned) at least indicate the involvement of a witch (and of those, only Satella makes sense to me), since the show deliberately chooses these visuals in context of witches (i´m not sure about the other ones, but at least Satella)

While Roswaal does know that Subaru can restart, he is not aware that he needs to die for that to happen. That's why he only beats Subaru up, instead of outright killing him.

Not a spoiler, but a bit of clarification on why Roswaal was beating Subaru. He doesn't know how Subaru's ability works, just that he has it. He states at the start of that scene "Since you don't understand, so allow me to explain it to you like I do." After beating him for awhile he says "Even after all of this, you have no mind to start over?" He was basically trying to force Subaru to use his ability, because he knew what was coming. He didn't just kill him, because like he said, "Putting the cart before the ground dragon". Which just means, being too presumptuous. Don't know if you will read this, but I see this scene, and that particular exchange confuse a lot of people.

Yes. Rosswall did everything to push Emilia to the brink. The trial is very punishing for her, as we can see by her reaction in the past episodes, the constant failure coupled with the snow that seems to be her fault make everyone distance themselves from her, and people start blaming her. she then tosses herself at the trial time after time until her mind just snaps and she ends just getting twisted into Subaru, the only person who no matter what she did always trusts and shower her with love

yes after challenging and failing the trial repeatedly for over 24 hours straight her mind has been worn away, at the same time no one around her no trusts or supports her in the slightest other than Subaru, so she ended up becoming extremely dependent on him and was fully emotionally isolated when he left

When Betty says "make me your 1st", she says "ichiban" meaning "1st place". As Subaru is always half jokingly saying Emilia and Rem are the 1st and 2nd place in his heart, Betty wants to be someone's 1st place in their heart. Many people seem to understand it as in taking ones virginity, but that'd be "hajimete", meaning "1st one/beginning". Tappei is not that degenerate.

Visuals wise, you could argue the closeup on the eyes are being shown to us through Subaru's perspective, meaning that the shadow visuals aren't literally there but are more of a representation of what Subaru is subjectively seeing or feeling at the moment. The LN's would probably prove or disprove that theory, but I haven't read them.

This was definitely one of the most depressing endings to a loop so far (which is ironic because Subaru even stated this was the best start he's had so far). A couple of scenes from the web/light novel were omitted that I thought were memorable: 1. In the web novel, Subaru is actually left for dead in the mansion by Elsa after killing Betty. In her place (when Subaru comes too), is about a dozen wads of gigantic "meat" balls stown about the village. It's one of the creepiest scenes in Arc 4 and it got cut. 2. In the web novel, Subaru actually makes use of the Ryuzu clones as backup when Roswall kills Ram and Garfiel. They all literally burst in SWAT style and surround Roswaal. This doesn't actually lead to a fight though as Subaru surmises Roswaal could make short work of the clones (but it's still pretty cool). 3. After Roswaal gets eaten, the novel actually follows Subaru as he desparately runs back to Emilia at the graveyard. All the while, he has order the remaining Ryuzu clones to sacrifice themselves to the rabbits to protect him. He even gets to see the fate of the villagers, who have set fire to the church in order to fend off the rabbits, which doesn't seem to faze them as they continue to throw themselves into the fire for their meal. You it's a new level of sadness when even the man-eating monsters are killing themselves :(

Tha final line from Roswaal, that this would be the end for him, but that "another him" would eventually get what he wants, is so mindblowing, because it raises SO MANY QUESTIONS, and is the focal point of one of the theories begind Subaru's ability 😁

My theory is that Emilia is taking these trials because Roswaal wants Echidna to possess her body. They talked about how this entire Sanctuary is set up to create the perfect vessel for Echidna's soul to reside in, this area is ruled by Roswaal, he's housing Betty who serves Echidna, and they both have books with knowledge of the future. We've also seen what appears to be Satella possessing Emilia, so we know she's capable of holding a Witch's soul. So I'm assuming the entire goal is to break Emilia, have her complete the trials, and once a part of the witch is inside Emilia, Echidna takes over and is reborn. Though if Emilia has to become an apostle to be possessed, that does raise the question of how Satella is possessing her. The most obvious answer would be they're blood related, so a part of Satella is technically already inside Emilia. That could also explain why Satella has Subaru helping Emilia so much too. She wants Subaru to be obsessed with Emilia, so she can then take over Emilia's body and have Subaru be as obsessed with her as she is with him.

Your conviction to make videos even for in Christmas or when you’re away is honestly a really nice thing to see. Now I could easily go weeks without any of these videos because of how much I have to watch but I’m so glad I’m just able to tune in and see you experience stuff, even when you’re convinced of something dumb like that isekai ranking or the fact that you’ll probably take ages before being able to watch some of the really good shows that most viewers won’t watch for various reasons.

For example, one show that I have on par with re:zero and Gintama at my number 3 favorite show is called ‘march comes in like a lion’. There may be shows that have much funnier moments or a more complicated story, but there isn’t an anime that sucks you in quite like this. Not only does it do that, the author is one of the wisest authors I’ve ever seen and every episode holds a different lesson in it. This counts for both series adapted from her manga. Second favorite author besides the creator of Gintama that man is a creative genius and should be studied for generations. And the fact that she’s above the creator of re:zero is purely because of how much of a sadistic prick that guy is I can imagine him grinning every time he sees someone’s reaction to the beginning of season 2, or the bunnies scene which is apparently even worse in the novels cause of how detailed Tappei (author) writes his stories

One important thing that was cut from the anime but was part of the original light novel was how Subaru managed to get to emilia at the end and seemingly escaped the rabbits He summoned the ryuzu clones sinse he had control of them all now, and used them to explode the rabbits and be a distraction since theyre mana and the rabbits are attracted to mana, they go for the clones more than subaru, though subaru was still bitten all over and bled out once he got to emilia anyway. its not a huge deal but the anime doesnt explain how he got there at all
