This is pure expeculation from me, but puck is a "cat". If we assume it to be, let's say, a TIGER, it fits into the Four Celestial Deities from the Chinese folklore: - Byakko, the White Tiger of the West - Gembu, the Black Turtle of the North (with or without the snake on its back) - Seiryuu, the Blue Dragon of the East (sometimes represented as a Serpent) - Suzaku, the Red Bird of the South (usualy depicted or called as a Phoenix) You will see that four animals (or something equivalent for each) a LOT in anime/manga revolving around phantasy worlds. Even Shield Hero has mentions of those (it was a major plot on Season 2 and seens to also be on Season 3) Hence, the Four Great Contaminants, maybe? 😅 Edit: I edited the post for more clarity

Yeah - I don't recall any explanation as to why it's such a problem - only that it will be late and scheduled behind other catch-ups. The problem is that if left too long then the film won't make sense. You need to recall a number of key plot points in order to understand what the heck is going on. If he doesn't want to react to it or doesn't have time, then that's fine. But to keep saying he'll get round to it and then do other film length reactions first seems odd.

Really strange how people jump on to "defend" Luke and give no answer to the question. Originally (on the 11th) , he said it would take a week on a Parasyte video. Then (on the 16th) he said it would take a couple of weeks on a Frieren video. He might have said something else on twitch. About the mabeasts: In other translations, they are also referred to as "Witch Fiends". Unfortunately, that´s all i can tell you at this moment, since i don´t remember if it gets further clarified later on in the anime (i believe so?!? maybe i´m wrong tho). I believe the name "mabeast" means more like "magical beast", but their origin at this moment is unknown to the viewer.

If I was to guess I want to say the legendary beast part is kind of accurate because of the 魔 kanji, which is also used in 魔法 (mahou - まほう) to say magic/witchcraft (魔女 means witch for example). Since magic is supposedly stuff of legend etc etc. I came to the conclusion that it was accurate enough

Considering that puck is mentioned to be a greater spirit of fire in the anime as ice in re zero is technically fire/ temperature magic, that doesn't really fit into the whole white tiger thing. Additionally puck is known as a great spirit of fire because he beat the horse spirit in this film. You simply become on by beating another one etc. There's mentions of the other 3 in the L/N but i will avoid spoilers

Theres a video that perfectly explains magic in rezero since it isnt explicitly stated. I suggest you watch it. But in short, the elements dont work as you think. Think of it more like.. water is the breath of life. Fire is the control of temperature. Wind and earth are self expanatory. Basically, emilia is a fire and spirits arts mage. She is adept at "fire" magic. But specilizes in freezing rather than burning. But take it with a grain of salt cuz is been a while since ive checked up on this information. So im not sure if im right or my memory of it has gotten hazy. Couple things to note especially from s1. Why does puck know common "our world" phrases such as "shaved ice?" And various references? Just a curiosity. ❄️

Yes you remember correctly, Puck is in fact the great spirit of fire as mentioned during the royal selection. Shaved Ice I think isn't such a big deal, I suppose its possible to make a version of shaved ice in the re zero world. Although something does happen later on so I'm flagging the rest of this as S2 spoiler * * * * * * S2 spoiler+theory below * * * * * * Roswaal in S2 says something in English in episode 11 during the scene with Subaru, and highly emphasized in Roswaal's exaggerated tone, even though this word can easily be said in Japanese. I believe it is the first instance where that has happened, so where did Roswaal learn English?

Glad you decided to go ahead and watch this first. It does a lot to help establish Puck and Emilia's relationship. My only complaint about it is I always felt it went way too overboard with the antagonists. The great ape, the black serpent, the fire spirit, the slavers and about two seconds of a mabeast. Some of them are more important to the story at large than others and I really feel like it could have felt less convoluted if it just cut out one or two of the less important ones.

Yes, this is right. The exact phrase used by Melakuera is 四大異物 終焉の獣 Here, 四大 refers to the 4 elements - reflected by the four great spirits (Melakuera unsurprisingly being 'fire'). 異物 means something 'outside', 'foriegn' or 'different' - so something different to the four great spirits (so 'contaminant' is a close match). Finally, 終焉の獣 translates here as 'Beast of the End' (Puck's previous name). So, basically, Melakuera is just identifying who Puck is - something different to the four great spirits. "Four great spirits - different. Beast of the End".

For the longest time I had a theory that Puck is Subaru. That somehow in the future to save her he became a spirit, got sent back to the past to protect and guide her, and because of how involved with her he was, he lost the memories of himself and just became Puck. Would explain why they're so similar, and would sort of explain him being brought to this world, but in a weird time loop sort of way. The Witch would have brought Subaru to this world because a future version of herself had already done so / sent him back to her as Puck, so she'd have no reason not to pick Subaru when her time to do so came up in the timeline. No clue how he'd turn into a greater spirit / giant cat monster though, so probably way off base.

Puck actually can and always does use fire magic. Fire magic in Re:Zero is actually more like tempurature magic, so ice magic is a type of fire magic.

It should be noted that both Fire and Water users can use Ice Magic although in different ways. It seems like Fire is more temperature control while water is the flowing of mana. (We know this as Rem is a water magic user… for that matter Emilia technically is too, although she doesn’t know all about her capabilities yet. To be clear about that - Healing Magic is classified as Water Magic and anyone capable of using various elemental types is seen as uniquely special like Roswall or has ways they can do that, like Julius having contracts with multiple spirits that are various elements.)

So there is a lot here - We learned about the venom of the Black Serpent, and its extreme power. We learned that Emilia has powers far beyond what she has from her contract with Puck, but doesn’t really know how to control it. We learned this is the forest that she came from and some details about it, like it’s always winter there… This is when Puck and Emilia first made the contract, and others are not supposed to interfere when making a contract… Also importantly - Emilia’s memories of the past are very scattered and don’t really make any sense to her mind to a point that she can’t really remember or understand her memories from before she was frozen. There is some more stuff in here as well that hidden, to give more context to S2 that I don’t want to fully explain until we get to it. Although I will say that I believe we have met another one of the “contaminants” in one of the IF Stories, but the other 2 are complete question marks… (For those who have read the Sloth IF, I think Tia might be one… but it wasn’t fully confirmed either… Also rn this isn’t a spoiler as Tia seems to only have been made for that IF story, but it’s a fairly light spoiler for the Sloth IF.)
