The black serpent was that slime looking thing in the movie. I think it was Puck who refers to it then as the black serpent. So yeah, at this point you've seen all three of the beasts.

my theory is the witch is indeed emilia but she becomes the witch at the end of the show but ends up loving subaru (since it's the end of the show) so she travels back in time with her new power eats all the witches (feels no remorse because the witches are bad) and gets subaru to this world in an attempt to be with him but simply is unable to btw I'm anime only

Ok guys tell me if this is a spoiler and I'll take it down. So a lot of peoples theories when the witch of envy appeared in sanctuary is because Subaru revealed to Echidna that he can return by death but instead of the usual "heart grab" she materialises herself to where Subaru is due to having told someone about the connection between Satella and Subaru. There are obvious counter arguments about this, being of which Echidna already knowing about the connection, but this is the theory I have come to stand by.

So this touches a bit on spoilers but not really. The reason why the witch of envy appeared on the Sanctuary is because she could still hear Subaru yell about his ability to return by death. But she couldn't get past the barrier because of certain protections in place which we get an explanation later. So she took Emilia body to punish Subaru. It's the most accepted theory and ends up making sense with all the stuff that happens in the loops

Subaru telling Echidna about Return by death (in a place Envy can't reach) is the explicit reason that The Witch of Envy manifests here in all the novels. It's not supposed to be a secret, its just that is left ambiguous enough in the anime that some anime-onlys get confused. In that specific circumstance, I don't consider it a spoiler because the anime is trying to adapt the novels as perfectly as possible.

Well to answer your question about Regulus, the white haired guy. It'is a bit of a spoiler but i you want to know... *SPOILER* If i remember correctly Tappei confirmed at one point, if every sin archbishop and every witch except Satella would battle in a brawl, Regulus would be the only survivor. Unless they somehow find out about his weakness (which is very unlikley in such a situation). He is one of the strongest characters in that universe. But this is just from a point of raw power. Other archbishops and witches can be more dangerous because of their abilities. Also funfact, the Tesla fortress Garfiel talks about in episode 8, was destroyed by Regulus alone.

I am kinda anime only. My theory is that we saw witch of envy heading towards the Mansion, possibly to kill Rem and Petra. In earlier episode witch kills Emilia once Subaru tells her about return by death. So I think what is happening is Witch for some reason does not want to kill Subaru, the Witch has never killed Subaru so far in the show. Instead she kills people close to him so he is forced to reset.

We have a lot to talk about in this episode, lets go! 1) Let me clarify something about the Witches and the Sin Archbishops, it will surely help you visualize things in a clearer way. What defines a Witch or a Sin Archbishop is the presence of Sin Witch Factor. There is only 1 Sin Witch Factor for each sin, this means that you cannot have both Witch and Archbishop at the same time for the same sin. The Archbishops are just those who inherited said Witch Factor. That being said, lets review every sin: SLOTH -> Witch of Sloth is currently unknown, but we've met Betelgeuse, the Sin Archbishop of Sloth. This means that the Witch is dead. After Betelgeuse died, the Sloth Witch Factor was inherited by Subaru, this is mentioned by Echidna in Episode 3. Therefore, Subaru is the actual Sin Archbishop of Sloth. PRIDE -> Witch of Pride is Typhon, the kid you met this episode. She is also dead and there is no Archbishop of Pride, as mentioned by Betelgeuse several times in Season 1. This means that the wherebouts of the Pride Witch Factor is currently UNKNOWN. ENVY -> Satella is the Witch of Envy, she is still alive. Therefore she still possesses her Witch Factor and this means that there is no Sin Archbishop of Envy. GREED -> Echidna is the Witch of Greed, she is dead, her Witch Factor is now with Regulus Corneas, the guy in white clothes that attacked Rem and Crusch. That makes him the Sin Archbishop of Greed. GLUTTONY -> Daphne is the Witch of Gluttony, she is dead and her Witch Factor is now with Lye Batenkaitos, the one who ate Rem's memories and current Sin Archbishop of Gluttony. LUST -> Unknown who the Witch was and we also don't know who has the Lust Witchfactor right now. WRATH -> Minerva was the Witch of Wrath, she is dead, therefore someone has the Wrath Witch Factor. Who that is remains Unknown. 2) The 3 Mabeasts, you've now met all of them. The Black Serpent was featured in the Frozen Bonds OVA. While it wasn't her full body, it was still a small part of her. 3) Remember when Subaru was telling Echidna about Return by Death? If you rewatch it now, you will notice the camera switches to a "black realm" for a few seconds and we see a hand trying to reach Subaru. The common theory is that that was Satella trying to reach Subaru, since he was breaking the rules, but she couldn't reach him, since he was inside Echidna's Domain. So, what does Satella do, instead? Possesses Emilia, perhaps? Its a possibility, tho not confirmed, is just a theory and I personally think so. Thats why Emilia is missing and Satella suddenly shows up. After all, Betelgeuse did say that Emilia was being tested to become a vessel for the Witch of Envy, did he not say that...? That may be what happened. 4) About her heading towards Roswaal's Mansion... she is envy, perhaps she feels envious of the feelings Subaru has for Rem/Petra and wants to erase them, so she is all thats left for Subaru? That would allign with the concept of Envy!

I want to defend Subaru on touching Typhoon when he was told not to. Long story short, on the LNs he met, Typhoon, gets healed by Minerva, talks to Echidna again and THEN he gets warned to not touch/make eye contact w/Daphne. In the anime they just cut that middle part which does make Subaru look not great lol.

Petelgeuse was the Archbishop of Sloth. Lye is the Archbishop of Gluttony. Regulus is the Archishop of Greed. As far as the anime goes, we know the seat of Pride is vacant (as mentioned in season 1) and that Satella still owns the Witch Factor of Envy (she's sealed, but alive), so there can't be an Archbishop of Envy until her Witch Factor is transfered to someone else. So only the Archbishops of Wrath and Lust are yet to be revealed, unless things change.

From what i remember it was the fact, that no one was near Emilia when she woke up. So she overcame with despair and kinda got possesed by Satella. Thats also the reason for the ending of episode 10 or 11.

Garfiel saved him because in his point of view the smell of the witch isn't from Subaru, it's from witch. In the first loop, when Subaru didn't have the smell they were cool, only after the smell got strong he got murderous.

It doesn't really matter, it's all subjective cause if say Regulus is supposed to be the strongest, but he fights another character that's the strongest they're evenly matched. But if Lye is supposed to be strong but not the strongest and he fights Otto then obviously Lye is gonna have an easier time than Regulus. Regulus being super strong doesn't mean it has to matter at all if he can just get oneshot by someone even stronger and Lye being not so strong doesn't matter at all if he can kill off half the cast before someone stops him. I guess what I just wanna say is power scaling is completely pointless. It's fun, but it's irrelevant to the story.

It's also the fact of the scent. Each time he dies and comes back to a checkpoint, it grows in strength and then slowly fades (not sure how long it takes to fade though). He may always have a small bit of the smell, or maybe it goes to almost 0 after long enough. But it gets stronger each time he resets to the same place, and also gets stronger when he "tries" to tell someone about his power. His mansion loops are a good show of this, as Ram/Rem treat him differently each time because of the growing scent.

I kinda love how Garfiel is an interesting mirror to Subaru, because if someone like Emilia was witnessing multiple loops she would think Subaru is wildly impulsive and flies in different directions each loop like a madman. Garfiel pivoting so hard in each loop is basically what Subaru would look like to an outside observer and iirc his eccentric behavior is a huge elephant in the room among the people in the mansion. Even Roswaal commented in multiple loops that Subaru acts in wildly unhinged ways even though nobody seems to notice how WEIRD Roswaal talks; Garfiel being a foil for Subaru and mirroring him at the same time is one of the reasons Re:Zero gets better and better every time to rewatch it

My theory at the moment is all the witches have BPD to such extreme levels that they wrecked the world, and "the duality of man" feels somewhat appropriate when talking about the 7 deadly sins. I'm anime-only so I don't know if it gets covered later, but one of the big questions that lingered in my mind after Echidna described the witches in ep3 was "are all the witches bipolar?"

My theory is Subaru will have to eventually have a conversation with Satella and convince her that using Emilia as a vessel is misguided, he will have to confront her worst impulses and use all the pain of his journey as evidence of what he learned, and I think it will come down to her accepting her fate or rejecting fate along with his remarks or rejecting fate and using his remarks to find a new path. Overcoming the flaw of envy will also be a challenge for Satella, if I had to guess

Episode 11 end was a completely separate cause. Emilia became intensely mentally unstable due to repeatedly challenging the trial and failing with 0 emotional support. No Satella needed there

My belief is that when Subaru tells someone his ability the witch of Envy slightly reaches out to stop it. But when he said it in the dream world she couldn't reach him. But imagine she was still reaching out to him to stop him in the physical world, then he goes and says it about 20 times, this making her come out more and more, and that's why the whole place was covered by the witch of Envy, imo

Remember he was lazy the first time, then incredibly overactive the second time, and creepily doing anything to try and get them to like him so they won't kill him again. They thought he was a spy that was really bad at hiding he was a spy. Because who else would be so desperate to get into Roswaal's house? they accepted him the third time not because he "smelled less" but because they saw him cry like a lost child. He's not a spy, he's a helpless fool, guess we can trust him. Watch the show a second time when you're not trying to solve mysteries of the universe. They all act rationally like real people.

I think a little bit differently. I think when Subaru tells about his ability fully, she tries to possess Emilia's body that instant. We've already seen what happen first time. Emilia wasn't able to withstand Witch and died. It was indirectly proven by Betelgeuse when he said "She wasn't able to withstand The Ordeal". Second time though as we see right now Witch achieved her goal in possessing Emilia. Perhaps something changed and Emilia became more suitable as a vessel for Witch

Garfiel situation is the same as Rem when Subaru first met her. They both were initially suspicious about him and that suspicion either increased or decreased in accordance to his actions (and Witch's Scent too) and they both acted depending on how they perceived him. Be it as a threat or as an ally

Black Serpent was actually briefly mentioned in Movie. We've seen that black slime that was actually Black Serpent's Venom. So I think you could imagine how dangerous that snake is considering what just his venom could do 😅

If you think about it, Garfiel's actions make perfect sense. In the first timeline he trusted Subaru and wanted to work with him. Then after the trial he got more and more suspicious of Subaru because each death made the Witch's scent on Subaru stronger and stronger. In this timeline though the Witch of Envy herself is there so her scent is everywhere. On top of that, Garfiel would have seen how close she was to him, so it'd make total sense for him to reek of the Witch of Envy. So Garfiel in this timeline still trusts Subaru, since the thing that made him suspicious of Subaru is no longer suspicious.

And your remarks are untrue though, Subaru wasn't lazy during his first loop at the mansion, he worked super hard and Roswaal even told Ram to curb her sister's impulses, the only reason they attacked him during the "lazy loop" was because Rem died and Subaru was clearly withholding information when confronted about it. The only other "lazy" loop would've been when he asked to live as a guest and then he still studied, got lessons from Ram, and even departed on good terms but Rem went and explicitly said she was attacking him because of the witches scent. More than one factor was involved. It's not really that complicated, so there's no reason to be so rude to someone and say something like "watch it when you're not trying to solve the mysteries of the universe". jeez dude, it ain't that serious lol you don't gotta roast anybody 😅

I mean Echidna told you the power of the witch like 5 episodes ago, what we know : Typhon Witch of Pride, if she touch you and you're a sinner (or a bad guy) you suffer. That's why Subaru ddn't suffer when she rip his arm off, cause he is not a sinner, but see himself as a bad guy. Minerva Witch of wrath : She heal people when she hit them. Daphnee Witch of gluttony : We don't know a lot, but remember the first episode we saw the guy with the gluttony factor and he eat Rem name etc. So we can say she do the same. And the other we don't see them for the moment ;).

It was established in the third teaparty, that most of the witches don't trust each other, so there is no way Echidna and especially Sekmeth would work together. First she can't keep him busy if due to a mix of 'Lions Heart' and 'Stillness of an Objects Time' her attacks literally have no effect on him. Second as soon as he figures out that Sekhmet is the strongest witch, he would focus her first. Third, even if they figure out his weakness, it is still possible that they wont be able destroy the source of 'Lions Heart', since he's hiding it somwhere out of their reach. Remember, he only kept it undefended cause he didn't belive that Subaru and Emilia would figure out his weakness and find a solution to deal with it, due to their good-willed nature. In a brawl situation, there is no way he wouldn't do his most to defend or hide it. *SPOILER* Also he can make a new 'Lions Heart' bearer in a whimp. He just says Sekmeth, your my wife now and done. Since all he has to do is consider that person as his wife.

The witches in Dream Castle are not the same that Satela killed. They all have their authorities intact. Satela personally killed all of them and took their authorities, but the witches in the Dream Castle all died through other means (except Minerva possibly). Also, there are 2 different Echidnas confirmed to exist in the Subaru timeline. Satela messed up the entire timeline for some reason.

Both are revealed in the light novels. Witch factors, or Authorities, can exist in multiple people at the same time you just don't get the benefits. Pride got himself killed before Subaru appeared and likely did not leave any1 his authority and the thing that killed Pride likely acquired the Authority same way Subaru acquired Sloth. Subaru has been collecting Authorities without meaning too, but the dream castle witches still retain their own Authorities. Also, authorities manifest differently between people for some reason.

I always thought that the witch of envy showing up was because she was angry that Subaru told someone about return by death, someone she cant kill to punish him because their already dead. Or maybe just shes mad that he told Echidna specifically.

It's worth noting that the witch of envy was saying "I love you" as Aishiteru instead of Daisuke. Aishiteru is used as a much more deep meaning to love and represents a love of a soul forever, like a love reserved for a husband and wife

This episode had so many hints thrown around that it's insane watched this so many times again when it first aired. Still has some future reference hints that isn't answered (I have not read novels). I find it funny how Luke notices a lot of things and then when things are right in his face he just doesn't see it or understand at all :D

Nah, I thought it was an interesting observation, and I mean it wouldn't be out of Echidna's character to want to have the lion's share of the shade from the parasol. Like Luke said, it could be an interesting little easter egg, which isn't all that unreasonable to think or for the animators to add in.

Spoiler to answer James's Question She was able to enter the castle of dreams in the third party because Sekhmet had abandoned her guard duty, however her power was still greatly weakened. The reason the witches didn't attack though was because it was Satella instead of the Witch who entered.

Spoiler in reply to Regulus We know that the unseen hands can affect Regulus, they will ordinarily not do damage to him, but grabbing him, throwing him about, and blocking his attacks are no problem at all. Petelguese accomplished all of that against Regulus and got him into an extended stalemate. Regulus attempting to make Sehkmet his wife would be extremely unwise and the most surefire way imaginable for him to lose the fight, She is the most powerful master of the technique and would easily be able to do the same thing Subaru does in arc 5 to Regulus. I do agree that the witch's would have problems working together as they are not aligned in thought, but they are somewhat more united than the Sin Arcbishops.

I would say that the powerscaling between Archbishops is a bit wrong indeed. While "Sloth < Gluttony < Greed" is true in individual power, it is not that easy to quantify for real. Greed has an absurd power, but that doesn't mean he would have an easy time dealing with a cautious Gluttony, and both Gluttony and Greed lacks the followers that Sloth had - which required a force similar to the one who brought down the White Whale to deal with.. But yeah, in a deathmatch in a confined space then Greed would come out on top no diff 100/100. Among the 6 Witches of Sin, that Envy consumed, there is a similar power scaling were one clearly has the most power.
